Not to me. I know what you’re saying, but the debut was just heart pounding energy from the first note to the last. Shit still gives me chills after hundreds of listens
Phish will always have a special place for me. I will skip some Phish posts because there is just not much I can say or read about them that I haven’t said or read a multitude of times already, it’s just not fresh at all for me anymore. Taking a break from Phish, and to some extent The Dead, was the best thing I’ve done personally music wise. I always liked bluegrass to some degree but I spent several years really digging into that world and all of it’s derivatives, and ended up learning to play the mandolin. Still love them both but regret letting them dominate 99% of my listening habits for so long. Never gave two shits about another “jam” band aside from catching someone I’ve heard about at a local show, until Goose. I still look forward to phish shows and some multi night runs but planning big runs and sitting around listening to them for hours on end just isn’t in me anymore. I also never thought I would like a new “jam” band but I would pick going to a Goose show over Phish on a competing night 10/10 times at this point. My old self would have no doubt found that ridiculous. I feel old AF when I see their shows but no fucks given. The guy that introduced me to Phish years ago was a “they’re taking over my band” guy after so many Dead fans drifted to Phish when Jerry died. I introduced him to Goose, and we’re now driving the Goose train in our group of show going friends.
I read all post and listen to anything posted that I haven’t listened to before. why blow past links to new or unheard music in a thread with like minded taste. I love GD, Phish and have been fortunate to see phish a handful of times. I followed SCI pretty hard at one point and love moe and probably seen them a dozen or so times. Goose just seems better to me right now. They have great songs, they can all play and they are having so much fun playing. I haven’t seen them in person yet, but I live stream any offerings and have probably listened to every set from late 2018 to present on Nugz. I don’t know, but for me Goose is the only thing I listen to right now. I just can’t get enough. I think the fact that something new came along I could listen too when I needed a distraction in my life has a lot to do it. I needed an escape and Goose was new and gave me that.
Goose can do no wrong DUCKMOUTH In watching the most recent full show on YT, I learned they teased a tune from one of my favorite kids movies, the Prince of Egypt, on their 10/19/20 drive in the other day. Interestingly enough, that song "Deliver Us" stands on its own and the motif is used throughout the movie.
yeah. I wish their road manager coach would list teases when he lost set list. They always have some interesting ones mixed in. Then I forget where I heard it. Be nice if he would expand his set list notes
They include them (in full?) on Bandcamp, that's where I go to see the og notes, though YT and the comments section can usually pull out some of the same info, often with timestamps. Per the wiki, the notes were originally composed by Hans Zimmer. Even cooler know that I know that. Here is an example.
Trey doing a Ghost of the Forest set tonight - Fish on drums and dude is looking homeless Goose is streaming their make up shows from Halloween tonight too
Missed it, but bought the live tix. Hopefully they post it this morning. Heard that Earth or Aliens new song is dope as hell
It’s dumb. I prefer Goose at this point in my life, but wouldn’t say they are better. Music is subjective. treating bands like pro sports rivals is the fucking stupid. When most of the bands love each other and would probably love to sit in.
Also my musical taste change over time. I don’t listen to a lot of Phish, Goose, moe, etc when I’m in the car etc. that’s a lot of Dead, 70s funk, 80s and even rap. However when I’m at home it’s time to veg out or couch your I don’t listen to any of that besides the dead, but I’ll also couch tour the hell out of phish, moe, Goose. That’s the way I do music. Everyone is different though. Hell I listened to Penguin Cafe Orchestra while preparing dinner tonight and that fits no genre I mentioned above or jam bands. I listen to anything from anywhere at least once. If I enjoy I’ll keep diving in. Enjoy what you like.
Phish has their corner of fans guilty of the same thing with the Dead Spoiler but for real... Phish >
[1] Full TAB debut. Began with just Trey with The Rescue Squad Strings and Jeff Tanski on piano with the rest of the band and Jennifer Hartswick, Celisse Henderson, Jo Lampert joining in on vocals later.
Sending positive vibes his way; I've always really enjoyed his work. Listening to his 2018 release right now.
I listened to this last week. Absolutely fantastic (the stuff without Garcia - Jerry was having instrument issues - is good too)
Goose released 11/6 and 11/7 full video for free. Was a make up from the weekend before that got snowed out. Pretty cool of them to do since some folks could before and not the next. Halloween make up night was Donnie Darko theme.
Digging this set of older TAB songs. To this day, Plasma is one of my favorite albums that I can throw on and be in awe of every time. Early 2000’s TAB (especially that Bonnaroo second set opener in 2004/2006 (?)) is so good.
I was mistaken, it was the intro to Night Speaks to a Woman at Bonnaroo in 2002, which led to a 3 song set. It starts a little after 1:26 at the link below. I recall something about molly and Santana inspiring it, but I could be mis-remembering.
