Yeah, I’m not watching any broadcasts. It was all over Twitter that the Cavs took him when I posted it.
As fun as Toppin would have been I don't think he makes the team much better. It still would have been at the bottom of the league defensively. Okoro fills a position of need and can make an immediate impact to better balance the team
I can't think of one move they've made that was impressive outside of the Bron's second run here in forever
I don’t mind the Okoro pick. I think he fills an obvious need for the team and has a very high ceiling. Toppin would have made the team’s greatest weakness even worse. Obviously I could and probably will end up wrong.
At some point someone on the team has to play defense. Obi, Garland and Sexton would have been a disaster. Okoro wasn’t drafted for his outside shooting, it’s understood his jump shot is a work in process. He’s the most versatile defensive player in the draft, and one of the most explosive going to the hoop.
I legitimately didn't know that we did not have Rodney Hood or George Hill until I saw them being traded earlier in the week from teams that were not the Cavs. Is Tristan Thompson still under contract?
Okoro might turn out to be a great pick, I hope he does, I'm just so frustrated in general with how horrible this organization is run if Lebron's not in the building. Dan Gilbert needs to sell the team yesterday.
Kind of wild that someone with as poor of a shooting skillset as Okoro can go top 5, but not sure where else we would go. Deni had the same problem. Toppin would have contributed to us being maybe the worst defensive team in the league. I like Hayes and Haliburton as prospects, but would have signaled we'd given up on Sexton or Garland. Between Cunningham and Green, there's a couple franchise changers in 2021, so we're just waiting to see if we can get a stud with the lottery balls next year and if Garland or Sexton make the leap before we sniff playoffs again.
We reached for another poor shooter in the Top 5....again. This franchise never fails to disappoint. Do we have anybody who can actually shoot on this team? And yes, I know we needed defense. But we didn't need to reach for a defender in the Top 5 of the draft. The entire league does not play defense, we need to be able to shoot the ball. But hey...another year guys who just drive the lane...and stink at that too. FTR - Deni or Toppin were my preferences...in that order. I hate this front office.
The sun will rise this morning. The sun will go down tonight. The Cavs will blow all the dicks forever.
Collin Sexton has had a higher 3pt % than Bradley Beal in both years. The narrative on Sexton not shooting in college changed since the Pros he needs to keep improving but he isnt as bad as people are making him out. He is little and can’t defend that is a big detriment to his game. Drafting Toppin feels like a 6 or 7th man on a good team. picking 5 I prefer a lotto ticket until we hit. That is why I am good with Okoro.
Why do people keep calling Okoro a reach? Almost every mock had him going between 5-10. I get the concerns about his outside shot, but that’s not really what he’s going to be asked to do (at least initially). This is a breakdown from a Hawks website, but it’s a pretty solid analysis of who he is: https://www.peachtreehoops.com/2020...highlights-analysis-lottery-pick-auburn-hawks
I dont get the Okoro hate, he was the best perimeter defender in the draft with solid playmaking ability at a position of need. Also the shooting isnt the best but if he's as hard of a worker as people say I can see that improving like Colin's shot has. I also wanted no part of Obi since he would need to average 25/10 to even begin to make up for how shitty he is on defense.
He lived in the gym at AU. Would have GA's up there in the middle of the night opening the place up for him. He could end up a bust but it won't be from lack of working his ass off.
We picked up McGee because a 2nd round pick was attached. This isn’t because our front office identified him as a missing piece. this goes back to our ownership willing to eat payroll costs for assets. Now a 2nd in the NBA isn’t that good but they continue to be willing to spend even when they are not good. Also his contact is expiring. So it’s a one year deal.
Is he good? Admittedly, I don’t watch much NBA/basketball. Bandwagon fan to the max. I just generally hate basically every move the team has made other than acquiring Lebron twice.
I get it and that’s why I am trying to respond. I know you don’t watch and that’s ok. Just to constantly bang on them is silly, and I get it’s a message board. Porter was playing good. He isn’t the best character out there but he has talent. But the Cavs have nothing they can do this year. They took a flyer on Drummond and once he opted in this year the Cavs can’t do anything other than take on salary and acquire picks. Which requires ownership to spend. So everyone hates Dan but as far as spending he is a top owner. He meddles to much but he spends lots of teams would take that
I’ve had the same box of Trojans in my bed side table for four years. They might be moldy at this point.
