Obviously not a good look for JT but this changes nothing. He immediately apologized after the round. He'll have to keep being super sincere and apologetic for the next month whenever anyone brings it up.
so you think players are going to be good with mics picking this shit up and nothing will change? I hope you’re right, but we were getting closer and closer to mics on caddies or something of the like and i can’t see that happening anymore
Well JT was the one most outspoken against it so maybe this was all intentional so avoid going down that road
Reed said something very similar, if not worse, a few years back and it hasn’t been an issue since. JT has also said before that he’s not interested in wearing a mic or anything along those lines because he didn’t think people should be able to listen to all the stuff in between shots. Hopefully this is a very isolated incident but I don’t think it’ll have any long term effect on guys and mics
I think a lot of the players wish there were less mics but the players aren't in charge of that. Also this isn't the first time something like this has happened. The article says as much but no, I don't think this will result in any major changes.
I don’t understand how there isn’t a 10-second delay and someone with a dump button available for the entire broadcast. How hard is that?
Yup. Cantlay and Rahm got the profanity clips this week and nothing would have came of it. But if a Top 3 player in the world loses a sponsorship over what was caught on a player mic I think the player push back on them would increase heavily.
Drop that word from your vocab, JT. I have after using it to greet my brothers for years. Fan of leaving the mics, but a delay on the broadcast too
I think, secretly, they like the "humanization" of these guys the mics bring. Hearing the players cuss, say funny comments, or have bad body language after bad shots makes them more relatable to the average golfer on the course and gets social media views. What JT said isn't on that same spectrum. That's something you just can't say, mics or not.
Agree with all the above. Can’t say that and would really suck if top players in the world move towards no mics
Totally agree that it is unacceptable to say, period. But I’m still stunned they don’t have a producer with a dump on the ready.
Agree with the humanization aspect. It’s funny, I disliked JT prior to the Tiger course event. Mostly his face I guess. But hearing him interact in that event he came across genuine and someone I’d love to play with. This incident won’t completely flip my opinion - I’ve certainly used that word before, but I grew up. His statement was as good as it could be I suppose.
“There’s just no excuse. I’m an adult, I’m a grown man. There’s absolutely no reason for me to say anything like that,” Thomas told Todd Lewis. “It’s terrible. I’m extremely embarrassed. It’s not who I am. It’s not the kind of person that I am. But it’s … unfortunately I did it and I have to own up to it and I’m very apologetic. as there’s a drive into deep left field by Castellanos that will be a home run and so that’ll make it a 4-0 ball game"
PGA officially moving away from Trump Bedminster. He tried so hard to buy a major and couldn’t get it done.
Was there over the holidays. The caddies seemed to think it would be very limited in terms of numbers, if they allow any at all. It’s also not a very accessible venue for fans.
Apparently they planned on selling like 10x more tickets this PGA compared to the previous one, so even if it’s at 10% the crowd sizes may be similar. They all were in shock about the planned amount of tickets wanting to be sold and couldn’t figure out how it would even be possible without Coronavirus.
Never understood people getting mad for something knocking their ball off line when you see it beforehand and could of moved/fixed it.
He needs to sell Turnberry. My favorite course in the world and needs to be hosting The Open on a regular basis.
Yep, if anything it just confirms the speculation that Trump purchasing Turnberry most definitely kicked them out of the rota.
Got the urge to go try out some new drivers and possibly spend the Christmas gift cards. I can’t stress the benefit of getting fitted. The guy I worked with put me in an extra stiff 70g shaft and 9 degree loft. Amazing how much more accurate the drives became. He did tell me the Sim2 from Taylormade will be coming out in a few weeks so I should wait to try it and see what that does for the pricing on the Sim. Think I’ve narrowed it down to the Sim and Ti3.
I’ve really been enjoying the takes of people on Twitter saying they are done with the PGA tour after taking away the PGA at Bedminster
There’s gotta be a screenshot somewhere. It was something along the alines of Trump should schedule an opposite field event with a larger purse the week of the 22 PGA Championship and players would all choose that event over the major
