They’re not going out and tasting every whiskey in the world. For that it’s basically only Jim Murray’s Whiskey Bible. They have to be entered into this to be rated/ranked. It’s all blind taste testing, so the liquid speaks for itself. BIB Dickel was #1 last year. Nikka From the Barrel was top the year before. That was the year I went to Whisky Fest in NYC that’s centered around this. Had the VIP early hour entry where they have all the specialty super limited whiskies. Very cool experience.
My favorite store that typically does a big bourbon release event isn’t doing it this year, but the owner still held back some bottles so now he’s hooking up some of us and fortunately I’m “in” enough to make the cut.
It was whatever I wanted. I don't know much about wine so just told the guy to pick out a bunch of full bodied reds he liked that I could try. Got the 20% case discount too.
Ha! Should’ve cross-posted with the Peloton thread - that’s the closest fridge in the house to the bike now.
I got a OF single barrel and WT Kentucky Spirit from them last fall. Was surprised they had so many barrel picks.
I reached out to them a couple years ago to do some reviews and ever since they’ve somewhat consistently sent me bottles of new releases, this is the first swag bag type deal I’ve gotten from them though. Pretty nice touch
Nothing crazy but picked this up to try as well as a pair of a new Foursquare release. The price was well below list, so I figured why not. I have tried the chocolate rye from this collection and it is actually quite good and very easy to drink. It's the 2018 release.
Let me know what you think of the Detente. We just got 70 more cases of it after having to allocate the first smaller shipment. Hoping I can pull a sample bottle next week, you know because all my accounts want to try it....
Wife won the Watershed Nocino raffle 4 year bourbon finished in Watershed’s Nocino Black Walnut Liqueur barrels at 110.2 proof pretty neat Sidenote the Watershed Nocino story is worth a read, family recipe passed down for years that somehow ended up in Columbus from Italy. Here’s the short form https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2015/12/02/dining/nocino-walnut-liqueur.amp.html
