Surprised at first that Randy didn't make that list. But I'm not sure who you take off the list.

This fenix vs omega match is great. That moonsault into a German suplex was insane. I’ve never seen that

Hopefully his run starts in NXT... before he's eventually on the main roster and Vince is clueless on how to use him

Speaking of NXT and Vince shitting the bed on callups.

Can we get Alister Black back on NXT. Give Vince Killian Kross. Kross is a great character, the entrance, the mic work the entire gimmick is something Vince should love and be able to use. But his work rate isn't great and I feel like every big match he's had on NXT has fallen flat in comparison to other talent. I felt the same way for Bobby Roode and Drew when they were in NXT. Those guys stuck out as main roster talent vs NXT guys.

But seriously I want Alister Black back... His return and total beat down of everyone in sight during his NXT run is one of the best moments in NXT history.

That segment has potential to lead to one of the best Cornette rants ever. It hit so many things he rants about

    1. (Undersized) women's wrestler in Alexa Bliss
    2. Said women's wrestler sharing a ring with a male wrestler
    3. People teleporting
    4. Magical powers in shooting fireballs

I know people love Dave but you got to love the sample size he picked. The fact he removed weeks from the sample size. No bias in that article. None at all.

I wish he took an honest approach and compared Covid year to date and see how all the shows have done. I would assume the WWE shows would still be underperforming AEW but unlikely to be at the clips he posted.

Lol at Dave "throwing out ratings" where WWE used legends to pop a rating but not throwing out AEW using Sting to pop a rating that was artificially high.

I think its ridiculous how much Cornette hates AEW but I do agree with him that Dave has become a stooge for them to ridiculous levels. The two of them used to be friends and hate each other now over that issue.

I will say bottom line though, I think AEW probably regardless if you mess with the numbers or not has lost less of their fan base over the year. But they also had 1/3 the fan base to start with. I've said it a few times here, AEW has a very loyal 600-850k group of fans that tune in every week. They have not gained their fan base at all since starting and seem to not be able to gain any casual fans, but they are not losing fans. WWE has casual fans, and a lot of them aren't dealing with it any more. What is WWE loyal fan base number that they can hit rock bottom at? Who knows, but I can't see them declining to the point there numbers are at AEW levels

Quick question. Are you referring to the episode in which Sting debuted? Because that’s not exactly a fair comparison to WWE promoting Legends night. No one knew Sting was debuting.

Sting is also a part of AEW roster whereas the legends were brought in for a one time pop on Raw. Sting will be a regular performer on AEW. Do you now discount any ratings from future episode that Sting appears?

I'm not trying to discount any ratings, Meltzer is.

And Ric Flair has been on raw every week since as well. If you are telling me aew doesn't do nights to pop ratings, then I think you're wrong. They have nights that are basically B level PPV on their TV program. The point is why, if you are comparing year to year ratings, are you removing any shows from the equation? Especially when you are removing more high ratings from one show than the other.

All shows advertise for rating pops. Why you get a preview to draw you in.

Flair has also been mentioned as a regular moving forward.

Sting is a regular moving forward.

I’m speaking specifically to your comparison of legends night and stings surprise debut on AEW

I just picked Sting as an example, Meltzer wanted to remove artificially popped ratings from his comparison. You don't think Sting being on TV for first time is different than him being on a regular episode going forward?

Regardless i don't want to get hung up on that because I just grabbed it as an example that it's weird Dave would pick and choose ratings to remove. Just don't remove any, or if you really want to remove every shows 5 best and 5 worst. Just seems weird to pick and choose and pick more from one show than others

Im usually down on WWE because most of the time they absolutely suck but Smackdown has been really good. Whoever is booking it is killing it. Shinsuke as a baby face is back Kevin Owens is in the main event Cesaro got a clean win over Daniel Bryant hell Big E is the IC Champ feuding with Apollo Crews. And I didn’t even mention the potential of the women. I know Roman will not give that belt up maybe ever again but still good Entertainment.

Fair enough and there isn’t a need to cherry pick for ratings. AEW has pretty consistently outdrawn nxt. Which I think is pretty remarkable in the first year.

Now can they keep it up.

Your question posed, I don’t know Dick about how ratings work. Sting wasn’t advertised for the show and debuted at the end of the show If I’m not mistaken. How can that boost the ratings in a live show? That’s an honest question if anybody knows enough to answer how that shit works.

A surprise like that gets people talking and gets the word out on social media, which lets people flip the channel over. It happened in the 90s during the Monday Night Wars, and that was before we could instantly communicate with thousands+ with just a few keystrokes.

Still, it's apples and oranges to compare a week-long advertised "Legend's Night" and an episode of Dynamite where a new debut happened and got people talking. It's a weird goalpost moving thing in some circles regarding AEW vs WWE, where the normal things a TV show does to succeed is discounted and the desperate gimmicks a show does to maintain relevance is defended.

I get that there's kind of a cult around AEW, but I think the majority of it is just ex-WWE (or wavering-WWE) fans that are happy to have a legit alternative to watch, who want it to succeed, and who think WWE has been shitty long enough that they deserve to be knocked down a couple pegs. In response to that, some WWE fans seem to revel in pointing out every minor flaw or mistake AEW does---a company that's not even been in existence for more than two years---while making all kinds of excuses for the tired, bloated, sagging, slog that is Mon-day-night-RAW.

Ok Stings second appearance in AEW may be a more accurate ratings pop but my point is the same. They did 995k his first advertised appearance. AEW did 750k or less 3 of last 4 weeks so its easy to argue that the 995k is an artificially high popped rating using Dave standard

But again I think its stupid to exclude any rating and my point is Meltzer is a huge AEW mark so it doesn't surprise me he picked more WWE shows to remove ratings from. And as I said in my very first post on the topic, I do believe regardless aew has done a better job keeping viewers, but when you start with 1/3 the viewership as raw and SD i don't think its that surprising. I see AEW between 650-900k with occasional pops for foreseeable future. They've captured an audience and that audience is loyal, but I dont think its a product thats growing or catching on with casual fans

And ill add i think tracking the ratings is stupid anyway. What does it matter if they aren't in trouble of being canceled and are making shows that you like? Content of the shows is far more important than ratings to me.

Jericho also apparently said he got covid "sometime around September", which just so happens to be shortly after he went to Sturgis.

I'm so over Jericho. One of the Bucks and Archer apparently had it as well. So I guess the sloppy shop comment, aew meant they were just better about hiding their test results

I am not sure how Meltzer got such a reputaiton as a serious journalist. He is as big a carny as anyone else.

I did see that Tony Khan is spending some of his dad's money on buying the rights to real music. Jungle Boy is going to be over huge with the marks when crowds get back with. it really gave ECW an edge back in the day.
