roast turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, mashed parsnips, mashed rutabaga, cranberry sauce from can, hawaiian sweet rolls, and gravy. Thanksgiving for 2. So good. Rutabaga my fav.
My mom would make something similar for us when we were kids. Chocolate pudding instead of cool hhhhwip tho
Had some solid mac and cheese, the good kind in pie/casserole form not the goopy Kraft-like crap. Stuffing was rote, got just a little for some flavoring. Turkey was Cajun-fried, dark meat was nice, white not as juicy but like the texture difference, skin was perfect. Took a bite of what I thought was squash casserole and it was actually one of those horrible old southern lady pineapple casseroles. An unwelcome surprise. Sweet tater casserole was chock full of candied Carolina pecans and was as it should be, a dessert before dessert. There were butter beans and field peas but I passed on those. Wish we'd had some collard greens.
smoked and oven roasted Turkey Blanched green brands in Brown butter, garlic, shallot and salt and vinegar almonds Mashed potatoes Scalloped sweet with chipotle cream sauce Sweet potato casserole Corn pudding Stuffing
Didn’t do the fries but here’s everything else: Added chili oil to the grits and made them three cheese
Made a real cunty garlic and rosemary crusted beef roast, mushroom gravy, and roasted cherry tomato and shallot risotto. But I stole the show for my 2 year old with a cold Hawaiian roll
There was apparently a Cornish game hen shortage, so I roasted a duck instead and ended up with approximately 1.5 cups of delicious duck fat.
Casually browsing for ideas Zeroing in on a Mac& cheese, green bean casserole, and sweet potato casserole of some variety. Spoiler https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/food-network-kitchen/instant-pot-mashed-sweet-potatoes-5296007 https://basicswithbabish.co/basicsepisodes/thanksgivingsides

Just the wife and two picky toddlers, so went with a blueberry balsamic glazed turkey breast, stuffing, rolls, and pumpkin bars.
We weren’t going to host family with a 2 year old and 3 month old and no one else offered to host so we just did our own thing with my wife’s mom. Also I despise Turkey as a main dish Ribeyes with Garlic butter Roasted Brussels sprouts Wedge salad with homemade blue cheese dressing Sweet potato casserole Hash brown casserole Pumpkin Pie Apple Pie
I do think this will be the last time I do Turkey. It was fine, but there’s a number of dishes I enjoy more than Turkey that are also easier to do imo. I guess my only hesitation is I love the side dishes that come with Thanksgiving, dressing/stuffing chief among them.
Turkey Ham Mashed Potatoes and gravy Green Bean casserole Sweet Potato casserole Chicken and noodles Mac n cheese Deviled eggs Cornbread Rolls Peach cobbler
I’ll ask my wife tomorrow as it’s her family recipe. I know it’s super simple though. This is obviously very helpful.
I agree with nexus and Old_Gregg I’m very interested in recipes for these two if you’re willing to share.
With the turkey deep fry debacles. Is it just due to still being frozen in the middle or the oil is too high and overflows?
I think it's probably 45/45 with the last 10% being someone fumbling it and throwing oil out even if it is the right amount.
