I've seen good reviews but some mentions of static causing stray grounds but nothing that a drop of water with the beans can't solve.

So my reply never posted for some reason.

I usually buy 2lb bags rotating across a few roasters (Black & White, Snowy Owl, Verve, at times Onyx but I've been cutting back due to $$) and a rotating single bag every month (mostly local ones these days like Broadsheet or George Howell to supplement the main bags).

Currently, I have a bag of Broadsheet headliner blend and sight glass blueboon with some black and white beans on the way.

Have you pulled the trigger on anything?

I had originally purchased a breville barista express and it was on back order. Good price.

I ended up yesterday canceling and got the breville infuser and sette 270 grinder. Breville had a good price on Amazon and arrives in a day.

Imo, half the battle is better beans - freshly roasted (well 7-14 days from roast date for espresso). I found that the infuser worked well for medium or light medium and up - light roasts are a different game.

IMO, you should look at happy mug at least, if not your local roasters and other specialty / third or fourth wave roasters. Anything with no roast date but a best by date is not worth spending money on. Also, the grinder will be "seasoned" after you put a few pounds of coffee through it.

I take my grinder out to the garage and grind my beans up out there as to now wake the house at 5:30am.

We've got a moka pot we usually use on the weekends. Love the extra kick it gives. Would rather have an espresso machine. One day.

Yeah, my garage is out. It is my spring remodel project as it is currently storage and only has 2 outlets, all being used by washer/frig/freezer.

I appreciate everyone’s concern. I am currently grinding 2 servings at a time in the evening and everything is working out great. When I make it to my ideal world, I will only grind 1 serving at a time 1/2 a second before I make a draw in the vacuum of outer space for the perfect freshness.

I used to do this. Its rare people have this compassion. My gf this weekend had to get up early and I noticed she went across the house to blow dry her hair so it wasn't loud in our bedroom. Huge kudos.

So my plug sold me this to add to the distilled water for my espresso machine. Necessary or nah? They make one for coffee machines as well.

can’t you just buy mineral water

  26. pratyk

You don't want too soft water (eg near distilled that can corrode or rust boilers) or too hard (which some mineral waters can be).

Best get some testing strips and test your water or mineral water before using it. La Marzocco had a good guide around water use for espresso machines.

You definitely want at least filtered water. Tap water will muck up your kettle in addition to not tasting great

I would give the 3rd wave water a shot in the distilled. You can get a small pack on amazon as a test. I haven't seen a huge difference with it vs filtered, but both tap water and distilled have enough cons to avoid if you're going through the trouble and cost of making pour over imo

Wife got me the new mug from Fellow for Christmas. The OG model has been great & my favorite over the last year or so, but the little anti-spill disk is a game changer... now I can drink in my car without fear. Highly recommend

Not a huge step up. Virtuoso+ would be the upgrade I'd make. Keep checking back on their refurb site, as I was able to get one for marginally more than the Encore earlier this year.

Breville Smart Grinder Pro or Bartaza Virtuoso?

Just doing French press and pour over right now. Or is the $20 upgrade from the Virtuoso to the Sette worth it?
