another popular one is "eliminating regulations" because, you know, who gives a fuck about drinking water and clean air
I figured we’d have some word of companies/sports leagues/rich people buying the vaccine pretty soon.
It's utter bullshit but if you're talking 20-30 million doses a month, a few hundred thousand aren't two big a dent.
^ Spoiler Select Subcommittee Investigation Finds Evidence Career CDC Officials Were Directed To Destroy Record Of Political Interference By Trump Administration Dec 10, 2020 Press Release Clyburn Demands End to Stonewalling Washington, D.C. (December 10, 2020) — Today, Rep. James E. Clyburn, Chairman of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, released new evidence indicating that Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Robert Redfield may have ordered subordinates to destroy an email showing that senior political appointees in the Trump Administration had attempted to stop the publication of scientific reports on the coronavirus. Chairman Clyburn sent a letter to Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Alex Azar and Director Redfield seeking immediate compliance with the Select Subcommittee’s investigation into political interference with CDC’s scientific work and requesting a transcribed interview with Director Redfield to further investigate this matter. Director Redfield’s actions were described by a CDC career scientist during a transcribed interview by Select Subcommittee staff. “I am deeply concerned that the Trump Administration’s political meddling with the nation’s coronavirus response has put American lives at greater risk, and that Administration officials may have taken steps to conceal and destroy evidence of this dangerous conduct,” the Chairman wrote. “It is critical that the Department end its stonewalling, preserve or recover all responsive documents, and provide the documents and witnesses that the Select Subcommittee needs to investigate this conduct and help protect American lives during this deadly pandemic.” The Chairman warned that if the Department failed to make a complete production by December 15, “the Select Subcommittee will have no choice but to issue subpoenas to compel production.” On December 7, Select Subcommittee staff conducted a transcribed interview of Dr. Charlotte Kent, Chief of the Scientific Publications Branch and Editor-in-Chief of the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) at CDC, regarding attempts by Trump Administration political appointees to interfere with the publication of scientific reports on the coronavirus. During the interview, Dr. Kent stated that she was instructed to delete an August 8 email sent by HHS senior advisor Dr. Paul Alexander to her, Director Redfield, and HHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Michael Caputo. She also stated that she was informed that the direction to delete the email came from Director Redfield. Federal law requires the heads of federal agencies to preserve records, including emails. Intentional destruction of federal records may be punishable by up to three years of imprisonment. Dr. Kent stated in her interview, “I was instructed to delete the email.” She explained that she understood the instruction was relayed by Dr. Redfield to her supervisor and another member of her staff. She continued, “I went to look for it after I had been told to delete it, and it was already gone.” When asked who deleted the email, she replied, “I have no idea.” Dr. Kent stated, “I considered this to be very unusual.” When asked if she would normally retain this type of email, she stated, “typically it would have been.” Dr. Kent also revealed that CDC delayed the publication of a scientific article to ensure that it would not be released until after Dr. Redfield’s July 31 testimony before the Select Subcommittee. Dr. Kent testified that she understood that the delay was because, “there was an interview with the congressional Oversight Committee, and there were some very important things that they wanted to convey during that meeting.” When asked whether she was referring to Dr. Redfield’s July 31 testimony before the Select Subcommittee, she responded, “that's probably it.” At the July 31 hearing, Dr. Redfield testified that he believed schools should reopen for “face-to-face learning” in September 2020 and noted, “There’s really very significant public health consequences of the school closure.” He did not mention the CDC study, which found that the virus spread widely among children at a summer camp in Georgia. The hearing ended at approximately 12:45 p.m., and CDC released the report approximately 15 minutes later, at 1:00 p.m. Following Dr. Kent’s revelations, HHS abruptly canceled four transcribed interviews scheduled with other CDC employees this week. HHS has also failed to produce key documents requested by the Select Subcommittee in its September 14 letter, despite multiple promises to do so. The Select Subcommittee’s September 14 letter to Secretary Azar and Director Redfield explained that the investigation sought “to determine the scope of political interference with CDC’s scientific reports and other efforts to combat the pandemic, the impact of this interference on CDC’s mission, whether this interference is continuing, and the steps that Congress may need to take to stop it before more Americans die needlessly.” “Those goals are even more urgent in light of the information obtained by the Select Subcommittee showing that top CDC and HHS officials may have taken steps to obstruct oversight into their activities and to delay the release of accurate scientific information regarding the coronavirus for political purposes,” the Chairman wrote today. Today’s letter requests a transcribed interview with Director Redfield on December 17 and warns that HHS’s failure to produce documents responsive to the Select Subcommittee’s September 14 requests by December 15 will force the Subcommittee to issue subpoenas. Today’s letter also requests the production of documents and communications regarding efforts to delete, conceal, or withhold Dr. Alexander’s August 8 email and demands the rescheduling of the four other transcribed interviews that were to take place this week before their cancellation by HHS. yeah i've heard that one. but.... what the fuck? there is no peace in the middle east at all. in fact, things have only become more destablized
This shit sucks. My mother in law passed away today. She fell a few weeks ago and was afraid to go to the hospital. My wife drove to see her and convinced her she needed to go see a doctor. Well she went and passed away alone. Fuck everyone who doesn’t take this serious. Her husband of over 45 years couldn’t say goodbye. My wife who loved her mom couldn’t say goodbye. My kids couldn’t say goodbye. Now I don’t know what the services will be like. She hated me for the longest for good reason. She was a good woman and a kind loving grandma to my kids. May she Rest In Peace.
