Illinois had lowest cases since November 4, hopefully that’s not a mirage and is because of the bar shutdown
Can’t wait to take my newborn son to our Texas thanksgiving. I was told we have to have it as it might be our last time to have thanksgiving together. I laughed and said we should probably make having thanksgiving next year our goal. I’m the asshole
that or they aren’t filled with dumbasses like your friend thus they don’t think wearing masks is a big deal,
Swung by the liquor store today and as I’m waiting outside for somebody, up walks a lady with no mask. She’s very clearly older, obese, walks with a limp, heavy smoker and I’m certain she was not doing great financially. She gets near the door and loudly proclaims to the person she rode up with “this is one of the only stores without a fucking mask sign on the door, I’m so tired of that bullshit”. Congrats on your impending Darwin Award lady. You’re really showing those libs!
Mission essential personnel at my office are apparently going to get optional twice-a-week testing starting next week.
Outside of the reported Hollywood Hills party crowd, most of LA is pretty much 100% compliance. Just anecdotal observation from a visit to Michigan but we should be much better shape than the states currently getting slammed. Numbers will look high but that will be due to the greater population.
Yep. People here for the most part take it seriously and they never really reopened things indoors after the walk back in June. I’m going to Texas for the holidays (maybe) and I’m really curious to see how careless everyone is.
pperc once they obtain emergency authorization, how long until they administer the first dose outside of a trial?
I have a friend who is a nurse practitioner in Houston and another who is COO of a hospital in North Texas. Both said they got emails that they expect to have vaccinations for their staff within two weeks
https://www.nwahomepage.com/news/covid-19-test-facilities-reach-capacity-as-testing-increases/ Here we are how many months into this and we’re at testing capacity due to lack of personnel in northwest Arkansas.
SIAP I think of it as coming down to “respect.” Respect for the seriousness of a virus that has killed a quarter of a million Americans and respect for my neighbors to protect against spreading the virus to them if I were to unknowingly have it. Wearing a mask is an act of respect. Same goes for anything else we’ve been asked to do; social distancing, skipping large gatherings, etc. As others have said it’s also an act of patriotism like Biden says. In WWII we rationed gas, tin/aluminum, rubber, nylon (pantyhose), shipped practically ever able-bodied man under 30 overseas, and asked women and old men to work in factories. And now we can’t be asked to wear a mask when out of the house or to refrain from going to Applebee’s or to make alternate plans for Thanksgiving and Christmas this year? Give me a break. We’re softer than baby shit.
I’ve posted how we are all getting tested and quarantine before we meet up but I’m still opposed to it. We talked to our doctors and pediatrician and they all said what we are doing should be fine but I still think we should be safe and just not do it.
What kind of test is everyone doing? Just thinking that from what I know and if it was me I wouldn't feel super comfortable if everyone was getting rapid test with how high their false negative rate is.
Not rapid. Everyone got tested this week. We go tomorrow so that way everyone has results back beforehand and we all can quarantine. We’re handling all the food because we can get groceries delivered so no one has to even go to the store. Only issue should be stopping to use the restroom while traveling. Again, I think it’s a good plan and like the doctors said probably the safest way to do it if you’re going to do it but I think it’s risky and dumb just to go eat food
It’s literally just a day to eat a bunch of food. It’s not like it’s some sort of huge deal. I’ve never understood holiday love.
Speaking of Texas, at least in Dallas, I can not recall the last time I witnessed someone inside a public place without a mask on (excluding dining in restaurants and once seated, which I have only done twice since the pandemic started). But, Dallas people love their outdoor patio dining. I drove by a local place Saturday night that had at least a hundred people outside eating and drinking. It appears to be business as usual for a lot of the places known for their outdoor dining.
My gym (Trophy) has stayed open and has no one wearing masks, obviously I’m not going. Not just the patrons but none of the staff either. Walked by yesterday and they had 20+ people stuffed in there, zero masks, just absurd.
Didn’t realize ND went from near the bottom of deaths/million to currently 8th. Their cases are still through the roof too
Anyone have articles surrounding gyms and COVID? This graphic has made its way around Instagram lately, and while naturally there is no supporting data to back it up, I was curious what reports are out there.
Maybe y’all just took the day off cause you just had one of your absolute worst days with 1500 cases and 200 deaths.
like anything, gyms that require masks will do far far better. and level of community spread vs. not will have huge impact. these studies are inherently flawed by combining all of the data together.
The line which keeps running through my mind is "Everyone wants to be a hero, until they have to make a sacrifice..." My solution would be simple, if any individual wants to engage in behavior which leads to the death or hospitalization of others which can be identified through contact tracing, that individual is now open to civil penalties. Create real financial penalties for those who are negligent or dismissive of commonly held practices which are shown to mitigate the disease. If you host a wedding event where people spread the disease leading to the deaths of others, you are responsible.
if only something that traced contacts existed and was implemented, we could have data that would help us understand more about where people are getting infected
