2 losses in college ends your season. So he’ll prob be able to handle about 6 regular season losses and then have a heart attack when he loses in the first round of the playoffs.
Kind of want him to cuck Shad Khan after he wined and dined him on the yacht and stay out of coaching, or better yet take another nfl job. Basically fuck Shad Khan.
The not-so-subtle reason why it has to be an NFL job he’s going for is because no kid with parents who have a modicum of common sense would trust anything Urban says in a recruiting pitch.
Parents are still actively encouraging their kids to play a sport where it's probably as likely you end up with long-term brain damage as make the professional level. Urban leaving gigs is certain to make them shy away from him!
Was really just piling onto the constant “health-related” retirement angle. Even four or five years of Urban at a school is better than 10 with almost any other coach.
He’s always mentioned the health stuff. He legitimately has a brain cyst but obviously that hasn’t been the only reason he’s left multiple times only to return shortly thereafter.
Shad is just playing the long Khan here Once he develops a relationship with Urban, he will convince him to be HC at Illinois, where he went to school
Well, I do love the Jags. They lost me for a couple years because of Coughlin and Caldwell. (A lot like the Falcons with Quinn/TD). Remember all of the local media folks(Gators) who shit on Urban for leaving UF the way he did? And now he's coming back to coach their other favorite team? That's what I'm here for. I should hit the ole 1010Xl hotline with Beef and the fellas...
Intrigued is the word I would say. If I had to bet, I think I would bet on him failing. But, he's extremely smart and will build a good organization around him. It definitely wouldn't shock me if he's successful.
Again, how will he handle losses? You need a short memory and a quick turnaround in the league or your schedule will chew you up. Unlike college, pretty much every team in the league can beat you on a week-to-week basis if you aren’t on your A-game.
Be a man and form your own opinion. Or do what everyone else on this board does and just conform to the crowd
Agree with this in the sense that Urban's competitive but not an idiot. He's not going to kill himself because his team loses some games in the NFL. I do think it's reasonable to wonder what happens if he's not succeeding and Jacksonville isn't at least a playoff team by year two, though. I think he can handle random losses. I'm not sure how he'll handle losing streaks and being bad (if they are).
I also just can't get over Urban apparently choosing Harbaugh's former GM, who famously hated Jim by the end to the point that he basically sabotaged his last season to win a PR battle so he could hire Jim Tomsula as Harbaugh's replacement.
If Meyer takes the job, I won't hate it. I'd prefer someone from the NFL, but Meyer makes it interesting and the Jags need that right now.
Always interested in college coaches going to the pros. Especially ones that enjoyed a ridiculous talent disparity in college
Why do you do this to yourself? I think there's something different about how an NFL coach connects and approaches his players than a college coach. You don't hear the "we're like a family" from NFL nearly as much as you do college...and some of that is because coaches aren't meeting these guys as 16 year olds, recruiting them for two years, watching them screw up and learn the game, and then get crushed in a game that basically ends their season, 4 games in. This, by no means, applies to just Urban...but I think college coaches inherently take losses worse. As mentioned, you also get the relief of not having to recruit(especially now).
You and I know that, the question is, does he? Urban strikes me as a very detail-oriented perfectionist, and they’re the types that see any kind of misfortune or defeat as a personal failing. Probably a big part of why he takes them so hard.
I'd be more worried about Urban handling the unique challenges of the NFL if he jumped right from a college job to the NFL. He's not an idiot though and wouldn't be giving up the cushy tv job unless he has either a. thoroughly thought through how to adapt to the NFL or b. is just the uber competitive sob we all know he is. If it is the latter there is no stopping that anyways so let him sink or swim and see how it goes. I'm sure Jax wants to drum up excitement in the franchise and sell tickets and Urban will certainly accomplish that more than an NFL assistant coach
First off, watch your tone about Beef. Second, I hate myself. In all seriousness they're mostly terrible other than when they go at each other.
