I wish they would drop the Green River cover. The jam is fine but the arrangement just seems vanilla compared to their other covers.

Really the only thing they do I don’t like is Lead The Way. I enjoy the green river cover.

That No Rain from the other night was amazing. Ricks guitar playing over that and Wysteria was beautiful.

Watching last nights show at some point today

I developed a little soft spot for Lead The Way after learning it was about Rick’s dog dying.

14 and 18 are the two Halloween shows I’ve attended. 96 is by far my favorite 1.0 musical costume. Can’t fucking wait. Going to be a good night. Got one last hit I’ve been saving for the right occasion. This is probably going to be it.

I’ve never been fortunate to catch Trey with an orchestra, but after COVID if we could get a Trey + strings tour, that’d be pretty cool. I love Ray and Russ and the rest of TAB, but seeing him play What’s The Use and If I Could with strings was the best interpretation of some phish songs that I’ve seen in a while.

I listened to recordings from some of his first orchestral shows, but after seeing that and obtaining a better appreciation of music generally, Trey + orchestra/strings is something I’d travel for. That Lizards was also fantastic.

Favorite Trey show was probably with the Trio at Terminal West. Solo acoustic at the Ryman was awesome too. I’d definitely travel within a reasonable distance for those too.

I missed the first two weeks, but this is actually really enjoyable. Very laid back and chill, but it’s like Trey is hanging out in my apartment. He’s reading the chat stream and joking about folding clothes and cooking and shit.

Now you’ve got me reminiscing. My first Trey show was 4/30/05 late night Jazz Fest. Was the first time anyone from Phish had played together since Coventry. I will never forget eating a little piece of paper leaving the Fair Grounds and being somewhat concerned as the balcony was moving quite a lot during Sneaking Sally

This isn't really "jamband" music, but it's really fucking good music and I needed somewhere to grieve. And this thread is my safe space on TMB.

Jerry Jeff Walker died this past Saturday, and it's hit me harder than any musician death in recent memory. Houser, Jerry, Dr. John, Greg Allman, and Richie Hayward. were all hard on me, but this one may be the roughest. His music was basically the soundtrack to my childhood. All of my favorite memories with my Dad tended to have his music playing in the background.

If you're not familiar with him, check him out (live tracks only). He's the original outlaw country musician, but his music covered a lot of genres. He was also a badass and could party anyone, even his friend, Hunter S. Thompson, under the table.

I've been down a rabbit hole listening to his music and interviews all week. I found these two tracks he recorded a few months ago, with no voice left (surgery and chemo/radiation on a tumor located on his voice box) and knowing he had very little time left. Teared me up. Reminded me of Warren Zevon's last album

His early career is littered with these types of stories:

"One oft-repeated episode at the Castle Creek in Austin saw Walker show up in a bathing suit, vest, cowboy hat and boots after “drinking Brandy Alexanders all day long,” according to Nunn.

“Two, three songs in, some girl hollered out, ‘Get off the stage, you drunk son of a bitch!’ And he said, ‘Fuck you. You ain’t got any beer, you ain’t got any cocaine, you ain’t got any pussy. You ain’t got anything I want,'” says Nunn, with a peal of laughter. After Walker fell over into the drum kit, the rest of the band got up and left him onstage by himself. “He ended up staying up for two or three days after that.”

I also read a story where he got beat up by a bunch of Hell's Angels bikers at a bar in NOLA. While getting his face bashed in, he yelled "I've been beat up by rodeo clowns who packed a harder punch than you pussies!" He later woke up in the hospital.
