Scientists have come to understand that there is no "empty" space between atoms. That space is filled with particles and fields that help keep the structure of the molecule together.
HA! This exact same thing happened to me about 12 or so years ago. I used to take my dog to swim the Cahaba off of Grants Mill fairly often. I can’t remember if Church of the Highlands was there then but it certainly wasn’t as developed as it is now. We regularly had the place to ourselves. On this day there were no other cars in the lot so I had him off his leash and he immediately bolted for the water. I threw him a tennis ball for 10-15 minutes when I noticed a young family loading a canoe in the water. As I turned back to my dog I realized he was swimming back with something in his mouth. To this day, I have no idea why I thought this - but I saw him carrying a doll’s leg. Red pants, white shoe. I could not have been more mistaken. I was dying laughing trying to get him to drop it while this poor mother looked on. A few months ago I found the phone I had at the time. Somehow it still worked and the picture was still on there. Spoiler See? Red pants, white shoe:
One of my good friends in HS who had a mom that liked to drink a lot. I stayed the night with him on NYE. She went out on New Year’s Eve and drank too much and on her way home slammed into the guard rail on her exit to come home that was a U turn exit. It popped her tire and she road the rim the last 4 miles home as it was throwing a huge trail of sparks. She somehow makes it into the driveway and goes and passes out. Cops show up at the door like 30 mins later and ask who was driving the jeep Cherokee on the rim and was throwing sparks and digging a rut in the road for 4 miles in downtown that they kept getting calls about
