In 3 years we will still be running the same scheme with lesser talent. I assume transfers and decommits will be the running theme in December.
Oklahoma, like Nebraska, has to send COVID patients out of state because of strain on local health care systems. Weird.
if you were corch, would you give Smothers a look? I think any QB is doomed behind this line, ultimately, but AM and LM ain't it. He may not even know the offense, im not sure. but in a wasted season with no eligibility being burned, why not? I do not believe and haven't for a while that LM is a QB in this offense or really any offense. I would do everything I can to talk him into moving to slot WR.
Can you imagine how much this pandemic must suck for Clemson fans? I feel strangely grateful for the timing of this pandemic
Obviously we are WOAT, and I was excited when Bookie “committed” but holy hell that dude is a complete clown. Glad he’s not here honestly. A rare time I’ll say that about a big time recruit.
Really? I haven’t watched us play OSU in years and regularly turn games off in the first half. Seen this movie enough, I don’t need to invest another two hours of sadness into Saturdays on a regular basis
The best Nebraska quarterback plays for Rutgers and he isn’t good. let that sink in and that says everything about the football team.
What is our offense? What's the strategy? Zone Reads, WR screens and QB draws? I don't understand game plan week to week. I feel like any semi-competent HS coach could strategize a defense to stop us. Defense has some dudes, but every other game Chinfense looks like shit for no particular reason. We were told it was the previous coaching staff being soft and having soft players. So, we have a "Nebraska" homegrown HC and we literally replaced an entire roster over the past couple of years and intentionally sent a lot of guys packing. So, now we have a roster full of "Frost" style guys, while it seems like every other week in the spring and summer we lose some player or two. IDK what the solution is. Besides having S-tier facilities and tons of money, we have nothing going for us. High school kids weren't alive the last time we were relevant. We aren't a cool place to play or trending upward. We're a bottom tier Big Ten team without a solid recruiting base. We recruit ok but not great. We can't out-athlete the big boys and we can't out scheme anyone. We get outplayed and outcoached by 90% of the country. I see no way Frost fixes this ship unless he reinvents his staff and gets enough of "his" style recruits, which I don't think he can do anymore. We have a billion penalties and lose the turnover margin almost routinely. We aren't excellent in special teams. Frost isn't the answer, clearly. I'm not skeptical we'll ever be able to lure an elite up and coming coach away from anyone else. I just think we're doomed to be a mid to bottom tier Big Ten team for the foreseeable future tbh. I don't see a way out with this staff, and there's no way we can Frost this year. MAYBE if we only win 1 game this year and go like 2-10 next year, but I think Frost is here 2-3 more years regardless.
honestly our main identity as a program is the ability to make more mistakes than any team in the country
And to narrow it down, the total inability to recover fumbles. Like, freakish anomaly can’t recover fumbles
Recorded the game but caught a spoiler from an unlikely source right before I started. Not gonna watch that but enjoying this Butgers contest. Too bad we’re awful. But we knew we were going to be awful. This staff clearly doesn’t have it. But it was the ONLY hire to make. We’ll be awful for a long time.
My wife went to Nebraska. I’ve tried rooting for you all for the past four years. Going for both OSU and Nebraska is a huge waste of my time.
That's alright I like Buttgers a whole lot more anyway those posters get how awesome Ratt is. Nebraska is just Pete Ricketts in every way.
I just saw that yesterday was the first time UCF was an underdog in an AAC game since 2016. So again, not sure how much Frost was out-scheming Tulsa and ECU in that miraculous season.
considering a *decent* amount of front 7 during that time are playing Sundays or got looks/seem to be decent players, something tells me the scheme isn’t working in this league
Maybe if this staff was filled with coaches instead of groomsman it wouldn’t be pathetic at every fucking aspect of life.
