I need to give Rare Breed another shot; maybe it was overhyped but I didn't love the bottle I had (and I really like RR10 and most WT products.)
I'm in the same boat. Love RR10, it's been my daily for a while now, but I gave rare breed a try after not having it for a while and was pretty meh on the bottle. I'll give it another try here soon.
Definitely going to make a list of bourbons I want and when family starts asking for my wish list for Christmas next year I'm sending them that.
I like Russell's better than Rare Breed as well. Not sure that I've ever done a head to head, but I think I have both open. Christmas Eve bourbon drank time.
just picked up some Rare Breed. it's pretty tough to find in Athens. also got a bottle of Ezra Brooks Distiller Select (107 Proof) for $29. anybody tried that one?
Yes, I was pleasantly surprised for how cheap and young it was. The Rebel Distillers Picks are p good too if you can find one. They are barrel picks so I'm sure there's some variation.
For the Rare Breed just gotta know where to look Guessing you went to Bottleshop Westside for their Ezra store pick?
I asked my dad for a bottle of Buffalo Trace, he showed up with Jefferson’s Ocean instead. He said the Buffalo trace was too cheap for a gift
I will say if you can get a single barrel store pick BT it will rival most other bourbons. Not the higher proof stuff of course but it's going to hold its own with most others. Especially for that price point.
You get in on the craziness of yesterday or today? For those not from NC and don't get to enjoy our shitty ABC system. Yesterday they did a special drop of some Buffalo Trace products. Stagg Jr. 15, Blantons, Eagle Rare, BT. You had a bunch of people following the delivery truck around, waiting in lines for hours, getting in fights in parking lots. Just craziness. Saw a post of one dude that took the whole week off of work just to do this. It's gotten beyond annoying to try and get anyting decent around here.
Not for me. There’s enough good stuff you can find with a little effort that fighting the truck chasers isn’t worth it. What about you?
Nah, I value my time more than those guys. I did stop by my normal store about 15 minutes early, no tip just a feeling they might randomly drop something. They didn’t get anything though so oh well.
Saw smoke wagon at my local store today. Any other Georgia guys seen it yet? They wanted $50 regular bottle and $70 for small batch. Did not buy.
I rescind my previous statement. Rare Breed > RR10. My palate has gotten used to the higher proofs and it definitely shows off the flavor profile more.
I need to side by side these. I really like both but currently have neither. I’d also want to through in a RR single barrel to the test.
Really liked mine, which was from Total Wine in Kennesaw. It was finished in a Syrah barrel. What was Citi’s finished in?
Fred minnick did a massive blind tasting last night to pick the yearly winners in several categories as well as overall best bourbon and American whiskey. The winner was.....drumroll.......Pappy 15. So everybody make sure to go out and pick up a bottle or two. On a more attainable note though, Barrell batch 26 was “the second best thing he tasted all night” out of 30-40 top options, so may be worth picking up.
Every time I grab a bottle of Barrel Bourbon I am disappointed. All their stuff has that slight Dickel hint to it. Dovetail and Armita though
Thanks, I’ll consider it. I’ve got so much to drink as it is that I should probably stop importing bottles
