Now you made me go and pour a WP 15yr Rye. It's so fucking good. I don't have a ton of high end ryes, but this is my favorite I think.
maybe we should stop putting WP on the bad list and move it to neutral at least. I get that it is pricey, but I do think they are easily one of the top rye producers.
As everything increases in price, WP looks less ridiculous. Especially as the higher aged distillates become increasingly harder to find. At $70 for 15 years it’s a no brained for a good pick.
I budget $100 per month to spend on whiskey. It forces me not to overcrowd my 1400sqft house. Doing a flip like this I see as increasing my monthly budget by 50%. If I owe anyone bottles, it’s you. If I can get them, I certainly will, but I’m afraid they’re sold out.
i had a difficult time finding most of these, except the jack daniels. i ended up impulsively buying some 'Russell's Reserve Private Barrel Selection'
The label says it’s a 10 year product so it’s sold under that label at or close to that labels price. But it’s a barrel pick and WP offered barrels as old as 17 years to be bottled under that 10 year label.
That Russell’s is a barrel picked by the store, that’s generally a good thing. Let me know how you like it, it’s one of my regular favorite daily drinkers.
it has a lot of flavor, it's not subtle i could see where this is appealing for ppl who drink a lot of bourbon and start to get bored with it and want something that's just has *more* flavor without resorting to gimmicks.
I mean so theoretically there are single barrel bottles out there already from warehouse c but without the label, am I wrong?
Theoretically you’re correct. I doubt standard EHT is 10 years since they don’t call it out, so this may be a little older, but if that’s the only difference from the standard stuff and considering last year’s was an 18yr blend of 3 different mash bills, that’s pretty lame
Leeroy Jenkins! is a lover of armida, I haven’t tried it yet because I’m of the opinion that pears are just shitty tasting apples.
I'm over the secondary market and the BT stuff. Has become so inflated and allocated that I'm fine just finding normal ass shit at the local store that still tastes good.
Pears are delicious. Pear brandy is also delicious. Bourbon finished in pear brandy casks must be delicious.
Redwood Empire Lost Monarch is getting a lot of positive buzz right now. Just tasted it for myself and that’s a real tasty bourye for $35. I’d even say it’s p1 list worthy.
gotcha, Durham has some nice stores (at least compared to other counties). I go to the one on 55 quite often and the new store on Roxboro is huge.
How it started (last 1/9) my first purchase a bottle of Michters small batch How it’s going (I didn’t wade in slowly) Thanks to Earn_Marks Leeroy Jenkins! pperc NYGator g8r TheBabyShrimp BrickTamland helping me track down bottles and of course my fellow bourbon noob Degausser. This thread is an awesome community and looking forward to the next year.
We need to up your rye game. Also need to get you at least an antique, possibly CYPB and single barrel but I think they’ve gotten ridiculous.
