My wife's family is from probably one of the worst hit counties in the country right now. Over 7% of the population has already tested positive and they are adding 1% per week and that number is increasing. I just found out her antimasker relatives are going to have Thanksgiving at her grandma's in a manufactured home with 25 people there. Her grandma is 80+ It's incredibly difficult to see our warnings get disregarded when it's so prevalent and her grandma is so old.
Going to show the "Santa got covid and died" story to my 7 year old when she gets home. Give her some long term mental issues a therapist will have to unravel
We both know that entire Hollywood Hills crowd is flying home for Thanksgiving and Christmas. That’s what is really scary.
When we look back in say 5 years, will we be somewhat appreciative that it occured? I know this sounds horrible, but I was discussing with someone about covid and we kept trying to think of every positive that will come because of Covid. People may be more likely to wear masks when they're sick. How many people died that were just being 'kept alive' and draining the system/running up medical costs. Odds we see Social Security went up from .0001% to .001% Work from home will be more prevalent (some) Businesses realized that people can be productive in a shorter work week.
was only a matter of time. When bordering states are in crisis and people travel back and forth, it’s inevitable
Holy shit, it would be a borderline miracle if no one there had it if your county is spreading like that and that amount of people in one place.
My dad lives on the beach in st Pete and his building has a ton of Midwestern snowbirds. I’m definitely nervous for him when they all come down for the winter. Going to probably be some covid coming with them. At least the old people on the beach have been good with masks according to him.
just depends where you live in respective areas. I went to Michigan to visit family for 3 months and in Ann Arbor, everyone wears masks and follow the guidelines better than anywhere I’ve seen. In Santa Monica where I live, it’s virtually the same. But I could see how it would be different in Hollywood where a bunch of younger kids live, or in the valley in some places as well. I’m sure OC is a whole different story with the trumpers down there.
That’s the literal opposite of what all LA and Vegas servers are posting right now. Obviously not condoning it but it’s interesting to see that much of a difference in mentality.
I’m 100% afraid of my loved ones getting it. 2 of my kids have pre-existing conditions. The unknown of what this might do to them in the future is also scary. I can physically protect my kids usually. I feel helpless against this in a way that I can’t beat it up lol. So my fear makes me do all I do which is follow the guidelines to keep them a safe. I am pretty easy going but not with their health.
Fifteen Colorado counties, including Denver, are moving to level red on Friday. Used to be the highest level, but we have now added a purple level. no indoor dining. 10 percent office capacity. All bars closing
Hopefully we treat public health emergencies like a national security emergency. Have a stockpile of PPE's and examine where medical supplies in general are coming from. It's a vulnerability to the entire country that no one gave a rip about before covid.
"NEW YORK - All New York City Public Schools will temporarily close to in-person instruction beginning Thursday due to increasing coronavirus cases, school officials announced. "Buildings are CLOSED for in-person learning until further notice. All students who were learning in school buildings part of the week will transition to remote learning every day," said officials via social media. Mayor Bill de Blasio had warned of the closure of all city school buildings once the positivity rate over a seven-day rolling average reached the threshold of three percent. The rate in the city passed that mark on Wednesday the mayor announced via a tweet. The mayor's daily, morning briefing which typically includes an update on COVID statistics had been delayed for more than 3 hours." https://www.fox5ny.com/news/new-york-city-on-verge-of-entering-orange-zone-says-cuomo
I, perhaps incorrectly, interpreted his reference to fear in that post to portray how the MAGA chuds define it. Like people following guidelines to the best of their ability are weak little babies. Anybody taking the pandemic seriously has a respectable level of fear of the carnage this virus is causing. I don’t really know how to address the truthers though. Seems like the only thing that’ll possibly change their opinion is suffering through their own miserable hospitalization.
when I hear/read “don’t live in fear” it seems like it’s people who don’t believe Covid is real and I’m a pussy for following safety guidelines. I live in “fear” of dying in a car accident so I wear a seatbelt, don’t drink and drive, make sure my car is properly maintained, etc. No one would call an irrational pussy for that .
I get that’s how they’re using it, but it’s dumb. Because being afraid of dangerous things is smart. They think saying, “you’re afraid” is some kind of trump card. It isn’t.
"plant manager Tom Hart organized a cash-buy-in, winner-take-all, betting pool for supervisors and managers to wager how many plant employees would test positive for COVID-19.” https://iowacapitaldispatch.com/202...-on-how-many-workers-would-contract-covid-19/
These are the same people that fear a socialist is around every corner and behind every door waiting to destroy America. In short:
My friend is running with the theory that these countries in SE Asia are only successful because they have some sort of underlying tangential immunity from a previous disease affecting their area... of course he can offer no proof but he'll take that to be fact as the only thing that could make sense, and it can't be that their populations are more likely to be cooperative and take this shit seriously.
