my wife was on a conference call with all department heads for the state of Ohio today they are fucking absolutely clueless how to distribute and administer the vaccines- they have no money to do it it was umm disheartening
my grandmother is in her mid 80’s but lives alone and has no underlying issues. she already has an appointment set up in our tiny county for the vaccine next week. didn’t think she’d be eligible yet but feel a lot better that she is getting in early. also gives me hope that our county has enough for me to jump the line
Is there any update on the vaccine in terms of spread? Last I read it was 95% effective on stopping the virus in terms of one becoming sick but unknown if someone who is vaccinated could still spread the disease
actually grandma is getting the shot tomorrow gonna call the health department tomorrow and charm my way to the front
My mom got the vaccine yesterday. She’s a volunteer coordinator at the cancer center of a big hospital. I’m v thankful she’s getting it. However a bunch of people are pissed because younger people who work on the Covid floor aren’t getting it until round 2 while some retired surgeons who don’t even see patients anymore we’re able to get on the round 1 list. Bs.
not that one just the bloomberg tracker and someone saying with storage issues as is and expiration on the vaccines the priority stuff going to get thrown out the window if we don't crank it up
I definitely hope so, I dread seeing reports of vaccines being widely discarded because they expired since they literally didn't have enough money to get it distributed widely.
Pretty good chance we crack two milestones tomorrow. 20 million cases and 350k deaths. Meanwhile our government is tying aid to election fraud that doesn’t exist and some section 230 bullshit that is going to backfire into their stupid fat faces, and vaccine distribution is as embarrassing as Taques scholastic record
Phone call from my father in Ohio today. “Your best friend’s dad, who just got out of icu, was put back in. He is being sent from Athens hospital to Lancaster. Your 80+ aunt and her husband on oxygen have covid. She has a fever and he is asymptotic so far. Their four daughters all have it. Two of their grandkids and three great grandchildren have it too. I’m guessing that in each household all have it.” Mask less at their church’s Christmas program last week. Half of the above were singing in the choir together. Hoax and just the flu beliefs might kill a few of my family.
It’s too bad someone can’t take the GOP to court for wrongful death after what they’ve done to their followers in places like Ohio. I get that there’s some liability from the people to not believe everything they’re told from the right but most of these people aren’t diverse or very intelligent, the right preyed on that fact.
Every two years they vote Republican no matter what. Over half of that list are employed/retired from public education.
No. He liked a tweet from a mother of an immunocompromised kid explaining how there’s no such thing as “living your own life” and that she hopes everyone is responsible so her son can make it to next Christmas. Assuming a like meant agreement, that’s a pretty solid showing of empathy. I guess you’re assuming that he was infected by some fault of his own?
But he was lying. He held multiple maskless rallies in the last several months alone. There is plenty of photographic evidence.
I read through his timeline, and while he was still definitely a Republican who had some pretty awful positions, he wasn’t a full throated psychopath that a majority of Republican candidates were this year. I do think he was cavalier about COVID, and so I don’t know how much responsibility he bears for our current situation or his own. That being said, while going through his timeline, I did see that he has a 3 year old child and an 11 month old child and that fucking sucks. I don’t feel an ounce of schadenfreude for this.
That’s where I am. And, as someone who has been very careful but still ended up with COVID, I know that it’s not as simple as only asshole deniers get it.
I’m not making any objective value judgments, just that he was not near the Marjorie Taylor Greene/Lauren Boebert lunacy from what I saw.
I spoke with our chief medical officer yesterday about this. She said the CDC guidance is to wait 90 days, but that is not due to any contraindications. She also said that protection from the vaccine will likely outlast natural antibodies, but that was just her speculation. She said provided you’re out of quarantine, it’s your choice. She also noted that the concerns about availability don’t really matter on their end, since the vaccination numbers are much lower than they were expecting. So I’m getting the moderna vaccine today.
On a side note, I work at a stats psychiatric hospital. Reading between the lines and her email to me, they’re having serious trouble getting people to take the vaccine. They’re offering people paid time to come in and get it, sending daily emails about safety/vaccine myths, have a “red carpet” type of thing set up to get your picture taken, etc.
I am not sure what the barrier is but I think that’s the route they’re headed. We don’t mandate the flu vaccine but if you decline to get it they make you wear a mask.
I forgot where I saw it on Twitter, but it basically went People: “ok, scientists. What do we need to do to beat this virus. This is horrible” Scientist: “wear a mask, socially distance, and get the vaccine” People: “ok, we don’t want to do that”
Redav what was your experience calling to set up an appointment? did you just say “hey do you have any openings?” or what i am deathly afraid of being awkward on the phone so i wanna have my strategy fully ready
I'm in healthcare so my employer had them and opened them up to all risk tiers. No idea how that works in the general public other than contacting your local health department.
My wife was supposed to get it yesterday but they called and said they couldn’t get her in. Idk why. My wife then called a couple hospitals and said she was on hold for a few hours. Never got thru to anyone.
