Took a gamble to finish my Tigers collection with a Torkelson auto, but last two base autos to sell at auction went $415 and then $435. Some guy listed one today at $300. Looked well centered in the photos with no obvious issues. I bought it. I had an ebay alert set up to notify me when new listing came up and snagged it. His market will obviously cool down so its a gamble at $300. But for so much cheaper than others are selling i had to take it.. Adley Rutschman cards going $230-250 still. Think he will have slightly more value than Adley so I am hoping the $300 range is where he settles. Worst case is I dont like it and immediately flip it when it gets here. Best case condition looks good and I send it in with my psa sub And I can easily sell cards I've recently pulled to pay for it so I feel better about it. Edit to add i think I figured out what happened. The very last one that sold at auction went $266. But it said at end of title "read" in description and in pictures you can see very bad scratch on the card. I'm guessing this guy saw most recent sold $266 and didn't bother seeing it had issues and didn't notice other ones that sold have all been $415+. I'll take it
Woke this morning to my Torkelson purchase canceled and refunded on eBay. BS, seller must have realized they underpriced it
eBay is a joke for big time sales/purchases. The ability to just cancel on either side after purchase is mind blowing.
I've had this happen a time or 5. The hobby becoming mainstream is cool and all but there are a lot of horrible people associated with it now.
A guy I follow on YT and insta sold a Justin Herbert Prizm RPA for like $6500 but the guy who won the auction said he wasn't going to pay because he only valued it at $3500.
They just need to impose a fine. Say 10% of the final auction price. Then you give the seller 95% of that and the other 5% goes to eBay. Same goes for sellers. You list a card and you back out the sale you owe the buyer/eBay 10%. I think a lot of these problems will be gone in a few years and all the “new to hobby” people will move onto something else. You go through these groups and I would say in the last few months people joining the hobby has increased 5x. They all want to be flippers and make a quick buck. Well problem is unless you can get to the store and get product your chances of making money are very low. I’m seeing all these people out there trying to purchase cards or getting in breaks or rip and ships and they spend $20 and they don’t get anything and then they are saying well I’m out of money till Friday. Those people will all be gone and the market will settle eventually.
Tony Pollard had a long TD run today against the 9ers. I have his Contenders auto that I got as an extra in a lot of cards I bought about a week ago. I put it on eBay for $20 and it told like 30 minutes later. This hobby is stupid.
Totally agree, it’s such a flavor of the day right now. I see Frank gore caught the pass to seal the game for the jets. Thought about listing a autograph helmet I have of his and asking $200 just as a joke
Some guy on ebay is selling for a break of Bowman draft 7 cases jumbo and 3 super jumbo (56 and 18 boxes). Torkelson auction is over $4k with over 2 hours left. Blows my mind considering you could buy his gold wave auto for less than half that price. Seems like an insane gamble
It’s crazy what some people pay to get in these breaks. I see guys paying a few hundred dollars to get into breaks that are just hanger packs. Take that $200 And just buy 5-6 hangers and you have a better chance of making anything rather then chasing a lone team.
Yea at those prices your better off buying your own boxes and selling your hits to buy more or just buy the card your searching for Breaks are fun, but I can't imagine paying a lot of money to do them.
This is the hobby right now. Incredibly reactionary. Kyle Guy has a good preseason game? People run to ebay and find his stuff. Never mind the fact that he might not even be in the rotation this year. INVEST!!
My dog has a 45 minute vet appointment at a rehab place tomorrow thats 30 minutes away. There is a card shop next to it. Scared of what I may spend killing 30 minutes there
I did SuperCard for WWE and it was fun. Then I got on a crew with Poetic and they had a system where I was unlocking all the top stuff easily. Was fun but that crew burnt out and disbanded. I couldn’t go back to grinding solo again so quit. But it was fun.
Still haven't pulled or bought a tork. Prices actually going up not down on ebay. Feel I've spent too much on boxes already. Who knows, may buy a pack from super jumbo to guarantee one auto.
Hope you get that card Doing something similar with Wings rookies with my son So damn hard to find new hockey
It’s crazy how much less pitchers are valued. Picked up a Max Meyer 1st Bowman Auto (3rd overall pick) for $30 yesterday.
