players are paid every two weeks and only during the season but these paychecks are huge. You are right on the location of each game. and they are not « paid » in the playoffs. They usually will get a few bonuses depending on the organisations but the normal way of doing it is every player gets like 15 000 if you win the first round...and more the next round and so on. But this has nothing to do with their contract or the cap. It’s just a bonus from the organisation, the one thing I don’t know is how the nhl deal with this. well that’s what i have heard for a while, maybe things changed.
Did they sign a contract for an annual salary or per games played? I don’t know the exact legalese but unlike the majority of the NFL, these are guaranteed, no?
Sure, it’s an annual salary based on a percentage of revenues based on a 82 games season. If the revenues aren’t there and they only play 60 games, they should take a pay cut.
NBA and MLB both pro-rated salaries because of the shortened season. It's not that unreasonable for the NHL to want to pro-rate salaries for a shortened 20-21 season.
Fuck the owners. Everyone agreed on a new deal four months ago. It’s not like a 2020 season with no fans wasn’t expected this Summer. This is just some bullshit.
Also, isn’t the NHL the only league that uses escrow? I thought that was the case. If so, it makes comparisons to any other league moot.
He is speculating a 60 game schedule with series like baseball does. My thought is you do three games series every weekend, and then every other week you do a fourth game with a local team to minimize travel. That should get you done by May. He also says to do a 1-16 playoff based on the 16 best teams, which is ideally what they do. I assume this season is similar to last though, where they bump it up to 1-24 with more play in series for revenue.
The NBA does too, but they have so much guaranteed revenue it's not a huge issue every year. There was some talk about it w COVID though, but it's not the #1 issue like in hockey. Prob not even top 10
Players get paid twice a month. It’s set days when you get it. And you are paid based on a daily percentage of your annual salary. Doesn’t affect guys that don’t move up and down between the minors tho.
https://theathletic.com/2216420/202...l-draft-candidates/?source=emp-shared-article Michigan is gonna have 3 players go top 10 next year. Probably two top 5. also seems like Raty has been slipping for a while. Was the heavy front runner for #1 a year or so ago.
Lots of D in the top dozen or so. As a Sens fan, I still don't know if we have our top line C. Stutzle may end up on the wing, Norris looks like a top 2C and nobody knows if lazy Logan will ever produce. Sens should be improved still a bottom 5 team but there doesn't seem to be a high end C available at this point. If the Sens are in an all Canadian division, that helps them from a perspective of finishing lower in the standings.
I just got caught up on the 31 Thoughts podcast from Friday, and I’m not convinced the owners and PA are going to come together on agreement any time soon. Friedman said a couple of owners that also own NBA teams say the NHL owners are getting hosed in this most recent deal and don’t think it’s fair. Boo fucking hoo.
Cam Jansen said the promoters for the Tyson fight reached out to him and a couple other ex hockey players to be on that card lol
not sure how you even compare the NHL to the NFL. the NHL can’t even get going and it’s all about money. the NFL has had issues with cases but they’re not about to stop playing.
