I guess I see it as people making fun of him as an individual not all people in wheelchairs. But, I’d be cool with making fun of all Nazis in wheelchairs. If I make fun of Ben Shapiro for being short I don’t see it as me making fun of LPs. I can and do separate the person from a group he/she might share a single characteristic with .
Ben Shapiro isn’t an actual little person. He’s just a regularly tiny fuckface. But that’s a good point. If Ben Shapiro was a little person, it would be fucked up to make fun of him for that trait.
His best friend falling asleep at the wheel vs them changing seats at 70 mph. And after the crash he said his best friend ran away into the woods and that a bystander had to save his life from the burning wreckage to curry sympathy. Whereas his best friend was actually the one to save his life. There’s a really good write up on his past that should be required reading for this thread and it’s shorter than the constitution. https://www.bpr.org/post/nc11-attack-madison-cawthorns-schoolmates-goes-viral#stream/0 He’s an abject piece of shit and likely should be in jail instead of Congress.
I guess I feel that being a Nazi opens you up to everything. You don’t get to be a pos ghoul and then cry and look for protection because of certain traits. Yeah Shapiro isn’t an LP but he is short as fuck and short people get shit on all the time. Is that some how out of line now? Trump is a huge fat ass are we not supposed to bring that up? Are all physical traits out of line now?
How it happened: https://www.blueridgenow.com/article/NC/20140806/News/606028457/HT What he says happened: https://www.citizen-times.com/story...-academy-creates-false-impression/3350634001/
It’s not an easy answer since life is full of nuance, but if you’re asking me if calling Trump a fatass is fat shaming, I will say of course it is. Is calling Trump a fatass as bad as calling Candace Owens an n bomb, of course not, those two situations have completely different histories and carry significantly different weights, but they’re on the same side of the continuum. For example, there isn’t a documented history of systemic discrimination against normal short people. There is for fat people/little people/the disabled/women/ etc. That’s the line. I believe I read that the head of the proud boys has some sort of non-Caucasian heritage. He’s an awful awful person. I don’t believe it’s appropriate to call him an ethnic slur just because he’s a terrorist.
If Ben Shapiro was a little person (4’10” or less) he’d lie about his height (like he does right now) and we’d make fun of him for it. And I wouldn’t feel bad whatsoever.
He fucking suuuucks. He’s also dumb as shit and is openly advocating for the government to seize private business, which is hilariously stupid.
he fascinates me. like he has absolutely nothing going on upstairs. literally everything he says is either an outright lie or something that a dumb person thinks a smart person would say if i win the lottery and no longer have to work i will devote my life to exposing his lie
We can separate the person from the disability - but what about others who are in a wheelchair? Would they read these comments and think "I this what people think and joke about behind my back?"
The guy sucks, but this articles says that there wasn't any indication they were swapping seats when the accident happened:
When you make fun of him for a disability, you're making fun of all people with that disability whether or not you intend it towards anyone else. That's why it's shitty. Not all (if any!) disabled people deserve to be made fun of for their disability. Whereas all Nazis deserve to be made fun of for being Nazis.
i would never be dumb enough to argue they’re the same thing. I’m not okay with dropping hard Rs. I am not okay with calling any person of color a racial epithet. I’m okay with calling them uncle toms, Oreos, coconuts, etc
wait, you're telling me that the self-described American history buff that misquoted facts about Lincoln, Jefferson & Madison during his primetime speech is actually an idiot that failed out of college after just 1 semester?
I will die on this hill. I am okay with making fun of Nazis for everything you can. These people hate me my wife and kids for merely existing. I don’t think I have personally made fun of him being in a wheelchair but more power to those who do.
Yep. White supremacy in North America started as the poor white reaction to some black people being wealthier than them.
Sitler is very specific to him being a white supremacist in a wheelchair. No regular person in a wheelchair is getting called sitler. Nobody makes fun of FDR’s disability because he wasn’t a piece of shit.
where do we land on dan crenshaw jokes i will never apologize i don't care how much lorne and SNL pressure me to do so
Point was that he has lied about the events that led to his wheelchair and used numerous parts of those lies to help himself get elected. More than that though I think the focus should be on the dozens of accounts of him being a sexual predator.
The line "we might be poor we might be on the margins but at least we're white" was what poors whites in the Caribbean islands ran with hundreds of years ago.
What if he’s at the grocery store right next to my step son who is also in a wheelchair? More power to people who make fun of him for being in a wheelchair?
i don’t know what you’re arguing, I have no idea if you’re agreeing with me or not. If you’re arguing that the US hasn’t put that divide up that there is no investment in whiteness in the US then I am not going to argue with you. If you’re arguing it’s not a uniquely US thing well then I agree. I didn’t say it was created here. I just attempted to answer dbl question.,
Let's frame it a different way. Most of you probably think Ben Carson is a shit person woth shitty politics. Would you call him an 'N' word? If not - why not? If he's a shitty person then doesn't he deserve any and all insults? No, you wouldn't call him that because it's an abhorrent thing to say, and completely irrelevant to why he's a shitty person. That you don't care about 'hurting his feelings' is irrelevant. Making fun of disabilities is along the same lines.
I'm not arguing anything. I was agreeing with you. The beginnings of white supremacy in this hemisphere goes back to poor whites deciding their whiteness made them superior to blacks and used it as justification for violence against blacks.
if there are two words you think are horrible, one you won’t type and one you can well the one you can’t type is worse. Dropping a hard R on a black person and saying MC doesn’t have a leg to stand on aren’t in the same universe.
We’ve had this discussion before and we won’t agree now like we didn’t in the past but here it goes again. Making a joke on here is not the same as making a joke to him in front of a kid in a wheelchair. If someone did it to him when he was alone I wouldn’t have an issue with it. It’s your stepson being there that changes the dynamic to me.
If congressman Mike Scotus III had no dick and said he lost it in combat to curry sympathy rather than a tragic burn injury from a George Foreman grill could we make fun of him by calling him hot dog?
you think dropping the hard R is the same as making a joke like “MC won’t stand for such lies”? If you do then we are worlds apart and probably should stop because we’ll never agree.
I think it’s bad to pile on to his disability but I also laugh at many of the jokes. Wish I didn’t but also I don’t really want to devote any time to feeling bad for this dork. I wouldn’t be laughing if it was a random person from a gif or something. can we talk about how he tries to fashion himself like a member of the hitler youth?
I say it's fair game due to the irony derived from the fact that strict adherence to his chosen ideology would mean his own extermination.
He gets basic human decency when he stops doing shit like talking about how awesome visiting the Wolf's Lair was imo
