honestly though that makes her pretty exotic by the definition of the word right? because the word’s meaning is changed by someone’s frame of reference? Language is fascinating
I would like an invitation to your next family gathering. I will bring some booze and a recording device, we might make a buck or two my friend
Old bats can be kooky my grandma direct quote: “I’m so glad I don’t have any mixed race grand children” her son, my uncle standing next to her: mom, MY children are mixed race (they’re Cuban)
hosting my first thanksgiving this year. Thinking about framing a picture of joe biden's electoral map and hanging it on my wall.
2 years ago at Christmas my grandma said "I don't know why I never tried crack." Mind you, her idea of getting wild is Baileys in her coffee
Background: since I’m a government employee and thus basically unfireable, my wife and I donated our stimulus check to a few different food banks. My dad was, for some reason miffed by this. My parents are finishing sorting out my grandmothers estate and my mom informed me today that once they’re done they’re going to break off a chunk of it to give to me and my brother. My dad then said if I try to give it away to charity, they’ll just keep it instead. It should shock no one that my dad usually votes republican. I’m pretty sure my mom threatened him in some way to get him to vote D this year.
When my BAC is around .15, I'll spill about my mom's kitchen She is an incredibly open person who wants Trump to die but her kitchen is highly questionable
If she had access, or any clue what crack even looks like, she might have taken a run at it on her 95th
my sister used to date an italian dude from montreal, at Christmas my grandma asked him how was life as an import in Quebec in French she called him « un importé » He was born in st-leonard montreal
sounds like something my maternal grandmother would’ve said - that woman had no filter and it was fucking hilarious
Why would anyone be mad about someone else donating their money to a food bank? Isn't that a 100% unanimously good thing? Why would even an R be mad about that?
Both my parents grew up marginally poor and their parents even more so, so I suspect it comes from the idea of giving money away as a foreign concept? My wife on the other hand grew up for real poor and relied on food banks periodically so since we’re comfortable very much wanted to give our free government money to people who truly needed it instead of padding our savings account.
Father in law had a heart attack 2 weeks ago. They did surgery on him and everything went ok. We went over for a dinner today and he was talking about how definitely learned some lessons from the attack and promptly started boasting over how he is planning to deep fry this years turkey. Her parents are also hardcore Trump lovers, so I think this holiday season is gonna get wild.
Usually exotic means “non-white” in the context WhiskeyDelta mentioned. Morena does have a (to me at least) sultry/mysterious thing going on so I kinda get the word choice.
Hosting Thanksgiving again. If it happens. It's my parents call if they want to come. Wife and I got flu shots yesterday (1st time in a long time for me). Just trying to do everything we can to see them for the holidays. SIL picked the time to eat and said they will arrive an hour before dinner. I fully expect the few things she is making to not be made and her expecting to take over my kitchen for 2 hours to make it.
Yep. Being pretty much forced against my will to go meet up with family. My wife is taking our kid regardless of anything and nothing I can say or do legally will stop her. Everyone is getting tested before driving to the beach house but still. I’m absolutely against it and have said as much but it’s a moot point as my in laws continue to visit regardless as well. Prob gonna be in the divorce thread as I’m pretty livid about it all
Thanks, bert! I called parks and rec to reserve a pavilion but they're not taking reservations due to covid, they are following CDC recommendations. It's just first come first serve. So Thanksgiving morning I'm going to head to the park with a cooler and TV and park my ass down at a prime pavilion spot and reserve one of those suckers. Family will bring some food and drinks and we'll socially distance the best we can and have a great time - weather permitting of course. Also a short walk to the beach.
The only thing that halfway makes me feel ok is everyone is getting tested and quarantine before heading down. Yes they’ll have to stop and use the bathroom and get gas and whatnot but everyone wears masks. So I’m theory it should be ok, that is until it isn’t ok. I’m not a gambler so I don’t like any odds not in my favor that I can prevent as this is preventable.
I have a healthy hatred of all people and especially family gatherings so not having to see anyone for thanksgiving or Christmas is my dream holiday. Just wish my wife was “over” covid and dragging my son to covid parties.
I mean if your going to get together as a family this sounds about as safe as you can be. I'm sure majority of the country isn't going to be taking it that serious.
This year we have a built in excuse now to avoid our shitty family members thanks to the new CDC guidelines. Best take advantage of it
Keep the $10,000 they give you and donate a totally different $10,000 in a totally different account. Then move the gifted money
Death, taxes, and my wife being a bitch before we drive 3 hours to my parents house for holidays. “if the kids cry on the way home, it’s going to be a while before we go back”. ‘We’ haven’t gone since last Christmas. I take the kids regularly without her.
13 days ago now, my Sis in law tells us that her boyfriends family decided to have a huge family picture taken. Next day, his twin sister tests positive. They both go into quarantine and were supposed to go to his parents anyway for Thanksgiving. Ours was going to be small just my wife’s parents and the three of us since we always see them since they watch our daughter quite a bit. Turns out the boyfriends parents have been lying to everyone and the mom and dad also had positive tests since and weren’t telling anyone. Now my sister in law and her boyfriend want to come for thanksgiving and should be on nearly day 18 by then. Just on principal alone I want to say no. Bunch of fuckin morons.
My wife just ordered “thanksgiving for four” from a restaurant in town since this is the first time we aren’t going anywhere in almost 20 years. Spoiler $175
