I don't have anything smaller than 2500. I'd personally go down in rod rather than reel. Try and find a ML or L power rod and go with 8 lb braid.
I usually just wear my Simms shoes but with Moreno socks but thinking about grabbing those Xtra tuff boots idk how practical those are on the kayak but I think they'd work well with my Bibb

a few months back I threw a bunch of rods out of my boat to clean them. I flushed my engine out and did some other shit around the boat. I forgot I threw the rods out because I was doing so much other shit. I pulled my truck and boat forward to where I park it and ran over 2 rods including my falcon with a brand new stradic . Completely destroyed them

In short, if you can fuck something up on or near a boat, I've done it. I always learn the hard way.

Noticed that (duck boots) in your pic. Be careful wearing those in an open boat. Find something warm that can't fill up with water and weigh you down if you go over.

I have messed up two reels trying to clean them. Talked to my dad last week and he says that he used to do that all the time too. So he just bought cheap reels and threw them away after a year and bought more

Caught a stud 28 inch red today. Picture does not do it justice. Caught on my new 1000 size reel and medium light fast action rod. Absolutely a blast. Took me for a ride

biggest crappie and bass I've ever caught. And the only 2 bites I had. Lake has an 11inch slot limit on crappie so there gotta be some more monsters out there.

So my brother was surprised with ~200 trout to stock his pond with from a hatchery as a Christmas present from his wife. I can not wait to visit him in the hill country and catch and eat some before they all die in spring.

There's a doctor who lives outside Tallahassee that stocks his pond every winter with trout and allows people to fish for them. I went once while in college. Was pretty cool when you thought about it

Grew up with the fishing culture that eating large mouths is repugnant. Not because they aren't good but because they're a catch and release species. Now I would eat them but it's hard to shake that indoctrination.

Same. Here in SoCal, LMB fishing feels like a protected resource. I always feel terrible when one swallows the hook.

Which is weird because they're literally the most common freshwater species in the U.S. besides maybe carp or catfish. Probably because big bass were/are so prized in fishing culture (especially tv shows growing up) so let them go so they can get big.

i have heard a few start to argue that the non-stop tournaments on lakes is worse than the folks filling a cooler. there are some poorly run local/club tournaments and some of our lakes have 3 tournaments a week on them from spring-fall.

Only time I’ve ever eaten them is when we’ve tried to clear as many small bass as possible out of farm ponds then had a big fish fry afterward. Not bad, but far better eating fish out there.

Took my daughter to fishing last week and hit up the delayed harvest section today. Caught a bigger brown than the rainbow below but my phone died.

Coworker had fished here last week and caught a 16 inch brookie. Was hoping to find it but no luck.

Picked up some yellow/brown chenille from the flyshop today. Going to make some to mimic the golden stonefly. That's the big hatch in Montana when I'm going to be there. They recommend size 2-4 for there.

Had a really fun morning today before the rain came in. Tons of trout, pretty much every cast. These pictures don't do justice to how fat these things were. Went to get some redfish, but it was too cloudy to see them and started catching these blind casting. They were in 2 feet of water. Never seen them stacked up like that in that shallow of water.

yep. pretty nice having the extra foot of rod. been using euro leaders and colored sighters for a while, but not necessarily fishing euro-style. it’s frustrating.

I tested it before the Trout I got. I liked how it casted for the price. The Trout was a lot smoother, but Karl at the fly shop really likes the Carbon XL.

also, made it from the pull off down a very steep hill safely only to slip and bust my ass on a piece of frozen moss beside the river. laid on my back and thought about life for a second.

pro-tip: let go of the rod, toss it to the side if you can, when you are falling. you’re less likely to fall on it and bust it.

I busted at the Thompson earlier this fall. Lost the knob on the reel, luckily Lamson sent me a replacement for free.
