    She’s coming in today

I was reading this morning that the 3080 and 3090 do not fit the Alienware R11. Is this something I should worry about for future GPU upgrades?

Just start watching a lot of videos of people building, and it'll seem pretty simple after that.

I watched Robeytech every stream he did and it boosted my confidence big time.

What is my ideal GPU temperature here? At peak I am 81 Celsius with Valhalla. My friends say that’s fine, are they correct?

It’ll be fine at 81c. You shouldn’t get any hardware damage unless you’re running in the 90s.

That’s really good. I’ve only got a 2070 Super, running 1440p, and the frames are around 60.

What’s more important refresh rate or resolution

    I have a 27in 1440p monitor with 160hz refresh or a 70 in 4K tv with 60hz

With big games like Valhalla of Cyberpunk which presents the best experience?

From what little I know, your smaller monitor is preferred for quick reaction, fps style games. Too big of a screen is too far for your eyes to travel to recognize and react. If you’re saying more cinematic games like those listed, I see no reason not to enjoy it like a movie on the bigger screen.

Another thing to consider is FPS vs refresh rate. 160hz just means the monitor can handle 160 FPS, if your FPS is lower than that the monitors refresh rate is wasted.

i play most everything on a 27/1440/160 monitor. frames matter in many many games, its why competitive shooter players often put their settings on potato to get 300+ fps.

i dont have a good answer, but i do prefer destiny at 1440/60 rather than 1080/90

You've already heard some of my recs, but for watching a 4k blu ray or something, the second.

For high fidelity gaming, the first.

Like other people said, there might be some games where speed doesn't matter, but for pretty much anything multiplayer, you'll want to be prioritizing speed.

Generally speaking for video games, refresh rate is king. Assuming you’re sitting at a normal distance from the screen, 1440p 120+Hz monitors are a really good mix of resolution/size/refresh.

Frame rate > resolution in multiplayer games

Resolution > frame rate (still want a minimum of 60) in single player games.

its one of these guys: https://www.cnet.com/reviews/samsung-syncmaster-930b-review/

dont even remember how i came into possession of the thing. mostly use it for message board stuff and tabs that need to be open but dont need to be seen. its like the bottom half of a monitor turned vertically, which i also have but can't seem to get windows to snap to that properly

at this point i just want to see how much longer its going to live

trying to decide on what to build exactly, narrowed it down for the most part, but have a few questions i've found answers hard to come by for. main thing is getting the rtx 3080 and supporting that.

guy i know says go with ryzen 7 3700x for cpu vs. intel because it'll support future gens in the mobo (x570) and supports PCIe 4.0. found a build website that has deals going black friday that include 3080 but a z490 mobo and intel core i7 10700 (not unlocked) and it'll end up being about same price as if i built it solo with the 3700x, but newer and more powerful cpu, only the SSD will be samsung evo 970 instead of the pcie 4 evo 980. so my question is would you go with the intel or the ryzen i guess? part of me wants an upgradeable pc but also to future proof, so if i get this intel cpu and mobo would i be looking at a couple years before i really want/need to change it out for a new cpu, mobo, and ssd because pcie 4 is that much better, and is the ryzen 7 3700x even being superceded now a better option strictly for the upgradability?

i have no need for that much power. i'm fine with ryzen 7/core i7. plus the core i7 10th gen is $100 cheaper than the newest ryzen 7 and about $50 more than the 3700x. but if it's dumb to go intel now vs. amd for whatever reason i'd like to know reasons.

I'm looking at monitors myself right now, mostly for work/enjoyment though. But with a heavy gaming past, I can break it down like this for you:

    Competitive Gaming:

    1. input lag
    2. refresh rate
    - Everything else preference

    Leisure Gaming:

    1. IPS/color quality/etc.
    2. resolution (be sure your video card can handle it if it's on the larger side)
    3. refresh rate

I personally would not game on a 60hz monitor unless that was the only choice. High resolution also impacts performance so at a certain point there is a tradeoff and I have always preferred performance (FPS). 27" is more than enough monitor for me.

In short, a 27" 1440p with 160hz refresh sounds great for all gaming. Just be sure the input lag is acceptable if you are playing competitive games or games with a lot of rapid screen movement.

    Depends on the activity.

gaming needs to be lower. If I picked an arbitrary number, I'd say under 25ms-50ms. I don't know what pro gamers use but probably under 10ms.

Watching a movie? Could hardly matter.

Recently switched over playing Valhalla from my TV to my monitor and even though it’s 1440p and the tv is 4k, it looks so much clearer and runs so much better FPS is flying

can’t wait to do cyberpunk with ray tracing on this baby
