And I would qualify anyone who's below a 1.0 as a "great" golfer in the entire scheme of things. Reason is because if you're a 0.something to a +0.something then you can legitimately call yourself a "scratch" golfer and I've always considered that pretty great.
So I play the same very short course a lot so I don’t put much stock in my single digit handicap. But anytime someone asks me if I’m good at golf I always say not really but I play a lot and can have some good days.
I’m a 14 and feel like the biggest piece of shit on the planet most days I play. I also assume most fives and below feel only incrementally better as this is game for mentally ill people.
I shot a 63 Monday and didn’t even hardly enjoy it. I can just think about the shots I threw away. (Old 5900 yard muni, par 70 with slope of 67).
Did the Lisa Cornwell episode get nuked? When I try to download it now it says URL not found Edit - it's available on Spotify
I feel like a lot of 4-5 handicaps I encounter are guys that were scratch/+ when they were younger but don't play/care as much anymore.
Like anything, it’s all relative to your experience. A PGA pro calling a 5 handicap a bad golfer can be legit bc all he sees everyday is tour guys. It’s nothing for me to drive 2-3 hours to see accounts for work and then drive 2-3 hours back home. So long drive times just don’t equate to me. My neighbor complains when we’re talking about getting food and he thinks 15 min down the street is to far away. My normal group of guys I play with think I’m a great golfer and I range from 78-85 when we play. As long as you’re out enjoying the game that frustrates the crap out of us is all that matters.
He's such a good guy. I've played a couple of rounds with him at his home course here. Extremely impressive to watch
Clearly some of you didn’t play what my friends and me called “challenge golf”. Back in college we would play that and the rules were you could do anything but touch the other player and interfere with their swing. Once you approached the ball you had 5 seconds to hit. You couldn’t back off. We would have guys screaming, pissing by your foot, rolling balls past you, cracking jokes. One guy would grab the flagstick and twirl it over your head while putting. It sounded like a helicopter right above you. Really made you focus on just your shot. Now when I play I feel like Kevin Costner in For Love of the Game and I “clear the mechanism”.
Love Kapalua, one of the best sporting event television experience of the year. Especially because it is in the butthole of winter here.
IrishLAX2 any prediction/hearing anything on the 2022 PGA? Have to think they pull the plug on Bed monster and just swap in another NYC area club?
I haven’t heard anything in particular, but gotta figure Bethpage would be willing and able to handle it with a little lead time.
They’re in the middle of a renovation, so I imagine they’ll let latch grow in on the greens before they hold another major.
Cantlay with a nice “can’t hit it hard enough on any fucking hole” after missing a putt and Terry says “welp that was a little clearer than we’d like it to be”
Anyone have any good lag development drills? I've got a serious casting issue that I am trying to work out in the offseason. I set up a net and a mat in the garage.
i have the same issue. Finally hitting from the inside but I’ve started dumping the club to get there.
We had a huge trip planned out there for the end of April last year...kinda depressing to watch the tournament tbh.
All the player/caddie convos that we’ve been getting to listen to more and the mics all over are probably coming to an end https://golfweek.usatoday.com/2021/...omx0jaBrd6CzVLJN7ntvVOuGFHXyBo3nE0MoLN-a7KsJU
My friends are assholes and will always be talking when I’m teeing off. No special game just assholes.
I've got one friend who used to always stand right on top of whoever was on the tee and start to step in before we'd even finish the swing.
