Nope, but he is head GC for Acushnet and had a bunch of new concept clubs he was playing with that are all ruined
lol had a friend start a small fire at Silverleaf (Scottsdale) when he hit a ball out of the desert his iron made a spark from contact with a rock.
And I thought my buddy who threw clubs was bad when he was having a bad round. Setting your bag on fire is on a whole new level.
You guys, if you don’t have it you should think about arccos. I love golfing with it now. I never think about keeping score. Only issue is sometimes it will not track putts correctly so you’ll have to go back and add a putt or subtract a putt here or there.
Old men love to fight at the golf course episode 1,000: had a drunk 60 year old yell at us and then try to start a fight Saturday because we didn't walk far enough around a green being reseeded and he's a member who took offense. Mind you, there's 4 of us who are all 34 and in good shape and he's 5'7 200 with a gut. In all my years on the course I've never had so much as a raised voice from anyone under 50 but boomers are always ready to throw hands, it's so weird
I had one of those guys get mad at me because I (politely) called him out for picking up my ball. I just drove away.
Bryson slaughtering Augusta will probably be the last straw for changing equipment or the ball. You can thank him later for his service.
Changing the ball or equipment for an entire sport because a handful of pros "hit it too far" is so fucking dumb. Also, so what they dial the ball or equipment/materials back....you're still punishing everyone. The short hitters are still going to be playing the same shitty ball and equipment so they'll still have the same disadvantage. Bryson's a douche but it's not because he hits it far.
I can't wear metal spikes, but Bryson does. Why can't their be different equipment standards for professionals?
Or better yet just change the course set up that penalizes the longer hitters if you don't want that. Graduated rough, narrowing fairways closer to the green, etc..
Well then don't. Shit...I don't care. Hit it longer then! Bottom line is it's dumb to make an industry wide change because of the abilities of .000000001% of the golfing population. If someone gets too good at lag putting what in the world would we do then?!?
I don't see what the harm is in you and I being able to play a ProV1 and the pros playing a ball that spins a little bit more. Actually I'll meet you half way. Start with leaving the equipment as is but actually testing that what the players are playing conforms with the god-damned rules as is. Considering that the last time players were tested they failed at an 2002 MLB steroids clip that might be a good place to start
Because professional players are different. There's a reason professional baseball players use wood bats and college and other amateurs don't. Professional golf is about entertainment - your standing Saturday morning round is not.
Bifurcation is inevitable. This idea that golf is a superior sport because a random amateur could technically play in a match (that would never happen) against Tiger Woods on even terms is ridiculous. I get the theory behind it, but it’s not even a realistic possibility in anyone’s wildest dreams.
Unless you have courses where their only purpose is to host PGA events, this won’t work. It’ll ruin the design for amateur play. Team nuke-the-ball-for-pros.
Could set amateur tees to avoid them essentially take them out of play. For 13 at augusta anyone playing it as a true par 5 could lay up to the right.
