I actually got one of those OF Single Barrel 100 proof store picks that NYgator posted a couple weeks back. delicious
Jealous, I bet it is amazing. Their nocino was good to begin with, but since they've started barrel-finishing it, it's even more amazing. The mouthfeel and viscosity on it now *Chefs kiss. We're supposed to get a little bit of it down here at some point next year. Going to snag a bottle then, hopefully.
OK, because my guy has it but I hesitated. That's the brandy cask? Went to some of the smaller shops in town today and scored a bottle of Blanton's for $74 and a bottle of Hancock for $39. I feel like a hoarder at this point. One of these days I will start getting rid of this stuff.
So I just bought another bottle but we know I'm prone to overhyping things (cough cough peerless). Its definitely different, some people may like it some may not. Its bourbon but big ole pear bomb up front and then light finish. I drank that after cracking the 2020 GTS last night lol. The GTS is phenomenal.
Did a Makers tasting last night, 46 Cask Strength, Makers 101 and Wood Staves. Wood staves release was easily the best but 46 Cask Strength drank well under the 110 proof.
I’d like to try a 46 cask strength. I like the normal 46. Stopped by the store today to see if anything interesting had come in, but nothing special. Four roses small batch and some nice rose ice molds included. Tried one out and worked pretty well.
do yourself a favor and get old grandad bonded instead of basil Hayden. Same mash bill higher proof and half the cost.
I went to that guy who is all over the place with pricing, who knows a little but not enough. It's in a not so great area next to Hofstra University. Anyway, I knew the Pappy's all came in locally this week, but it seemed everyone only got 1 bottle each of these three. I couldn't get a bottle from any of my regulars unfortunately. In any case, I asked him if he got anything new in, and he said Pappy's but they are really expensive and I have them hidden because one of my regulars thinks I owe him and always tries to haggle with me. I asked him how much for the 10 and he said $250. Then I asked about the 15 and he said $725, and then I asked about the 12 and he said $400. I told him I would take them all and he looked surprised. I know that is well over list, but it is also well lower than secondary, and I am not touching those prices anywhere in NY. I have an open bottle of each already and a spare of the 15 and 12, so I may just use them for trades. Pappy 15 is going for $1500+, Lot B is like $650-800 (I wouldn't feel comfortable buying it anywhere from a store with counterfeits and that could be even more), and ORVW 10 is going for around $575.
Today was a good alcohol day overall.. The 1792 is a barrel proof Total Wine store pick at 125 proof, that just came in and seemed interesting. The Chestnut Farms is a Bottled in Bond also from Total Wine and it is a Sazerac/1792 brand. I have never tried the Shin but it was allocated, and they said it is supposed to be great so I grabbed a bottle, which was limited to one per customer.
At what point do you say “I should probably quit buying, I have more than I can drink in my lifetime?”
This is something I have been contemplating a lot lately. I have a bunch of stuff that I want my daughter to sell now that she is back from college for a bit, so at this point I am buying things that I know have very good resale value.
Finally got my hands on a WLW via a trade.. threw the box and packaging on the floor like a kid on Christmas.
NYGator sent me a sample, fairly certain I’d take it over my ‘19 Lot B as the best bourbon I’ve ever had :(
Went back to my new go to store and asked them if they had anything good in. He immediately said he thinks they had Weller green label and walked in the back. He sold me their last bottle. Multiple stores are telling me they get Blantons in and I just have to keep coming by or calling.
They probably have twenty customers like you per day that come in and ask that same question. It’s a difficult situation as a store owner, but they’re trying to secure business long term.
Asked him about Pappy. He said they only get a few bottles a year and that the owner decides where those go. I'm in Rotary with the owner. I talked to her about Blantons once . I need to come up with a way to talk to her about Pappy. She probably has a ton of people that ask her about it too.
how much you pay for Green label? I’d say that one is maybe the only one I wouldn’t pay above $30-40 for a 750 ml.
Went to a store I never frequent bc their prices suck. I like to check in and see if maybe they’ve changed their ways. Lol nope. They have a bunch of stuff I want but way way too expensive. Weller SR $69, Blanton’s $169, High West MWND $199, several Pappy’s for min $1500. Just ridiculous.
