One of my friends just received a holiday gift from the Jaguars. Matching champagne flutes. Both were broken in the box. How fucking perfect is that?
Nah, Bears are in the playoff hunt, they’ll be really trying. it’s Indy sitting a bunch of starters the last week of the season that could fuck us. Them fucking us out of Lawrence, when they’ve been gifted 2 generational QBs, would be the worst.
I’d be so happy with today’s outcome if I wasn’t 100% positive we’re going to fuck everything up always.
We’re going to lose in tremendous fashion and become heroes. Evict that negativity, assholes. We’re on the goddamn precipice of the first franchise qb in this team’s history, and I’m not here for negative energy.
Is SOS that close that an Indy loss would move the Jets to 1? Edit: forgot next week is only week 16 and we play them 17
If only the rams were shittier and we could get Trevor and Pitts then spend every other dollar possible on defense.
Would rather spend it on an OL. Was crazy how excited everyone was yesterday. Probably got 100 texts.
best day of jaguars fandom since we beat the steelers in the playoffs. it seems like hyperbole, but this really could be a franchise and city changing moment. Shad will be able to milk the city dry if he actually produces a winner.
I’ve been redzoning on sundays since about week 4 so I couldn’t even tell you what unit is the shittiest. About the only thing I can tell is Robinson is a beast and Myles Jack is awesome at OLB.
What’s the scenario that they lose their playoff spot? Arizona beats them next week and Arizona is in, but I’m not seeing how the bears advance with a win either. I’m definitely fucking up the tiebreak rules because otherwise rams would have clinched at worst a 7 spot.
Corch Irving Meyers is going to have a ton of draft capital and TL at QB. It would be tough for him not to succeed in year one.
I'd like to congratulate you all on winning the Trevor Lawrence sweepstakes. I cannot wait to see how the Jags front office fucks this up.
My bad, she's on staff at OSU's college of nursing https://nursing.osu.edu/faculty-and-staff/shelley-meyer
What an amazing turn of events. Although I hate to put so much on one player, getting Lawrence could be an awesome game changer for this city. He's coming right when the Lot J development will finally get moving (as of right now, they have the votes). In the next couple years, the City and Jags will start discussing the massive stadium improvements that will be necessary to renew the stadium lease upon its 2030 expiration. Our presumptive next mayor is also a big Jags fan but not as much of a fanboy as our current mayor and will run things with greater transparency. And Lawrence is just the guy to be the face of the team. The on-field talent is amazing, but he's also a great person, a great public speaker and a humble dude. We could not ask for a better situation. Get the right GM and right head coach and throw some gas on this thing.
Hearing we may have an urban announcement sooner rather than later. Dunno if it’s the right choice but it’s at least a little exciting
Do you think that area would have been a good investment? I just don't see people going down there other than game days. Downtown is a long drive for most people. And damn we have some many things to spend money on, not sure giving money to a project for a multi-billionaire makes the list. I get that keeping him happy is good for keeping the Jags here but after the last 10 years I'd say the majority of people here simply don't care.
I'm pretty mixed but, ultimately, wanted to the project. You cannot have a flourishing city without a vibrant downtown. Daily's has been a success so I think this could have been marginally successful. Downtown is only a long drive if you have not lived in other cities. But the whole thing was bungled from the start. You cannot ask the City for $230M, where you are keeping the profits, and not submit your proforma. That's not how municipally incentivized deals work. From what I've been told, that project was not going to cost the $450M that the jaguars presented, but more like $300M. If that's the case, Khan is retaining all the profits for a $70M investment. Their proforma would have showed that discrepancy. The other issue is that Lot J would have created an absurd amount of leverage for the Jaguars in the stadium lease negotiations. The whole thing should have been presented in one package but Khan/Lenny did not want to take that approach. Khan because the dollars, from an optics standpoint, would have looed enormous. Lenny because he did not want to be the mayor that gave away that sort of cash - the next mayor would deal with the stadium lease. But fuck Lenny. He has fucked up two potentially transformative projects with his inability or unwillingness to build consensus. One ended in federal investigation and this one ended with two council people flipping on him last minute. Just a abject failure politician.
Yea giving money to owners for stadiums is bad enough. The city shouldn't be footing the bill for a project that's going to generate profits for Khan. I'm glad Curry wasn't better at getting what he wanted.
I'm fine with them splitting the costs, but it has to be a true split. Not Khan's side saying "it's going to cost $X" and just taking them at their word when every developer in the city is saying "its going to cost $X/2"
This failure is on lenny. It was a poorly negotiated deal, that was mired in controversy due to the failure to disclose so many salient terms. The city has already given khan tons of money, and the amphitheater barely looks anything like the original plans. This deal was shit and the take it or leave it approach doesn’t work when you’re asking for so much taxpayer money. The council needed to show a spine for once, or khan’s requests were only going to get larger and larger. If khan leaves over this, he had a foot out the door already.
Idk if it will work but this shouldn't be boring. Jags need excitement badly and this should provide it.
If Lawrence is the real thing, we’ll at least field an entertaining offense. It’s a start. I’ll wait on full opinion until he rounds out the GM/staff and we see how they draft after Lawrence.
