Any experience here with the pit boss? I literally went to buy the gmg Davey crockett today, but when I saw it in person I realized it's just too small Almost bought a gmg Daniel Boone choice, but I literally couldn't get anyone in the fancy grill store to pay attention to me so I left Went to another place and the only had the boone prime, which is twice as expensive and I've read bad stuff about the new prime line Talk me out of buying this pit boss, gunna be across the street from a Wal mart in about an hour
I do not, sorry. I've heard of them before, no experience though. Looks like its more bang for your buck than a Traeger and the warranty is 5 years vs. 3 years (Traeger). Here's a review I just read on it: https://www.burningbrisket.com/pit-boss-austin-xl-review/
Not really many opinions on the pit boss? Kinda scared me off Spoiler I'll probably go buy it in the morning Spoiler Meh, probably not The big thing everyone gives it negative marks about is only 50 degree increments on setting temps I feel like that would eventually annoy me, especially when doing stuff like making sausage , which is one of the main things I have been thinking about a pellet smoker for
On a different note, I just got a boos block this week, got it all oiled up and pretty Getting ready to cut some meat up to make jerky this weekend, and I don't think I can bring myself to use the boos It's too pretty, I don't wanna scratch it
Depending on exactly what kind of sausage you are doing, but summer sausage is like....... stuff in casings then overnight in fridge, take out and let raise to room temp (75 or so) internal, then smoke at like 100, then 120, then 140, then 160, then 180 at 1 hour intervals leaving at 180 until internal temp hits 153 It's a hell of a process
Gonna keep looking for a deal for you with that temp control and you send me some sausage ok? Deal. Cool.
I realize, none of the pellet units have temp controls that roll below like 150 But I got that part figured out Done several batches with my super cold smoke unit and then transfer to my big war wagon, but damn yall, keeping the war wagon down to 160 to 180 degrees is a workout I built that thing to cook 10 + briskets at a time at 250 or whatever Keeping it cooler by still smoking for 10 pounds of sausage just seems wasteful
This one has got pretty good reviews. I’m sure you’ve already seen it. Green Mountain Davy Crockett Sense Mate Electric Wi-Fi Control Foldable Portable Wood Pellet Tailgating Grill with Meat Probe, Black
I literally went to a grill place in austin today to buy this grill Read a bunch of stuff about it online, people saying it was perfect for rvs etc and fits one brisket perfectly Store I went to, I found the traeger tailgater first and I was kind of shocked how small it was, and everything I had read told me tje cooking surface of the Davey crockett was less than the tailgaters Found the gmg Davey crockett display and lol, it's smaller than my dehydrator I literally couldn't fit my forearm making a fist to elbow in it at an angle, and that's a good judge size of a brisket I laughed and decided I was going to buy the gmg Daniel Boone select they had for like $500 Walked around trying to get the attention of the salesman.... two of whom were busy selling a lady a gas grill, the other who was behind the counter promptly jumped to help a guy that walked in the door as I was looking for help So I walked out
I have a Rec Tec and my mom bought a Pit Boss. The Pit Boss is ok but it doesn’t have a lot of the features mine had and the couple of times I’ve cooked on it the temperature fluctuates a lot more than mine. That being said it’s not bad for the price point but imo if you’re going to invest in a pellet grill go big
How should I treat spare ribs vs baby backs? I’ve got some spare ribs defrosting in the fridge since I left for work at 5:45 am A few weeks ago for my first cook I did two racks of baby backs between 250 and 275. One wrapped and sauced and one foiled dry with more rub. Both were great, but I did have a lot of beers and it was my first smoke. I’ve read further people here like to just go straight and not wrap at all. So think I might try that with the spare ribs.
Lady at Lowes told me just a couple of days ago that they just got in a bunch of brand new models of cookers, including z grill and pit boss stuff that's all new Now I know why Walmart has dropped the price on that pit boss New pitboss pro with wifi and Bluetooth in 850 sq in model is $499 1200 sq in model is $599 https://www.lowes.com/pd/Pit-Boss-Pro-Series-850-sq-in-Hammer-Tone-Pellet-Grill/5000183179
Egg is 8 years old and over the last year the band has been getting loose and sliding so that it didn't close perfectly. I've been tightening it weekly but today it got out of place and I opened with too much for which did that
