This is DBL dying on a hill in real time. I know him fairly well so, yes, I am pretty sure he’s telling me the truth, but carry on.
As a Urban hater, I wanted him to coach the Lions. Either he turns them around and I'm happy, or he fails miserably and I get to watch him be miserable before he inevitably resigns before the end of year 2.
Are Pete Carroll, Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer the only coaches to win a National Championship and Super Bowl? I’d edge JJ over Carroll for better personally but can see arguments for either. Winning with two college programmes and a NFL team would be unprecedented. Good chance for Meyer to boost his overall legacy. He’ll never get near Saban in college terms so this is his chance. Jags are a good option when you look at it. AFC South is a good division to be over the next 2-3 years imo.
I mean, he kind of has to say that since it looks shitty on him if he's been talking to another coach before the season is even over and they've only just parted ways with Marrone. Whether it's Urban or anyone.
He later clarified to say that he just wants to be involved with who gets contract extensions and other issues like that.
I do. He'd be the highest paid coach in the NFL. In the big picture a few million more for the guy you want isn't a huge deal but that doesn't change my opinion that he shouldn't be the highest paid HC in the league.
I like the possibilities for Urban, would love to see him succeed in Jax, but what ground does he have to stand on for the demand, if the report is true?
it's right in line with what the top guys get. it took $100M to get Gruden back into coaching. if you think Meyer is going to take an NFL job for some mid-level salary you're being naive.
the ground for the demand is that he is the person in demand. either pay him or don't. he's not asking them if he can coach the Jaguars.
I found this but it admits some of the numbers have conflicting reports. https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl...oaches-2020-salary/1rvqdfp8aswj016sqey1b06r2e
Being an NFL coach sounds sooooooo much better than being a college coach. Higher pay, no recruiting, no boosters and alumni.
It used to be that the NFL was where you got fired after a few years, and college was where you could be for a long time. That's not really the case anymore. Also, and I'm thinking of Harbaugh specifically here, it would probably be nice if not everyone knew exactly how much money you were making. Or, at the very least, that fewer people cared.
I don't think you added enough o's. Not having to jump through hoops because of NCAA rules. Being able to actually develop players because you're allowed to spend more than 20 hours a week with guys in season. Not worrying about guys meeting academic eligibility requirements. Etc
Lol leaders of men Not having to deal with boosters or the running of the gumps types would probably be the best difference. Can't imagine how much it would suck to be coach at a school like Bama or Texas
Pretty crazy. And not doubting his college resume, but he’s won as many NFL games as I have. We’ve seen college coaches make this jump before and crash and burn. $12M for a first time NFL coach seems absurd.