That sucks. I told a coworker today that the ones complaining the most about safety protocols are the ones prolonging this.
Complications in surgery attempting to remove blood clots. It’s just the restrictions caused by covid on hospitals that have me pissed right now.
Well our local hospital system is going to start cutting elective surgeries due to the thanksgiving surge that’s happening and is bringing in additional resources to address staffing concerns.
My stepdad suffered a stroke last month and spent 12 days in the hospital. Thankfully my mom was able to go visit and be with him daily. That's fucking insane hospitals won't allow anyone in. Goddamn covid.
up until a few days ago my sister in law was able to visit with her. Unfortunately, with things getting worse the hospital stopped allowing her in too. It breaks my heart knowing she died alone sad confused and god knows what else when she had plenty of loved ones who would have held her hand before she went into surgery. This shouldn’t be going on. Her husband should have been with her. I know it’s not a Covid death but it’s a consequence of people’s stupidity. Sorry for the rant and I hope I’m not out of line for posting it itt. My heart hurts for my wife. She is on the road to Modesto I had to stay in LA to take care of some stuff before I can meet her up there.
I'm so very sorry for your loss. Your anger is righteous. It's always hard for me to console someone who has lost someone they loved, yet I always feel compelled to try. Drown your family in love and support and (rightfully so) seethe in private. But you didn't need to hear me say that, a good father and husband already knows what to do. If you need anything, reach out.
Daniel Ocean so sorry you and your family are going through this right now. Hope you're able to find out the best possible way to celebrate her life properly.
I hear you man, but this isn’t eating in a restaurant, this is saying a final good bye to a loved one. It’s definitely an extreme measure.
And every last person in that hospital would rather have that loved one at the bedside, but it's just not feasible in certain situations. The risk is just too much to already exhausted resources. It's a pretty easy ethical decision compared to some of the other dilemmas faced in the healthcare environment.
I was the only person allowed when my son was born back in may, and I had to test negative for covid beforehand or she would have had to given birth alone. It’s really sad that because of a handful of neglecting people and their goddamn worship of a fucking moron that we are in this mess
can i complete nursing school in the next 3 weeks so i can be considered a front line worker and get the vaccine quicker
Get whatever credentials you need to be a substitute teacher and go do that so you're in the second group. Or go work at a meat packing plant ndb
i think you're joking about the substitute teacher recommendation but i am not. i want the needle and i want it before anyone else
Actually not the worst idea but it depends on your state requirements and if you've got free time to sub.
I know a guy. He’s got the kovid vaccine for $100 a pop. You’ll shit blood for about a month and may grow an extra nipple but in theory you shouldn’t catch covid from it.
The number one best part of restaurants is you don’t do the dishes. That’s why me handling the dishes exclusively for one month is one of my gf’s birthday gifts this year. She gets the restaurant benefit with 100% less of the Covid.
of course more of the known and traceable cases will be from households. How would you KNOW you got it at a restaurant? If you’re going to a restaurant, you’re more than likely going other places. That’s impossible to trace.
