before I got hurt I wasn’t so much an output hardo but a mileage whore. Since that I have become more of an all around athlete. I try and do more strength and yoga classes. It keeps me from putting up the numbers I used to. Also bike bootcamps not counting towards miles hurts my numbers. But, I like it the way I am now more. I feel like I am in better shape over all than when I strictly focused on cycling.
I thought about getting the bottom one but 40 for the top one during tmb Black Friday was too good to pass up.
For me I use the PZ guidelines. I am still waiting on our second bike and haven’t been able to bike as consistently so my performance is dropping a bit. But after having the zones, for classes I am trying to achieve a PR I spend most of the time in zone 4 and touch zones 5 and 6. Like most I think I try and use the cadence they give and then match resistance to the zone I am hoping to ride at.
Non bike question for the thread. My back will tighten up on me occasionally from sitting all day at work and then from sitting with shitty posture on my couch. I’m also generally very inflexible. What classes would be best to fix this? Yoga, stretching? Both? And I’ve never done any sort of yoga before so are there certain types of classes I should look out for?
What is the subscription service cost for these? I see the app is like $12/month, is that all? Or is there like a $50/month fee to get all the programs?
Might be a hot take, but did the Top 2020 songs with Kendall yesterday. Usually I don’t mind her classes, but she might have been on too much pre workout or something lol she was talking the whole time. Sometimes I just want to ride/focus on the music, I don’t need the constant chatter.
I enjoy Tunde's HIIT rides. Kendall is normally good, although she is chatty. Alex 30 minute hip-hop is always enjoyable. Jess King is wild and makes longer rides fly by. And Emma Lovewell is classic, never annoying. Those are generally who I ride with.
Tread+ was supposed to be delivered today according to 2 confirmation emails. After zero communication, I finally got in touch with customer support only to be told that it’s not coming today and they don’t know when it is. But here’s $100 credit for your trouble. Fuck you, I took off today to take delivery of this equipment. Incredibly frustrated with peloton right now.
Is a climb ride basically just a lot of out of the saddle work at a higher resistance? I’m still learning what “type” of classes I like more than others.
Yeah mine is supposed to be this upcoming Thursday (ordered 11/14). Guessing no chance and going to try and be proactive. Know someone who had the same thing that happened and Peloton told him minimum 5 week delay.
Yeah, now wait times of 10+ weeks are being quoted for the Bike, Bike+, and Tread+. Also, the new lower priced Tread comes out soon which could eventually be their number one product, so they’re scrambling. They’ve been air freighting bikes from Taiwan to try and keep up, but I think demand just keeps going up. It’s great for those of us holding stock (to a point), but it sucks for those getting deliveries pushed back. I hope y’all get a resolution soon.
I always love my older brother sending me his new zones. Especially since his zone 1 ends near the top of my zone 3 at 172 since he is a freak of nature.
Could use some help, my dad has a big milestone coming up and he’s an avid cyclist. He wants to get a trainer and a Zwift set up and I’d like to surprise him with one. Not being a cyclist idk if this is possible to shop for someone else. He has a couple road bikes but said he wasn’t sure about using them as the trainer. Is there a good resource I could use to figure this all out?
If you don't mind spending a good bit, get the Wahoo Kickr. https://www.wahoofitness.com/devices/bike-trainers
Haven’t been in the thread much and didn’t work out much the last few weeks due to holidays, some family stuff and being sick. Back in the saddle today.
I'm back at it today too. We've been having great weather so I've been on the mountain bike for the last several weeks. Planning on at least 60 minutes this afternoon.
Sorry if this topic has been tread over before, but do you guys do pre-workout before going on the bike? And what is TMB's take on pre-workout in general - one of my friends who is super into fitness says there's a lot of super shitty preservatives and things in there that are really bad for you, so just stick to a bit of caffeine before working out if you need something.
Doing a low effort spin before getting into a Peloton workout/class is recommended. Do one of those scenic rides for 10-15 minutes. The amount of time they allow in the classes for spinning up and cooling down is laughable if you are looking to make really good improvement.
I thought as much as well but getting your legs actually ready to pull huge efforts does more than caffeine imo. Caffeine is temporary. When it wears off you can bonk. Getting your muscles geared up for battle is good.
Yeah one of he running instructors talks about how it takes your body 10 minutes of discomfort and pain to enter performance mode.
What do you mean “pre-workout”? Stretching? Warm ups? Food? I think they (stretching and warmups) are important. As for food unless you’re doing a long or intense workout I don’t think you need it but for me a banana or two and an ensure would be good on half marathon or full one days.
I’ve said it many times before, but Andy Speer is the worst Peloton instructor in any discipline, and it’s not even close. The fact that they feature him the way they do is mind boggling.
This. I don’t see that being necessary. I suppose you could use them occasionally if you’re going for a PR, but if you’re riding multiple times a week like many in this thread it just seems like a bad idea. You’d be consuming a lot of bullshit and I’m not sure what purpose it would serve.
Poor guy has the personality of a post. Also his music is typically super shitty. I usually mute him and turn on spotify.
While we’re talking bad music, I have to say it again... Wilpers playlists are just complete dogshit. They’re almost offensively bad. Every time I go looking for a 60 minute power zone class I get pissed off all over again. The total lack of good 60 minute classes is my biggest (and maybe only) gripe with Peloton.
