Iron Gold is very much an in between book. Dark Age is a return to form and maybe my favorite of them all.
Yup. When I first read Iron Gold I was kind of disappointed. Dark Age is amazing and makes IG so much better. There were a lot of things set up in IG that paid off in DA that I didnt realize the first time I read IG
200+ pages into Dark Ages and it's been nothing but war. Really good and really impressive the detail that was put into the battle. That had to have taken a ton of notes and charting.
Didn’t realize there was additional books in this series until last week. Started rereading the series this week and just about half way through red rising. Forgot how muncy fun these books are and I cannot wait to get to the new material
I'm in the middle of the 5th book. I plan on re-reading the 1st book only, before the 6th book comes out. A lot of the characters have been around, and we're 1st introduced, at The Institute. Think it'll be cool to see them at the beginning.
Same. The only books I’ve ever re-read are Expanse and Red Rising. Can’t wait for the next in both to reread the series. It will be the last in both
Just got through book 2. Forgot how well both books end but also how frustrating it would have been to have to wait. That end of the second book is so great. Looking forward to #3 bc i remember loving this one in particular. And can’t wait to read the new ones
of the entire series, Golden Son was my fav and that ending left me shattered and dying to know what happened next
thanks for posting the update! I'd rather him take his time and get it right than mess up this last book
Agreed. I kinda thought(hoped) he'd been mum because he was done but was waiting to publish until book tours returned.
I don’t care if it takes a little while to release good material. But going AWOL for a decade or more and never talking about your progress is a different thing entirely.
Im reading this book about the history of the middle ages. There were these two Russian princes that fought and lost to the Mongols. The Mongol generals wrapped them up alive in rugs and nailed them under the floor boards of their yurt where their dinner table sat. Sounds familiar...
Pierce often posts about what he’s reading while he writes. He does a lot of history reading so it wouldn’t surprise me.
Considering he wrote a good portion of the book and then scrapped it because it didn’t feel right, and 5 books so far, I’ve got 100% faith.
I bet he pulled a GRRM and the next book got way too long and had to split it into 2 But he actually delivers books
Not gonna read any comments but I just started the audiobook and 22 champters in and I really like it so far. I’m usually a magic fantasy kinda guy but this has be hooked. Very hunger games vibes so far. Hate shield
The first 2/3rds of the first book is very hunger games and feels a little too tropey. Then it takes off.
Think I’m about 2/3 way through. And I have enjoyed it but I never read hunger games but in the back of my mind I’m like this is just a game and shit is gotta get real weird after this. Currently waiting to put the kid to bed bc I just got to the part where Spoiler darrow calls out the jackal after faking getting drunk. Curious how this plays out with him being the emporia son
Spoiler just finished book 1. I did think sevro dad was dead and the Apollo kill was just great. I saw the mustang twists coming. Didn’t know exactly how but knew she was something to the jackal. I also kinda wanted her to actually betray him bc a epic battle was about to come but get he didn’t do it. Bet he wrote a couple different ways. Sevro is G and hope I see more of him and suspect I will since he edited the bloody word out. Cassius and Darrow gonna be a good storyline. Rip pax. Btw the audio book song at the end is great. I felt the exact same as Darrow at the end. I got so invested in the book and the real war hasn’t even started.
Spoiler: Book 2 done Very different than book one and I kinda knew the ending bc I accidently started book 3 instead of book 2 in audible so I knew the jackal killed his dad but was still suprised by the ending. I’m still not sure how he found out even though he said he knew since (forgot the time). I really liked the battle and how they don’t waste time and just time jump to the next week when action is happening but made it kinda hard to track the years. I wish they did a better job explains the ships. Maybe I missed it but calling a ship a man of war doesn’t do much for me. I guess I at-least knew it was fucking huge. But all the small ships didn’t get explained. Love Darrow, was crushed when Virginia left, holding out hope Cassius and him rectify in book 3 and for some reason think they will. Goblin being half red was not a twist I saw coming. I’ve started book 3 and jackal is ducking evil. 9 months in solitary getting nutrients pumped to him. Oh yeah him breaking out the duel with Cassius was awesome. Truman
Ok halfway done with book 3. Do I buy the other books. I have 3 audible credits I need to use. Plan on reading most metal after I finish this.
It's 2 trilogies. The last book comes out in May. So if you want read it straight through, wait until closer to may. If you dont care about not waiting, get the other books.
Working my way through these. On Iron Gold. It's such a slog to read. I could not put the first two down and this one I can barely finish a chapter before I put the book down.
Spoiler: Book 3 finished kinda. Cassius Cassius a few moments later jackal may be up there with worst pieces of shit in book history. Fuck that dude
