Stroll with a flip. Bottas with a puncture. Leclerc pushing Vettel out of the way. a lot is happening
First race watching live after I binged Drive to Survive. I’ll be here a lot now. Please be nice, I’m A moron who never learned how to drive a stick.
he’s a nice enough guy, but I’m still salty that he’s in that seat instead of Gasly. and now I’d love to see checo or hulk in that seat instead of Alex
My wife was in the room when the race started and her initial reaction was “oh no... he’s dead”. When they didn’t show any shots and stood with the race leader I thought the same. Seeing him in the safety car was such a relief.
I believe everyone who watched that race today witnessed a legit miracle. His car was lodged between the metal with 100 kilos of fuel on fire. The fact that he was able to withstand an amount of G’s that pushes the limits of the human body. Get his belts unbuckled, get his legs out of the cubbies, climb over mangled metal and get away in under 18 seconds is just insane. Also the medical guy who ran face first into that fire with no real protection should get a damn medal.
Is that type of barrier common in F1? I causally watch it from time to time and I thought that was a weird barrier for that part of the track.
It’s not likely that a driver will go off in that area which is why that barrier exists there. There’s also an access road right behind it.
Knew the access road, but thought they were coming out of a corner there but watching replay looks pretty straight before the crash. I hate how those access roads cause the barriers to come out at those angles, but there’s not a great alternative.
This is the best angle/video I’ve seen. Really puts into perspective the amount of time he was sitting in the fire.
Grosjean should lose his license for that. I know he was close to it anyways, but every time in recent years there has been a "holy shit someone could have gotten killed there" it's him at fault. What are you doing turning that sharply across a straight like that? Won't matter because he'll never get another F1 drive
ahh gotcha I was confused for a minute. So Mick and Mazepin. That seemed to make the most sense given Mazepin’s dad is a billionaire
They need $ and it doesn't make sense for Perez to waste a year in a Haas that will just be fighting for 9th at best next year. He might as well just start politicing for a 2022 drive right away. Hulk wasn't going to ever happen because is the wrong direction on both sides of the income statement. Brings no sponsor $ and wants a high salary. If we was going to drive for Haas it would have happened last year.
At what point does lances dad just tell him he needs to be in a boardroom for the team instead of in a car
Im not sure Seb has the fire to be an elite driver anymore. 2018 proved that and it’s why Ferrari put Charles in the car in 2019. If Seb has the fire and you see him out Qualify and race Lance next year like Max is doing at Redbull I’m not sure you can keep Lance in a car for 2022. If Seb is who he is now... Well I think Lance will have some cover and be racing for some time.
It's crazy how Lance (an awful qualifier through his career) was the one to snag a pole from the midfield a couple weeks back.
Things broke in every way possible for him. I put very little stock in his talent actually being the reason that happened.
It feels harsh saying that and agreeing with you given his recent accident and how he could’ve been killed but your spot on. It’s good he’s done racing and there isn’t a chance he ever gets back into a F1 seat and that’s a very good thing.
His pace wasn't that good, I think Red Bull are smarter than fooling themselves into believing that was a good drive. You could point to just as many reasons he shouldn't be retained from this weekend as reasons for keeping him.
what is the upside in keeping him? he all of a sudden cuts down the minute plus pace advantage max has over him? didn't he get lapped one or two races ago by max?
His talents develop, but he stays at a Bottas level and never threatens Ver, he’s cheap and they can keep bragging about their junior program. Bringing in Checo or Hulk takes some shine off that RB program.
Has Grosjean’s form ever been worse? I know the Haas has massive problems with the rear, but the man gets a black and white flag/ penalty every race.
The only way to compete with Mercedes is (for either driver or constructors championship) is with two cars performing at a high level. When Ferrari were a threat in 2018 and 2019 they had both of their drivers in place to dictate strategy. Max will never win a championship without help.
Watching Netflix it seems like every mistake he makes compounds on the previous ones and he's lost it by now. He should buy a farm in the French countryside and cook ratatouille and souffles at this point. (He said he wanted to be a chef)
i guess i don't see the downside to giving perez the second red bull seat. i know they don't *need* money, but i'm sure it would be nice and he's significantly better than albon. give albon the second alpha tauri seat
I think it’s going to be tough for Red Bull to recruit a top tier driver to partner with Max. You would need someone exactly like Bottas with little ego and a company guy. The car is set up so much to Max’s driving style it completely puts the second driver at a disadvantage. Would love to see George get a chance to drive the merc this weekend. Most of the rumors are centered around him.
Perez may want a multi year deal. I don’t think he wants to go looking for another seat next season. I don’t think Redbull really wants to get into a long term deal. that is the biggest negative imho to bringing in Perez.
My boy George is going to be driving Lewis' car?!?? Holy shit that's amazing!! That would be like if Patrick Mahomes was your teams QB for next week. Oh God I hope he out qualifies Bottas to keep his streak alive of beating his teammate.
I'm going to temper expectations for George given that the car is tailored to Lewis. Although, he'll still be a hell of a lot faster.
I read that and got really excited to see GR in a faster car. Then I got a bit anxious thinking about what happens if he stinks it up. Normal people would accept it as he is in someone else's car and he was pulled into it for less than a week to figure it out, but others could jump off a cliff.
