Yeah but Leaving ESPN also means losing a good bit of espns talent since they Iirc they usually bar going on competing networks
I know this is more about covid and Disney needing to cut costs badly than ESPN not supporting the show, but this has gotta push Dan pretty close to quitting and moving the show somewhere else. Losing an hour, moving from News to ESPN+, firing Cote...I know their contract is through 2021 but it seems like both sides want out. Interested to see what they say tomorrow. I bet the no show on Friday was when they knew this was coming and Dan said we’re not working and tried to call people to stop it. That’s all the reckless speculation I’ve got.

It sucks for the show and Chris but if someone had to go glad it’s him. Although on air he did bring more to the show than Roy does. Maybe off air Roy is more valuable.

No way it's an ESPN hire. Not sure if they have their own company for lebatard and friends (probably). ESPN also eliminated 200 open headcount so I doubt they would have approved him
Roy hasn’t done anything since King Roy, which was the only thing he’s ever done besides the old school Roy’s Top Ten Lists, which were fantastic. Having said that, he’s a producer and I don’t think Fat Chris was.
Roy’s on air personality is bleh and he’s not great at speaking. He often gets tripped up. Wonder if he’ll have to contribute more after this
Chris was more entertaining than Tony, Roy, or Billy. Sucks. Hope they end up on a different platform sooner rather than later. I'm not about to subscribe to ESPN+ for just their show.
? I like the show...just not enough to pay for ESPN+. Their value to me is whatever the cost of the ESPN networks get paid by Google for my YTTV subscription.
Remember, the shipping container have the vast majority of their duties off air. Dan just likes giving everyone air time. But the reason you sometimes go whole shows without hearing from guys like Chris/Roy/billy Gil is because they are working on cutting up sound for a bit
There's still a decent amount of flooding in Miami so I wouldn't panic just yet, but at this point, it's almost certain that the divorce is inevitable. It's one thing to take away visibility, but to take a shot across the bow and fire the son of Dan's best friend is not going to go over well.
They moved this show to ESPN+ to have Sportscenter on the main channel? Dan and company are definitely on their way out. The energy this morning seems to support that.
I believe he referred to Chris's firing as the biggest insult he's ever suffered professionally. He gone. IMO the biggest loss will be the audio bank of sound he's created over the last 10 years. so much of what makes the show great is the callbacks.
You think he'll be able to take the whole team to wherever he goes next? And would they all go or are some of them loyal to their employment at ESPN?
Really depends who takes them on. If it's independent podcast supported - it CAN work but it would take time to build up that revenue to support a large staff. I think Dan can bankroll it for a bit though. Also not sure who owns all of their equipment, who is paying the Clevelander, etc.
Dan is literally just going down the list of football scores from the weekend. He pretty clearly is ready to leave ESPN.
Everyone that makes the show what it is, is loyal to Dan. They’ve been with him since the show was on local south Florida radio. I’d be shocked if any of them stayed. ESPN paid to build out the current studio. But he could easily do what he did last time and get some small time TV network to build him a new one. Could also offer to write ESPN a check and get them to let him keep all the equipment.
I just tried to use ESPN plus and its not available here. I figured I could get around it with a VPN, but that hasn't worked either. I might have to make a new espn account or something and set my country as the US. Thanks, ESPN!
Dan may be overly emotional and annoying at times but the man takes care of his people and has been great at using his power to give other people opportunities.
