I swung by another local store a town over today. Prices were insane for anything he got in. I was pretty disgusted... EHT 18 Year Marriage $1749 EHT BP $499 GTS $650 WLW $1150 Handy $599 Michter's 25 year $5700 Michter's 20 year $3500 OF 9 year $299 Weller SR $89 Weller Antique $139 Blanton's $135 Birthday Bourbon $499
Does anyone know anything about Old Charter Oak? I was offered a bottle of that, but I know nothing other than it is BT.
secondary is 400. Leeroy Jenkins! has had it and enjoyed it I think. FYI: i think BTAC was just low this year which is why prices are a bit higher
Picked up the Charter Oak at $229. Now I can't remember where I saw the WLW at $600. I thought it was the same place but he has it for $799.
I distributed it all to the board and kept one for myself. That's where pperc breast cancer awareness edition came from bc the nobiliary broke and stained the bottle
It was funny though. They told me one per person and I instantly called a bunch of friends and a girl I used to date just walked in, picked up the whole case and took it to checkout and they let her have it all. I guess she just doesn't look like a bourbon nerd.
Anyone had the 82nd Airborne bourbon or know where you can get it for a goood price? My buddy was in the 82nd but the cheapest I’ve seen it was $100.
I forgot that I do have a bottle of BT store pick. Was hidden in my cabinet. Bought it around the same time that BrickTamland smashed one and sent it to me, lol. It is really good. Totally agree these Et and Bt store picks punch way above their weights.
We got so damned lucky... of all those bottles, it was the $25 BT store pick. Although I suppose it coulda been that Hatfield...
Do I want to know how much that OFC cost you? Probably not. Do I want to know what you’d sell or trade it for? Probably
It's heavily allocated and a lottery bottle in most counties but if you're lucky that's what you would pay
what makes say Eagle Rare (a 10 year blend) $35 and Michter’s 10 year (single barrel) $120 at the minimum?
Some reason thought it was $130, either way, damn good price for non state ran store. They opened a new ABC store over on Glenwood Ave in Raleigh and had a bunch of good bottles. Missed out on a Michter 10Y by one spot but was able to grab a ECBP, Blantons, and Weller 107, so was still happy.
No, I'd grab another bottle at that price. Edit to add that I don't hardly ever see it in NC. If it was something I saw a lot then I would probably pass on it most of the time.
One of my friends from high school just called me to educate her on scotch and bourbon. Got me inspired to break out some of my Japanese whiskey. This Hakushu 18 is delicious.
So just prestige or it’s that much better? My EHT Single Barrel was hiding behind a bunch of bottles. Found it, it’s very nice.
I imagine several things play into that. I’ve never had it but those who have rate it higher than ER so I imagine they are sourcing honey barrels. Aside from that, Michters is still considered a craft brand by most whiskey drinkers and you’ll notice that many of those brands charge a premium at MSRP compared to the big boys. You also have to consider that ER was an established brand before the bourbon boom and it’s tough to raise the price in that scenario even though they’d probably be able to sell it at $60+ if it was newly introduced.
Honestly wouldn’t have given Michter’s much thought a year ago if I saw it on the shelf. Their branding gives it an Irish Whiskey look. However, posters in here rave about it. I’m still learning and intrigued by it. (Still eyeing that Bomberger’s at my store NYGator ) why do some brands command a premium like Peerless Rye? It’s a 2 year rye going for $100. Cool bottle? Craft distillery? wtf that seems off. Meanwhile I can get a Pinhook Rye for $35 that’s delicious. Now I’m sipping Weller SR that I paid $50 for and will not buy that again at that price. $30 seems about right.
Yes - Peerless is mostly gimmick/story with some cool packaging. There‘s a lot of hype in the whiskey world. The best advice anyone ever gave anyone is drink what you like and can afford.
I think the best I’ve paid a premium for in DC are Blanton’s $89, EHT SB $79, EC C919 $69. Mistakes I’ve made Dickel Bonded $45, Weller SR $49, Booker’s $79, Bulleit some special blend $49
