Totally but none of the three guys on it are from the south. I always thought it mirrored us. I enjoyed the pod and enjoyed the trio for future sports movies.
Yeah when I saw it at 13 I didn’t think anything of it but once I was 16 and played I knew it was corny.
I’m really mad they didn’t comment on the best quote of the movie by Alvin Mack: “Fuck you dough boy, I can read. See this shoe? It says ADIDAS.”
I agree with pretty much everything he said about Harden. I just don't understand how he can possibly think every person in his audience hasn't heard him say the exact same thing at least 10 times.
No chance in hell I’m listening to that Rick Barry pod unless one of you guys tells me Gladwell found a way to put him on his all-Nigerian team
I am very pro player now let me tell you all the reasons this is bad and dangerous and I’m not pro player.
At least Ryen isn’t saying James Harden will lead to a generation of 13 year olds thinking they can quit anything in life
Bill talking about how “everyone has gotten more labor friendly” and how it’s swung too far in that direction is very much him projecting his own union disputes. At this rate, he’s going to be pro-owner next time the CBA is up.
I don't think he's wrong to suggest that you can be okay with player empowerment and still think Harden's actions are worthy of a ton of criticism. Or that there are situations where players use their power in ways that screws over teams and players. That said, his obsession with the framing of it and the "pro-player/pro-owner" thing is beyond tired, and it's made worse when he takes the same side every time and pretends like he doesn't.
I agree, but the next time either Simmons or russilo criticizes an owner or any sort of management side of a labor dispute will be the first. So saying they’re pro player just because it’s a favorable stance to take doesn’t pass the smell test.
It’s annoying because he’s clearly an expert in the history of the league, but his analysis was just dead wrong/disingenuous
he says the same thing about literally every star that gets moves. It’s always “I’m typically pro player but here is why he’s wrong this time” I’ve never heard an example of him being pro player.
So this week Bill will say the Pats stink and never had a shot. Can’t wait to see him change his tune if they beat Miami the following week
Grade A Petty Bill is him not allowing the Cowboys to be eliminated yet during that guess the lines segment, but he eliminated the Patriots after like week 4
The more old excerpts from his writing get exhumed on Twitter, the more I am baffled by how I hung on his every word in high school
very pleased to wake up to a podcast called "Buffalo's rise" and Bill opening up despondent about the pats
“I was bar backing in Boston, but after the towers went down The North End scene was never the same. And that’s why I quit smoking on September 12th and moved to LA”
There wouldn’t ever have been a woke player empowerment era if the towers never fell, and maybe I’m being an old guy but I liked the way the game was played in the 80s when the C’s had it rolling.
Anyone else been listening to the 60 Songs that Define the 90’s pod? I enjoy it for the most part but this week’s song was “Mayonaise” by The Smashing Pumpkins at the request of this week’s guest, Bill Simmons. Simmons then went on to talk about Nirvana and Counting Crows the entire time as well as how he and his friends were way ahead of the game on knowing Nirvana would make it big.
Simmons likes Greta Van Fleet so that should tell you all you need to know about his taste in rock music
i can't remember who it was he had on, but some musician and he was like "have you heard this new group, Greta Van Fleet?" had to pause and walk away after that
This is correct lol. They were talking about how there aren’t any big rock bands anymore and Simmons brought them up
