I don't have any clue on how to react if we hired Fitzgerald. I think he's a clown, but people in the NFL have talked about him being great for years so maybe I'm the idiot. I just don't see what people think sets him apart from other college coaches in that way.
no clue man, I’m just speculating maybe he said he wanted control over roster moves, he wanted Rod Wood to be fired, or said he wasn’t interested. Only person reporting that is some douchebag for the Houston Chronicle. How the hell would he know why it didn’t go well?
I'm not convinced the Lions know what a good interview even looks like. No way anybody can convince me Matt Patricia "interviewed well" and Saleh didn't.
Aaron WIlson is pretty good with info, generally, and does a lot of national stuff even though he's never had a national gig. He's the guy who is more on top of undrafted FAs than anyone every year, so he's got good contacts among teams and agents.
Because he's the one who reports the deals more than others? I'm sure Schefter could but probably doesn't care. Either way Wilson is connected around the league and it wouldn't be a shock if he heard some insight into our search from an agent or some other contact.
Ireland would be an even bigger one. Not only is he a failure as a GM, he's an asshole that players won't sign with. Would be a worse combo then Quinntricia For reference Ireland is the guy that asked Dez Bryant if his mom was a prostitute and encouraged Incognito's bullying of Martin
Why i didn't get excited when we canned the last staff, because I knew who was in charge of hiring their replacements...
Haven’t been paying as much attention as others in this thread, but it is assumed that Saleh botched the interview and won’t get the job? He was my relatively uninformed pick.
I'm in on Bowles for coach depending on his plan for offense. He's one of the best DCs in the league, is by all accounts a great personality/leader, and the Jets were a dumpster fire when he was there. I'm out on Ireland as GM, though, and I really don't understand how Spielman/Wood can preach culture to that extent and then hire Ireland with his track record in Miami. I'm hoping they were always planning to talk with Bowles, but it's not hard to connect dots between Ireland interviewing yesterday and suddenly they're requesting a Bowles interview today.
Killing time before this next game, it appears Riddick and Bowles were together in Philly for a year or so. I don’t think Bowles is truly connected to any GMs but it’s fun to speculate.
I would imagine that if we don’t hear about requests for any of the Seahawks guys or someone like Ed Dodds today, that we will have a new GM by middle of the week.
Seems like the first round of interviews should conclude by midweek. I imagine a GM hire is made by Wednesday, and then 2-3 finalists do in person interviews with the new GM.
No clue if Dodds would take the job. He's probably the got the highest regard around the league (along with maybe Paton) of anyone we've interviewed. That would seem like it could be a good thing for Saleh, too, since they worked together in Seattle. A Saleh/Dodds duo would seem like our best case scenario in terms of how they're viewed around the league. Bevell would be the other guy he's worked with, I believe.
I think it was Breer who had something about the Panthers today that made that search seem kind of weird. Either they're going the analytics route, or with someone like Ireland. If I had to guess, Dodds being willing to interview is a decent sign, but he's still probably going into it with a lot of skepticism and won't actually take the job (if offered) unless it's everything he's looking for.
Dear Lions Fans, Don't wear yourself out on this search. We'll be doing this again in 3-5 years. Best regards, Reality
At the very least, she seems much more willing to be involved than her parents. Granted, part of that is she's not 95 years old or whatever Martha is and WCF was before he died (which is weird to think considering she's 70).
From Breer • Two strong names on the GM circuit: Minnesota’s George Paton and New Orleans’s Terry Fontenot. Paton has emerged as a prime candidate for the opening in Detroit, and there are plusses all over the place on that one for the Lions—one would be his background with the Spielman family, with Chris now in a prominent role in the Detroit organization. And my sense is he’s in very good shape and may even be the leader for the Denver job, too, which would bring him closer to his West Coast roots. Meanwhile, Fontenot has really been at the top of Atlanta’s list for over a month, and stands a good chance of going wire-to-wire and landing the job, while also having impressed both Detroit and Denver. • Pay attention to Colts assistant GM Ed Dodds’s name popping up in Detroit—as reported by the Detroit News’ Dave Birkett. Dodds is very high on 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh’s list, and Dodds’s name did come up during Saleh’s interview. That the highly-regarded Indy exec was a late add in the interview process would at least indicate there’s a post-interview level of interest from the Lions in hiring Saleh. And if Paton lands in Denver, maybe even more so. • One last thing to file away on this front: Paton’s name is interesting in that it’s been connected to Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald. To be clear, I have no idea when Fitzgerald would be ready to make the leap to the NFL. But I do know NFL people love him, and the idea that Paton could put Fitzgerald in play for you, either now or down the line, might be a nice side benefit to a candidate who’s widely considered a top-of-the-league evaluator on his own merits.
Sounds like Fontenot Atlanta, Paton Denver, Detroit Dobbs if Dobbs accepts. Hopefully Dobbs is the first shoe to fall to Detroit.
I'll gladly take Devonta Smith and let Golladay walk if they don't go QB route or all top QB gone when we pick. This kid is special
