lol that’s like 11 tackles a game. Pretty sure our leading tackler has 38 in one extra game.

From the article posted by BrentTray

    * From the emailbag: John wonders why Nebraska running back Dedrick Mills missed the Iowa game. The 5-foot-11, 220-pound senior didn't travel with the team to the game, although Mills practiced last week after sitting out the Illinois game with an apparent knee injury.

"Pretend you're a journalist and ask (Frost)," John writes.

Pretend I'm a journalist. Now there's an idea.

hahahaha love people calling Sipple out.

Finally watching Frost's post-game interview. He's in over his head. He does not garner any confidence. I would not want to play for a whiny bitch ass coach like him. 5:50 mark he starts talking about snaps.

I couldn't finish. Too low energy.

This response from Banton after the NDSU game is so awesome. You can tell there's a completely different culture in the basketball program.

Sam McKewen : When you left the game, did you know how close you were to a Triple-Double?

Banton: Ya, my teamates told me, but you know, we want to play like that so we can get everybody into the game. We're all grinding everyday in practice. We've been here since summer so you know, I don't care, I don't care if I get that triple double or not. We got all our guys in. Everybody had a chance to have fun and play out there, and show off for their families. And that's what it's all about man, we're all having fun and it's great. It feels good to be out here with these guys you know. Love thse guys man. It's great.

It’s really weird because I kind of thought the fact he’s been successful in football (1997 as a player, part of good Oregon program, UCF’s undefeated season, etc) would bring much needed confidence/“swagger” to Nebraska. The issue is, it’s becoming more and more apparent he may not know how to handle adversity/failure, at least yet.

We talk about how the team needs to learn how to win, but in a weird way I think Frost needs to learn how to lose...How do you adjust? How do you get better? Do you make tough decisions and evolve as a coach, or do you keep blaming Mike Riley and the Iowa sideline for clapping?

I knew this dude was from Canada, but I did not expect this dude to sound straight up like Rick from Red Deer. Cracked me up. Love the basketball programs trajectory though.

Trey McGowens sounded really good too. They have a swagger and confidence in them. You can tell they each repeat things that Hoiberg says consistently throughout practice and games. He's really drilled into their heads accountability and playing for each other.

Dude had insane levels of talent surrounding him in 96-97 and at Oregon. This was probably my biggest question mark for him when he came back: how was he going to get talent to Lincoln? It's apparent that he and his staff do not have the requisite relationships built to get guys to Lincoln. Even Riley had these relationships and it was apparent with the caliber of player that he got on campus, even if they never committed.

Hes been able to salvage the recruiting class the last couple years in the offseason (at least finish better than expected), but I’m wondering if the fact it seems like we always get commits out of nowhere/in the final month is a big factor into why it seems like they all bail so easily.

As of right now the Jurgens experiment is worse than moving Baker Stein from OT to DT. Feel bad for Jurgens honestly, he never played center let alone OL before this and was asked to learn on the fly in actual D1 football games. Then when it’s apparent he can’t do it, they keep rolling him out there rather than maybe move him to guard or something. Tack on the fact I don’t know if his body can handle the weight he had to gain to play the position.

I still think the OL was pry the best position for him. He didn’t seem to have the hips for linebacker, and he was a better prospect (than LB) as a TE but I’m not sure how exceptional. Agree with the weight issue.

Yeah I still would be interested in seeing him at guard I know he’s a little short for what they want at OL, but he does seem to be alright after the snap happens. It’s not like our current Gs are All Americans either.

Cam can cost us three drives per game but our young receivers miss a block in practice and are nowhere to be seen on Saturday.

That first one is actually shocking, I’m sure the PSU game helped, but I think after two games we had given up 8 TDs in 10 RZ trips compared to scoring 3 on 10.

To be fair, refs usually call holds when a guy is about to get a sack or TFL and in general our guys aren’t in those positions.

We constantly lose the turnover battle, the third down efficiency battle, and the penalties battle. When I look at the box score every week, those are my biggest concerns. I’ll be honest with you, the holding thing, is something that is taught. It’s all about hand placement and feet placement on offense and selling it when we play defense. It sucks to say this, but you have to sell calls if you want them. Spread offenses have usually struggled in red zone efficiency because you have less field to spread out, to lose a defense.

Fleming is obviously a weird situation as is because that dude almost went rogue on signing day so him bailing isn’t a complete shock.

That said, I wonder if it’s kind of a double edge sword that certain guys do the brunt of the recruiting, like Held and Fisher. I’d assume the whole process you talk to Fisher, but then you get here and probably never interact with him much, so you don’t have a true relationship with your actual coach. I’m sure it does good and bad but another thing I thought of with these FL kids bailing.

I posted a few weeks ago that IMO the most concerning thing is the same major issues we see now (what you listed above) have been around since game one of the Frost era. That’s not a good trend.

Good D-lines are the ones who get held a lot. Math checks out. There's zero reason to hold anybody on pur DL, and that's why it hasn't happened

Nothin gonna stop Nebraska guy from crying "it's rigged!" as though there were some common denominator for this team's many failures aside from itself. It was worth a try in 2003, when our sucking was so fresh on the heels of our dominance that you did have to at least wonder about nefarious occult forces at work against us, but I'd hope by now more people realized we are truly just bad at football.

Damion Daniels abused Iowa's center last game. He was most definitely held a bunch. They had no choice but to hold the man. No calls but not a shocker.

I think teams like Iowa and Wisconsin can get away with it more too, because they have a reputation of good/solid OL over the years. Just how it goes.

Same thing happens in basketball, seems like certain teams (Wisconsin again) will get more 50/50 charge calls than others.

We got almost no holding calls the last 2 years but I chalked that up to shitty DL play. This year there have been multiple blown no holding calls on extremely obvious plays.

    1. This has been the Husker football motto for about 20 years.

    2. To your point, a holding call would probably just result in us giving up another 3rd and 13.

this. We’re a front running team right now that wants to play an evolved form of offense without getting basics right. Through lack of talent and coaches expecting too much and not just focusing on details.

Probably doesn’t help our chances to get a holding call when it seems like we either rush 4 guys vs their 5 OL....or when they dial up a blitz the dude is coming from 20 yards away and barely makes the LOS before the pass.