I may have posted this on here before, who knows anymore, it seems like the thoughts about Husker football are just a continuous cycle. Anyways, I think the weirdest part about being a Husker football fan the last 15+ years is the fact that there really is never an opportunity to get invested for more than a couple weeks (if that). It's hard to get excited about a win, when you know a game like yesterday is coming. I know I will watch every week, but each week it gets easier and easier to just not care. Its not because of the losses, as everyone knows I love Nebrasketball, but its just the continuous same old shit aspect of this program. It really sucks that we have tried so many times, and each time it has been some half-assed effort in finding a HC/staff that will bring us back. At the same time, you see teams like Iowa State, Minnesota, Purdue, Indiana have success while we're stuck trying to find some clown who will win the Nebraska way or whatever.....we can't find a clown who will WIN....I really wish there was a way to just start from scratch but its not possible. I think we would be better off embracing the last 20 years rather than the 1970s-1990s, but we wont. I watch enough college football to know, we will never truly be dead like some think (Frost or Bust!!!)...but part of me thinks it might take another 10 years until the fanbase just doesnt remember being good and we can give a guy free reign to turn things around.
Texted my friend yesterday during the game. I remember when Diaco got hired here, the things people said about his D to hype up that hire are basically the same things Chinander TRIES to do, but no one will call him out because Frost hired him. I have never played a down of football in my life, but there are times when I have sat in the stadium and have told my dad which WR will be running wide open based on how we line up....if I can do it, Big Ten coaches can do it.
constantly showing recruits highlights from before they were born is just reminding them that we’ve done nothing of consequence in that time. We have to get humble and do basic football things right, stop talking about rounding corners and being “back”, and stop having an unearned attitude of superiority. this may require some boomer death
Exactly...I'm not saying completely throw away the trophy case or anything, but we have to use it in the right way/context. Instead of showing recruits clips of Tommie Frazier to convince them we're not a terrible program...say "This program has won before, can you be the guy who helps us win again?"....I just can't imagine the current players (most of them at least) care about the Blackshirts for example. Whether thats right or wrong, whatever....you have to tap into the current roster's mind to motivate them, not into what motivated the D in 1995.
Also, I think the mindset of “turning the corner” just needs to be scrapped too. I know Frost says it 100 times a week but it’s not just him. That’s been a program mantra for 15 years now. We literally need to get back to basics and somehow manage to focus week by week, no matter who it is, one game is not going to take us from 2020 to 1995.
exactly, all that shit removes the focus from what’s staring at them every day: you are what your record says you are for the last ten years. It’s a long fucking time. Stop talking about being great with kids and a program that literally can’t do that. Work on snapping the ball and lining up onside.
I actually disagree pretty strongly on this one in bold here. From Day 1, Chins has been the whipping boy that gives the Tradition Coalition types an easy way to rightfully criticize results without going after the native son. And for as trash as our defense has been, especially from a scheme standpoint, the offense has somehow been even worse. Both are on Frost, but offense even more so, especially given his empty initial bluster about it.
I agree with all of this BUT think we should be somewhat fair to the blue hairs whipping Chins. Let’s be honest here, his position is not entirely on merit and if he’s not replaced after a season ranking in the bottom fourth in D1 total defense, there’s not much else to say about it.
The sad thing is in today’s era, you don’t even need a defense that can consistently hold teams to 14 or less. Even Saban said those days were over just a couple weeks ago. The issue with the Chins defense is they give up so many 3rd downs and also (aside from PSU) have not been great at limiting red zone TDs. With our “style” of offense and now the inability to get a first down, the defense is being set up to fail by the scheme and also the fact we’re asking them to be on the field 70% of the game because we can’t get off the field ever.
Here's what's 100% bullshit: It takes longer to rebuild at fucking Nebraska than Indiana, Liberty, Arkansas, Iowa State, etc. It's just propaganda to give any coach people "like" more time and excuses. Our coaches haven't been good enough since 1997. Period, end of story. We've got a clown show Division 2 level coaching staff now without big time experience. Florida told Frost to fuck off when he said he's bringing his entire staff, but us? We're the fat girl at prom willing to give anyone with an NU letter jacket a handy J in the bathroom if they'd just give her attention so of course we said yes to all of his demands and are now paying for it. What's even dumber is thinking he'll clean house on assistants and eat a slice of humble pie. We've got Davison spreading bullshit every week on the radio and Lambrecht spreading bullshit to Dean and Sip while Joe Q. Huskerfan still believes in the Nebraska way and those guys perpetuate that message, record be damned. Settle in because it's not getting better any time soon.
How many times have we won as a dog under frost? Or as a dog in the last 15-20 years period? Has to be fewer than 10 but I’d guess fewer than 5.
