What’s this threads take on the Watson/Tua trade rumors? Watson for both this years 1st round picks (maybe 2nd too) and Tua. Is that something people would want or nah? Watson obviously a proven commodity, but the offensive weapons around him would still suck without FA signings
I love Watson as a player...but I think the price and the consequences would be too much We have a shit ton of draft capital and cap space. You would basically be giving up all of that for an elite QB, but be back to being stuck with CFL level players at the skill positions around him
If they ask for our 2 1’s this year and 1 next year + Tua for Watson I’d do it Watson already is what we hope and pray Tua becomes
Maybe it’s just me, but I think Tua, a #3 pick, and another 1st rounder is already an unheard of massive haul.
Has full control over his next destination which would prevent a bidding war. Also, getting Tua back it a huge piece considering his signing bonus is already paid so he's dirt cheap real money wise. Meanwhile Deshaun Watson is owed over 100M in real money over the next 5 years.
I think giving up the #3 pick along with Tua would be such a bad negotiation. Like you can argue Watson vs. Tua if you want...but bring Watson and give up your ability to get the best assets around him improves......what exactly? So then throw next season in the trash as we maybe claw back to 9 wins. Then hope the year after is the competitive window? The thing is ... we have Tua. We can easily say publicly he's our guy and we are comfortable with that (and oh by the way...he can still be great as he looked plenty good this year for a recovering rookie with trash around him). So the leverage is the Dolphins. We don't HAVE to make the desperation trade like a QB is the only thing holding us back. When we have the leverage, lower the price. Don't give up the #3 pick which then amounts to Tunsil/Tua/#3 already without any further picks.
While Watson would be great, I don’t want to leverage what we have going on from both a cap and draft perspective to bring him in. Tua showed flashes, was still recovering from an injury and didn’t have any kind of normal off-season/pre-season. He was far from perfect at times, but between the above, a bad OC, having at most times 1 legitimate receiver, 3 rookies on the OL and scrubs playing RB for the most part, I give him the benefit of the doubt. We have a chance to upgrade the Offense this off-season the same way the Defense was upgraded last year. I think I’m still team Sewell if he’s there unless someone wants to trade down. If so, take a WR, then Najee and get some more picks for the future.
Dolphins need far more than a QB you have the opportunity to build a team around a QB, do that. If it fails then go get one. But don’t mortgage the future

He can absolutely make their lives difficult. Hold out during Training Camp every season/ week 8 to get the year accrued, then immediately have season ending surgery to fix a lingering issue, etc. It's the era of player empowerment. If Watson wants to play for team X, there is plenty he can do to make it happen without making that team pay an obscene price.
No. But I wouldn't be surprised the way this is going if the league finally reaches a point where like 20+ teams have legit franchise level QBs.
