King Diamond cover with Brann Dailor on vocals. It's been obvious that this was going to happen as soon as Mastodon started appearing in these covers Brendon Small on guitar
Wake just put out a new EP after dropping one of this year’s best albums in Devouring Ruin. hefty black metal influence this time around. spoiler alert: it’s fucking sick
Saw them the last time they came through Portland. They were playing with some of the worst bands I've ever heard live but Power Trip's set more than made up for it.
honestly i didn't really get it at first. but their main dude died somewhat recently and i've been watching interviews with him. he said something about "single pedal thrash metal" and i was instantly intrigued. and yeah, Power Trip is/was awesome
I remember sitting upstairs... bar was behind me, one row of seats upstairs. So whatever that place is.
hawthorne has upstairs seats but no bar up there. it also smells like mildew and every band that plays there has the same muddy sound issues. i haven't been to bossanova
good lord this band grates on me so damn much, they're like a watered down AC/DC with chipmunk vocals

I’m a Decible subscriber but that list doesn’t have Ulcerate’s Stare Into Death and Be Still which is definitely my favorite album of 2020. I know I’m not alone in that opinion. I’m not sure how you could overlook that release.
as far as my particular metal interests go 2020 was a weak year. cant even name one album that stood out.
i've been working my way through their catalog really everything on these earlier releases rips, but the first riff in this song is an all-timer. i regret not seeing this band live
And Marty Friedman is one of my very favorite guitarists ever. Still looks weird seeing him play a telecaster.
Lots of new releases leaked today, which is good because I need something to do for the next four days.
I think it’s one of the best releases of 2019. Death metal is littered with boring, paint by numbers bands playing similar styles. These guys manage to make that sound fresh and interesting. if you like that, try 1914’s The Blind Leading The Blind. they incorporate some doomy elements and I find them to be similarly good. maybe it’s because the album covers look kinda similar.
2020 has just been weak for me in general, a number of my favorite bands underwhelmed and nothing's really jumped out as an album of the year contender
I think this year has been great for heavy music. Ulcerate In The Company of Serpents Wake (LP and EP) Wayfarer Afsky Omitir Spirit Adrift Enslaved Spectral Lore/Mare Cognitum Xibala Paysage d’Hiver Bell Witch/Aerial Ruin Deftones Svalbard Havukruunu and many more...
Really I discovered them at the beginning of the lockdown and love everything about them rock mixed with metal and you can dance to them I know most of you want down tunes guitars face paint and garbled vocals I respect that but I love em and when this is over I am gonna see em play in Denmark
i would be more interested if they didnt follow that all too common trend in rock music over the last few decades: no, or very few, guitar solos.
AIP have you listened to Spirit Adrift and Haunt? Those are two modern bands playing styles I think you would like.
Good stuff. Knew they would be a hit for you. let me know on Haunt. can also give more recs in this vein if you’d like