That's awesome, doing it with young guns? I have space on other side of window and debated doing it with Wings but didn't know how I wanted to do it. Wings only have like 9 1st rd picks who have young guns and most aren't great, yet guys like Datsyuk, Z, Lidstrom, Fedorov all have YG and weren't 1st rd picks. Not enough wall space for every YG....so im debating how I want to do it. I already own the expensive young guns, I have signed Datsyuk and Zetterberg ones both I've had for years.
That’s what I’m thinking Maybe start with Seider And just have some of the better ones from past years
Zadina YG prices still not nuts. If you wanted to stick to 1st rd picks I think there are only 9 and most are $10 or less. You can get Larkin, Mantha and Zadina $10-20 still. They are starting to go up a little, I mean I bought psa 10 of Larkin and mantha months ago for under $30 each. Think those go at least double that now
I think I saw metal universe is coming back this year But like Bowman 1st have kind of become the go to rookie in baseball, young guns is that in hockey
Kinda regret not grabbing any sp authentic I saw at the local target a couple weeks ago That shit goes quick off the shelves I’m in those stores all the time and they get cleared out fast
I've seen a ton of UD Series 1 around here, bought a few packs and one blaster box hunting Lafreniere but no luck. Pulled a couple inserts that surprisingly sold ok
Is a blaster the the tin with like 10 packs 8 per? I’m not hip to the card lingo these days in terms of packaging. Favorite all-time tin box. Donruss Preferred ‘97 hockey. Some of the most bad ass inserts ever.
Yea the tin is like $30 with i think a couple extra packs in it. Blaster is the smaller cardboard box that is like $20. I've actually seen both in stores
Welp i couldn't resist buying one more box of the 3 auto bowman. Still no tork but think i can get my money back. One great pull, a redemption for a purple Refractor auto of Austin Hendrick. Other two were meh. Pulled an orange auto, but of Burl Carraway, and a Refractor auto of Nick Loftin. Pulled a few decent Refractor and a few not great color
Saw some of that today and I think Leaf something Had Panini Prism baseball with Tork on front Some 20 UD hockey The Target had a limit of 1 on boxes
You can resell any packs or boxes of the football prizm without opening them for easily double plus what you paid. Card store i was at today was selling $20 blaster boxes for like $75 i think
Would love to be in the know of what boxes are really in demand. I come across them all the time in meijers/target. Go fast though.
I created a monster with my wife, she loves opening cards with me. I told her today I was kind of bad but only bought the $300 box instead of the $500 box. We opened our mail after and got way more in our check from 5/3 bank from repayment of our escrow account from selling our house then we expected and the first thing no lie she said when she saw how much the check was "now you can go get me the $500 box to open"
Edit to add nothing baseball in retail stores now are worth too much. The good product out now is only available in hobby shops. Topps update and Bowman Platinum, do not buy Upper deck series 1 hockey has one card worth a lot in it (Lafreniere rookie), but odds aren't great hitting it. Not high resale value, but if you have an itch to open some cheaper stuff it's not bad to look for Lafreniere. Some other cards have ok value, but nothing great
whats got these cards/packs going for so much? I saw some at target the other day but had no idea. and is it better to just sell the unopened box instead of opening them?
At those resale prices, if you want to make money selling them unopened is probably your best bet. QB rookie cards (Burrow, Tua, and Herbert) sell well and Zion stuff jacked up basketball prices last year. Unsure what they will look like this year with not as sure fire of a rookie class
Basically everyone wants the next Jordan rookie card. So if a hot prospect or rookie is out, that sports cards will fly off retail shelves. Hockey the go to is Upper Deck, Football and basketball is Prizm but some other sets sell well too. Baseball is Bowman for guys 1st cards or topps / topps chrome for rookies
Yes, panini releases a shit ton of sets. Their baseball isn't worth much because they don't have licensing so its guys without team names or logos. Prizm is what sells hottest, but others do pretty well too. Prizm draft usually sells only ok and only until real set comes out so maybe stay away from prizm draft.
Anyone getting a box of the Panini Basketball Flawless in 45 minutes? It’s only $6,300 for one pack and ten cards. https://www.paniniamerica.net/2019-20-panini-flawless-nba-trading-cards-hobby.html
Looking forward to watching YT videos of people get absolutely demolished opening these. I watched several case breaks of immaculate basketball and they were awful. I imagine these will be the same.
https://chalicecollectibles.com/col...ducts/panini-2020-prizm-footballl-blaster-box Cheapest I've seen blasters of Prizm on the secondary market
