I mean... he could work tomorrow and not make anyone else work. Problem solved. You should never let your lack of work/life balance dictate the lack of work/life balance for your staff, imhv
His joy is from bringing people to his level. Everyone stressed from work with no outside distraction is his happy place.
one of the reasons I chose my firm is because each partner seems to have hobbies, kids, and enjoys traveling. One of our partners left yesterday to go up into a hut in the mountains with his family. I appreciate the culture of unplugging that is promoted.
My old boss would have firm wide 7:30pm meetings on random days with no notice just because he was single and didn’t have anything to do after work
Everyone come pile on. Been working fine in MX, internet is a little slower but whatever. Settled 2 cases and billing 4-5 hours/day. My boss called on Monday, noticed my ringtone sounded like a foreign country. Ran an IP search, discovered I was sending emails from Southern Mexico. Whoops. One of the cooler partners called me, basically like dude WTF. Told me to call and apologize to my boss, which I did. He wasnt happy, but did acknowledge he lied to a prior boss about taking the bar in another state in his younger years. Was a shitty and professionally embarassing conversation, but all of my own doing. I’m not fired, but theyre not happy. I’ll be coming home a bit early (Jan 10 — still staying another week bitches). Prolly gonna start looking for a remote gig ASAP. ¡¡¡Feliz ano amigos!!!
I’ve never been fired from a job in my life, but that’s def the closest. Almost wish they would have to force my hand.
Yea I think that’s gonna be a hard pass on their part. Gonna start reaching out to some contacts on my return.
One big dick partner left the firm unexpectedly on Dec 30, so I know they need me. Nobody else knows how to navigate FXG’s bullshittttttt portal. I realize I’m expendable, but maybe not at the current time.
I guess my question is , if they don't ever ask you to come in, why does it matter? Did you mislead them regarding your whereabouts?
I certainly did not tell them I was going to MX. But I did defend myself, saying Im still working. They may have been cool with it if I was upfront, lesson learned.
I guess my point is , if they don't ever ask you to do anything around the office, then why does it matter? I guess they must have at least a minimal expectation that if they need you locally , you'll be available. Otherwise, they wouldn't care.
Do it! The partner’s gripe was, “we’re in the trucking industry, sonetimes we need to be on site at a moment’s notice.” True, but that’s happened twice in 3.5 years. Color me unimpressed. Call an IA, save the client some $$. IAs are most likely better investigators than me.
Dude I’m on your side. There has been no work that requires me to be in Seattle. Is there a chance? Yes. There’s also a chance you trip and fall tonight. 2 calls requiring a response in more than 3 years, 1 trial in 10 years...makes one a bit apathetic. Dont chruch it up, Dirt. We’re glorified adjusters
Lol. Maybe this is a sign you should be moving on for quality of life purposes. Sorry you got burned.
While embarassing and pretty uncouth, substantively my work product has not been effected. RJF-GUMP and Gallant Knight start some PNW branches
Realizing I’m in NYC where the office has been effectively closed for 10 months now, I told my managing practice group partner I’d be in Tulum most of February and she said “have fun...wait, how’s the internet situation?”
Nug I would think it would be hard to find a law firm gig that will let you just work anywhere ,especially internationally.
We rotate our trucking team responsibilities. If an associate was on call and went to Mexico, I’d be furious, but only because it’s really easy to just say “I’m going out of town, can you put someone else on call?” Otherwise, I couldn’t care less.
It's pretty much impossible for the plaintiff lawyer to get there before the defense/carrier. Best I can do is immediately send preservation letters, a TRO if I wanted to be real dramatic, immediately get a trucking expert to the scene if someone called me from the scene, and immediately download the ECM.
I worked from home over thanksgiving (in Nashville) and I asked the firm if it was okay. All the partners thanked me for asking, but I’d been so pissed if any objected. Like, bruh, we can only have 2-3 people in the office anyway and I’ve been remote for 7 months. And all hearings are virtual. I can see them being a little irked if I did not let them know
I’m hopeful, honestly no idea what my opportunities will be. Let me do evals, report on disc, draft updates to adjusters. That’s more than 90% of my job. Nobody likes doing that bullshit, lemme do it from anywhere
morgan adams is one of the two or three best trucking lawyers in the country and he moved to Seattle and opened an office there. So what I’m saying is themainboardlaw, LLC sounds like a winner
Yah I remember seeing Morgan Adams at some conferences, have gotten his advice on a trucking case before, probably came across as a fanboy.
One of my biggest nightmares is a YouTuber/internet celebrity coming around with my name and taking up all of my google results.
If you are a standoffish unfriendly man, and you are seeking legal advice from a bunch of smartasses from the internet, Themainboardlaw, LLC will fight for you, or maybe heckle you.
I just got laid off so this opportunity couldn't have come at a better time. P.s. if you need to reach me I will be in Mexico until further notice.
FUCK Morgan Adams. Ive had 3-4 cases since he moved up here, he is trying to corner the Pltf trucking cases up here. Such a pain in the ass, on EVERY matter. But he is smart and a good lawyer.
What is the best way to get zoom on your big TV in your conference room? We have vizio smart tvs. I was hoping you could just download Zoom from their app store but doesn't look like you can. How are yall doing it? Would be nice to have clients in the conference room during these zoom depositions and have OC on the TV screen.
I have a Macbook air I could screen mirror with . Was hoping there was a way to do it without having to bring a computer into the equation.
Vizio tv likely has airplay. Position computer, iPad, iPhone around where the TV is (so webcam faces participants), then airplay to the TV
Welp, one of my partners has COVID and my other might as well. Guess I’m going to get tested in the morning.
