there is a 7000 page thread about racist white people that's been on the front page of this message board for 4 years
The fact that you can’t tell the difference between these two things is exactly the point I’m trying to make. There’s a difference.
We don’t agree on everything, but this 100%. The number of fucked up, embarrassing white people in the US is innumerable. Of course black people have embarrassing members, their population numbers in the tens of millions
Yeah you’re right but to be fair to me I didn’t participate in that. I simply pointed out Carson wasn’t qualified to be HUD secretary. Also the discussion was started by a black man, Does that give “permission” to continue the conversation? Maybe not but I can understand why some felt they had the “permission” to join/continue. I use permission for lack of better words.
oh please, i understand the point. i just don't think saying that jason whitlock appeals to racist white dudes is the hill to plant your finger-wagging flag on. especially in the context of a thread about a king dog-whistler like clay travis
How you contextualize something matters. To be frank, Pesci, you often suck at this. Many of us miss the mark from time to time, and it's good to discuss and be made aware of it.
But of all of the worst black people: the discussion was Jason Whitlock, for his sports-based opinions and Ben Carson, for his time associates with the Trump administration. But i’m showing my ass People like you are what is wrong. You have takes like this so nobody that isn’t already in agreement with you keeps listening because you sound deranged.
Absolutely not what I'm doing at all. Jason Whitlock sucks. I've been pretty clear what I'm talking about and the parts of the discussion that are kinda shitty.
i mean you'd think that after 10 years, some things could go without saying considering that it's a message board, not a socratic seminar i'm not telling anyone who they shouldn't like or what they should think or anything like that. i do think this last half page is some wack tone policing, though. again, especially in the context of a thread about clay travis
Not on a message board whose purpose is discussion. We are listening but also voicing our opinion. The phrasing (who is the most embarrassing) might be wrong but the discussion is valid. IMO Whitlock, Owens etc do more harm to the black community than white people who have similar positions and agendas. Carson hurts the poor in general. Bringing up Carson hurts the discussion. Comparing him to grifters like Owens and Whitlock is wrong. Carson has actual power.
It's weird to me that when hood b. goode pointed out that the phrasing was shitty, the immediate response is backlash/equivocating/rationalizing instead of just saying, oh yeah, that was kinda shitty. It isn't tone policing at all. It's lazy characterizations in the way white people (even people who are sensitive to racial issues) talk about black people. I also think it's weird that the initial conversation is valid because we're on a message board, but legitimate criticism of that conversation is presented as invalid.
post of mine you quoted I literally said the phrasing was shitty. I pointed out in other of my posts that the phrasing was shitty. So idk what else I am am supposed to say. I also never said the criticisms are invalid. I simply said people are allowed to voice their opinions.
mens soccer not being a bigger thing in college athletic is a shame because womens college soccer is great
He was a black conservative, which to Trump was the only quality he needed for HUD. Its honestly more demeaning to put a black person as head of HUD. Carson was qualified for much more, but was given the "black" cabinet post. Whitlock and Owens are the same person, demeaning their race for profit. I just despise Whitlock more because of who he's doing his stick on. Both are two of the worst black people alive.
Your immediate response was "has anybody say anything wrong" and then a bunch of rationalizations. I don't think you're a racist or anything. I don't think you're an asshole. You acknowledged it once it was pointed out. I think it's a bit of a blind spot and an uncomfortable conversation that causes good people to have a knee-jerk reaction. Now that I typed all of that out, I re-read your "not on a message board" comment, and I think it misinterpreted it, so whoops. Apologies.
My masters is in Urban Panning my concentration is community development and the built environment. HUD is very important to me. I wasn’t minimizing the position. Him being black has nothing to do with it to me. His lack of qualifications for such an important position was my issue. The disrespect for the people that need that position to be taken seriously was my issue.
Obviously people are allowed to voice their opinions. Doesn't mean they aren't shitty or poorly contextualized opinions.
eh "white people shouldn't be talking about this" isn't really an argument i also think there's a sort of bloodlust among white people online to prove they aren't racist and you and bwc are doing it now
Nah, I just think we should listen to our TMB friends when they tell us it's a shitty conversation for white people to have (it is, if you take even a few seconds to think about it). Not to mention, bloodlust is such a weird word for this matter. I don't get why you guys have such a strong desire to determine who the worst AAs are (probably a better application of your word choice), but have at it.
Oh I 100% understood your point. My point was this dude was a renowned neurosurgeon, and was placed in a job he was nowhere near qualified for other than the idea that his skin color made him a candidate. I absolutely get the need for the department and why it needs to be adequately staffed. My only issue with race is it doesn't take a genius to know why a party full of racists put a black person in that specific position.
i think beeds saying Whitlock was in the running for worst person alive had people join the conversation and add who they felt were worse. I’m not blaming him for the conversation I am just adding context to why the conversation moved in that direction.
Oh certainly, there's a nature to how things flow. The pushback against hood b. goode and Professor Moriarty has been ridiculous. People don't like being called out, I get it. None of us like it.
It was literally just a point to show my hatred of Whitlock. I apologize if it took the thread somewhere else, but not really because he really sucks.
i had to go back and read the posts. You’re right they both had the same message. PM just didn’t get any active push back.
"I know there's no evidence, but we all THINK there was fraud, so they should just accept our results."
Will Cain is a rapist. There may not be enough evidence for a court system, but there should be enough evidence for him to go to prison for life.
It’s never surprising when the “let’s keep politics out of this” guys let their actual political thoughts be known.
Will Cain spent however long he was on ESPN auditioning to be the Fox News "sports" guy. He is a scumbag of the highest regard.
