I would hate this the most tbh.

basically just a straight punishment for guys who hit it really long.

Just heard on ESPN that Augusta has gained 500 yards in length in the last 20 years while Tiger proofing. Think about that.....

Seems unfairly punitive to long hitters imo. I don’t have a good solution I just think punishing guys for being better at 1 aspect of the game by changing the equipment to target them doesn't make sense. I also think Bryson is a chode so I'm conflicted

I agree with everyone who says it’s punitive. I don’t think any changes should be done to equipment. Course design is the answer and like the changes to Augusta will have to be a recurring process.

I don’t see the NBA raising rim heights or changing the ball. But they do move the 3pt line.

Most of me simply doesn’t care though. If golfers keep improving then so be it.

Short guys hit it straighter and on the sweet spot more often. Long guys can miss the sweet spot and are not penalized that much. Think prior to the ProV1, at US guys like Lee Jansen and Corey Paving had an advantage. Ernie Els and Tiger were probably hurt because they had the length and precision and the the solid core golf ball brought more long players into play that could hang around.

The short hitters historically were surgeons with wedges and the ProV (or fill in any tour level ball in play now) just don't spin on approaches/chipping like the old balata balls also mitigating the advantage they used to have.

Exactly. There used to be more skill involved in controlling spin. Guys also had to play much lower lofted drivers which were much less forgiving.

Am in a Masters pool with a bunch of people. Rules are you choose 1 player from each tier. 2 best scores per hole and all 4 rounds are included.

I already made my picks but am interested to see who you all would take.

Wow...well you'd either win by a lot or lose by a lot because no one else would have that team. Not a bad strategy for how many people are in the pool.

You both have 1 of the same as me.

The reason I'd love to see some equipment changes is to make current golf courses relevant again. There are some really great country clubs around America that are now irrelevant for solid amateur play. A lot of these Donald Ross courses that are 6,800 yards are simply driver/wedge for your above avg golfer.

There are only a handful of courses that will even be considered for major state am type of tournaments. Most courses less than 7,200 yds are irrelevant, and it's difficult/impossible to add length to some of these courses to make them any longer. The land isn't there.

The "white tee box" is basically used by guys 60+. I'm a fan of calming down the length and making the white tee box relevant again for your avg golfer.

Think I'm rooting for the winner to come out of that group. Obviously a green jacket alters anyone's career, but all of these players are deserving of a level up in their legacy, and I generally like them. Alternatively, if Paul Casey wins it's fine but - whatever.

And to clarify this is the non Cat repeating division

Also Augusta was built to be filmed in April, the light is so much better on TV in the spring. I feel like all I'm just looking at shadows. I'm not complaining though, considering the non-zero chance of imminent lockdown this broadcast will stay on DVR for a long time

Ive been watching on broadcast as opposed to the online coverage in the morning. And watching you can tell that the course looks as great as ever, but the colors don't pop off the TV like they do in the spring. Jmho
