I'm oddly intrigued by many things in this story https://www.foxnews.com/us/split-am...dly-sins-led-to-alabama-mass-shooting-sheriff
Don't think the answers would be satisfying. Really dumb people that use drugs usually don't make sense.
Phil Connors please change thread title to "Huntsville - Home to Space Force" or some variant. TIA It must be a good time to be a homebuilder in Madison County.
Done. I do construction lending. I have over 20 loans under construction & working on starting 15 more.
Busiest I’ve ever seen it & COVID is slowing the whole process down. Takes fucking forever to get loans closed.
Anyone looking for a Corp/Investment banker with 10 years of experience? I gotta get the hell out of New York and miss the homeland.
A commercial property broker told me he can't find enough warehouse space in this town to accommodate the raw building materials coming in. Let's buy land and start building warehouses, guys.
glad my dad moved to Huntsville when he did. That house is gonna pay for my retirement whenever he kicks the bucket.
My neck of the woods. Just sold a house and bought another one in the area. Market is stupid right now.
There aren’t currently plans for a service academy but that would be pretty incredible. West Point Annapolis Colorado Springs New London Huntsville
I’m slightly less than an hour west and my real estate agent (friend since elementary) texted me and said he doesn’t know what I paid per square foot in 2019 but he’ll guarantee $10-$15 per square foot even if the dogs and kids have torn it up. We can’t find qualified labor at $35 an hour because bigger names are offering more money for less experience. We can’t afford to pay more. It’s an exciting time and it feels like a bubble except it’s all blue chips investing the money in this area. The lady who bought the lot across the street from me told the builder “I want there to be no question which house is the most expensive in this neighborhood, any other questions my architect can handle.” I’m the only person within a six or more house radius that is not from California, Colorado, or New England. A lot of them are on the clock to reinvest money from the sale of a house there to not pay cap gains.
I live on the road I grew up on. The house I grew up in and six other houses are all owned and rented out by someone hiding/shuffling money from sales of property in California. The kinda person who buys, super updates them, all energy efficient everything, solar panel stuff. They clearly know the tax game well. They’re all on or near the Tennessee river so I know they have to be ballers.
My brother in law is a contractor in the Huntsville area. To say he has done well in the last 20 years is way understating it. I might be envious if he wasn't a decent and humble guy about his circumstances. He knows he got lucky with the growth around the area as he got started, but this is like winning the lottery.
Rarely am I jealous of not being an investor in clients’ deals, but the tax-incentivized storage facility in Huntsville that I reviewed a few months ago is one of those times. Thing is going to print money, and I suspect most things of that nature will in Huntsville.
Congrats Huntsville, Alabamians......for now!!!! Some are apparently not giving up and think this decision has Trump's grubby little hands all over it. Anyway, will be interesting to see what happens when the new administration gets in there. https://omaha.com/news/state-and-re...f4b3f57.html#tracking-source=home-top-story-1
Here for work all week. Looking for restaurant/brewery recs. Working on a per diem that’s either $55 or $61/day, so nothing too fancy. TIA.
Pretty sure they turned the old Huntsville high school into big brewery, restaurant, etc thing. Haven't been back in years so one of the other guys will have to say if it's any good or not.
Campus 805 is a good place to start. Straight to Ale and Yellowhammer are there. There is a pizza place in Yellowhammer that is pretty solid. Food is good at STA, too. Some pretty good food options on the square: Beezr, Big Oh's, Sam n Greg's, Jack Brown. You should definitely check out Phat Sammy's. OTBX decent beer bar. Stovehouse is cool a spot to grab some food an drinks. What brings you to town? Where are you staying?
I want to try it out the next time I'm down when things are more normal. Has anyone done that rage room thing where you get to destroy a bunch of random stuff?
Thanks for the recs! I’m doing some environmental work at Redstone, so I’m staying near the Cabela’s out there. Doesn’t seem like there’s much out this way.
The arsenal is pretty cool too. I grew up here but it wasn't until the last 5-10 years that I really began to appreciate everything that goes on out there. Also, I don't know what you are doing but if you are going to be around the river there's a good chance you find some Native American stuff. People are always finding cool stuff especially after the kind of rain we have had.
Happen to be working with TRS or GSE at Redstone? My brother does a lot of geotechnical out there and the occasional monitoring wells/remediation system.
If you like bourbon, right across from you at Bridgestreet is Vintage Cigar Bar. They have an impressive selection of bourbon and a few decent craft beer selections.
Seconded Stovehouse, yellow hammer, straight to ale (campus 805) I dont think I'll be returning to Beezr. Check out Bandito Burrito, rock n roll sushi, brass tap, pane vino, super chix, there's a melt and moes BBQ downtown too. Depending on how long you're in town there's a porkchop lunch special on thursday at diamonds that is for about $10
I’ve only been to Beezr once for lunch and thought the food was pretty good. Haven’t tried the beers yet though.
Is that the one with the insane private room with lockers and stuff? We went in there once and the ventilation was unlike any cigar bar I've ever been in. You could barely smell the smoke from other people in there at all.
Dolce Pan Bakery for a solid Cubano and chorizo empanada, or one of their special Puerto Rican plates. It's right by Campus 805, but I think they're closed on Mondays. It's definitely my favorite hole-in-the-wall place in town. Hopefully they'll be blaring Puerto Rican rap so you can get the full experience.
How did I not know about this place! think lll be spending some time in HSV this summer, so will hit that up.
I was in Puerto Rico working for a couple weeks earlier this year and loved the food, so this is awesome.
