Getting that Amazon hub in there will be great for the area, but I would be lying if I said I don't miss Century Plaza. I grew up in that neighborhood and the mall was within walking distance of my elementary school (SFX). Had the best food court and arcade.
COVID getting bad in schools (I jinxed myself last week in here, apparently) even though spread seems to be more prevalent in bars/restaurants/etc. Be careful, y'all.
Apparently Cherokee Bend Elementary has 20+ teachers quarantining currently. Can't be but 50-60 teachers in the school total so I'm sure things there are chaotic.
Used to go to Tropical Golf (or I think that's the name) that was in a standalone building in the parking lot of Century Plaza right off Crestwood Blvd. Indoor putt-putt but it also had some serious slot car racing. What a peculiar little niche hobby that is.
I remember there used to be a coin/stamp collector store there that I used to go to when I used to collect said things as a kid.
Birmingham News Tropical Golf Family Fun Center The Tropical Golf Family Fun Center called Century Plaza home for a time. The center opened in 2000 and was Birmingham's only indoor miniature golf course. The attraction also offered slot car racing and an arcade. In this Birmingham News file photo from 2000, center co-owner Patrick Watson prepares slot cars. https://www.al.com/erry-2018/02/774f5a0c9e/birminghams_century_plaza_over.html
Any appliance repairman recommendations? Freezer (not fridge, yet) seems to have died and ‘rona has fucked up the supply chain so that it looks like there’s a ~4-10 week lead time to get a new refrigerator installed. Going that long without iced beverages is not a life I want to live, so may have someone come look at it.
Lewie's Appliances did my dryer a few a months ago. it wasn't cheap but he got it done fairly quickly. it came from a recommendation in here.
BBVA is the 2nd largest Alabama state-chartered bank. Large employer in Bham, lots of people could lose their job.
And as someone who switched my company from pnc to bbva a year ago, this is depressing af. I despised pnc and couldn't have been happier with a bank than I was at bbva. Fuck. I guess I'll be forced to take my business to that asshole One Two
So Dolph Lundgren is filming a straight to VHS action movie in Birmingham? Today they are filming at a house on Hagood in Crestline Park. Apparently the poor crew was forced to eat lunch at Basil.
Bettola should always be given consideration when calibrating your proximity to Italian deliciousness.
Disclaimer: I’ve never been to Giuseppe’s or Bongiorno in my life so I don’t know what they are all about.
I choose to believe Giuseppe's namesake is the artist who sculpted the Vulcan statue, Giuseppe Moretti, (it may be, I've never asked) which makes it extra awesome.
I forgot Bottega is considered an Italian restaurant. They definitely get #1 if you are going to allow them into the debate.
