Called Illinois public health and they still aren't vaccinating 65+ because they are still trying to get medical staff vaccinated. That is a tremendous failure.

its wild how the entire administration has given up on dealing with a massive pandemic and addressing the vaccine rollout fiasco to instead focus on doing a coup or whining about twitter and its not the biggest story every single day. cool how normalized this shit has become

    Got this email today:
We had a discussion about Covid on agenda review. Here are a few highlights to keep you in the loop.
    1. Infections and Testing
      1. New cases in FL are soaring.
      2. XXXX is only site for testing using the PCR test. There is no longer a rapid test available. There is no longer a first responder priority line. Wait periods at this site are up to 4 hours. YYYY and Hard Rock were recommended as sites with appointments for testing that may be more efficient. It was also noted that MD Now offers the test (cost was not discussed).
      3. CARES act funding to support Emergency Paid Sick leave expired on December 31. Anyone testing positive to COVID or placed in quarantine is reliant upon their own sick leave banks to cover payroll while out of the office.
    2. Vaccines
      1. Holiday Park is offering vaccines working through the state allocation of same through Broward County FDOH. Current capacity is 500 shots per day. Each vaccinated person must be observed for 15 minutes post injection. FDOH is continuing to have web site issues as demand is great.
      2. The Florida Department of Emergency Management and Broward Health Partners (private medical group) to provide a similar capacity vaccination at Lockhart Stadium Park.
      3. Allocations of the vaccination from the state continue to be day by day and not predictable.

adults over 70 can start signing up in SC tomorrow regardless of health status. still think teachers and essential frontline workers should be first but :idk:

    Interesting notes from this

    • We estimate COVID-19 herd immunity (>70% of population immune) will be reached in the US during summer 2021 (Jun-Aug 2021). At a high level, herd immunity is a concept in which a population can be protected from a virus if enough people possess immunity.
    • At the time herd immunity is reached, roughly half of the immunity will be achieved through natural infection, and the other half will be achieved through vaccination.
    • New infections may become minimal before herd immunity is reached. But due to imported cases and localized clusters, it is unlikely that new infections will drop to zero until at least 2022.
    • Deaths may drop to low levels even earlier (May-Jul 2021), in part due to a vaccine distribution strategy that initially prioritizes high-risk individuals. Once deaths fall to minimal levels, we may see a relaxation of restrictions.
    • Summarizing the above findings, our best estimate of a complete “return to normal” in the US is mid-summer 2021 (June/July 2021).
    • We estimate roughly 80-85% of the US population (~275 million) will receive at least one dose of the vaccine by the end of 2021, with children and adolescents being the last group to receive it (late summer to fall 2021).
    • We estimate around 35-40% of the US population (~125 million) will have been infected by the SARS-CoV-2 virus by the end of 2021. That is an additional 60 million infections since mid-December 2020.
    • This translates to a final US COVID-19 death toll of roughly 600,000 (±100,000) reported deaths, or ~300,000 additional deaths since mid-December 2020.

Two questions about this that I'm not really ASKING (because I know there really isn't an answer for it), but I worry about how long immunity lasts as well as how long the vaccine offers protection.
I'm sure those two points have been factored in, but I am encouraged by the apparently low incidences of re-infection.

i know the olds and frontline people need it first but with all the issues with rollout and getting people to actually take it, i wish they would just open it up to anyone that wants one. seems like it would get a larger number of people overall vaccinated much quicker

yeah meant more nationwide. i understand vulnerable populations being at the front but strict means testing and letting doses expire or sit on the shelf like cuomo has been doing is dumb.

seems like if you’re going to mandate in-person instruction you should at a minimum vaccinate the people who actually make that happen but my state generally wants us to suffer and die

on week two of six of paternity leave and was cautiously optimistic i’d have moderna flowing through my veins when i go back

this is rosy as fuck if they think 85% of population is getting a vaccine. Not a fucking chance. Also am I missing something- if they think 70% is herd immunity and half are from infections, that’s 35%- does that mean they think 20% of those people are also getting vaccinated?

Additionally 35% of the country getting it means 115 million. We’re at like 40ish million now? That’s 75 million in 5 month or 500,000 per day. Who put this junk together

Don't feel disgusted. Everybody needs to get it. The vaccine rollout has been shitty no doubt. At this point as many arms we can stick a needle in as quickly as we can the better.

Due to my condition I was able to sign up in Dallas county. Got an email 72 hours later saying over 100,000 people like me pre registered but they only have 6,000 doses with a final “don’t call us, we’ll call you” ender.

    So it’s going great here.

Really? Do you have a link?

I looked into it and it looks like it did expire December 31, 2020:

COVID-19 Related Paid Leave Tax Credits

The bill did not extend the obligation for employers to provide paid Emergency Paid Sick Leave (EPSL) and Expanded Family and Medical Leave (EFML) beyond December 31, 2020. This means that on January 1, 2021, public employers of all sizes and private employers with less than 500 employees are no longer required to provide such benefits.

Basically the tax credit is still there, but your employer is no longer obligated to give the paid time off.

Basically your employer either doesn’t understand or is just being shitty.

Wife was able to schedule her vaccination appointment next week through work. Super excited for her but it's also a little depressing because her entire office was offered the vaccine, about 50 of them, sounds like only a handful are going to get it. Told her if they have any extras I'll be first in line if they go outside the office.

Had a patient today try to tell me Covid was a hoax literally 15 minutes after a guy who was Covid + died on me while I was doing chest compressions.

I will never understand it. Not the first time I’ve heard it in-person, but it never ceases to leave me speechless. I am exhausted, so I have no idea if this is worded awful.

The last sentence in the first paragraph says you don’t get paid if you’re forced to stay home and quarantine. Am I reading it wrong?

I’m sure my employer doesn’t understand it, but I want to make sure it’s 100% before I mention it

Yes, it literally says in the article that it’s now employer discretion.

Earlier the info posted said “CARES funding is ended” which is categorically false. The “requirement” expires, not the funding, read the third paragraph.

So they aren’t required to, but can and will be reimbursed? If the employee didn’t already use up their 10 days?

I read the article but it seems like they say it’s still allowed then say it’s not.

The last line in the pic makes me question. Why add that at the end?

Where does she work? I'm already at the point that if you're in healthcare and refuse to get it, amidst how many people can't get appointments now, then you're fired.

My wife is a caregiver for her mom that lives with us and we can't schedule any fucking appointments and her PCP doesn't have any doses yet.
