too bad the Celtics are pretty good. Otherwise, he'd have nothing right now with Pats/Red Sox/Celtics
Very uncomfortable with shitty Vernon getting upset about Sharp railing on the Steelers OC (evidently a friend of Vernon). Right around the 10 minute mark of the pod. Bizarre
I ran across this meme for a different reason, but died at this because I remember thinking this was a fucking ridiculous take five. GB’s offense
Bill's Packers takes were incredible this week "Green Bay...? ehhhh I don't know, I just don't trust them. Not great analysis I know but"
that was interesting and it just kept going on. i think Sharp was baiting him a little bit. My favorite part was when Vernon threatened to out Sharp’s biases (what teams pay Sharp).
It's part of the bill charm. It's like a mental block for him. He sucks at pronouncing names. I think it's hilarious.
i don't actually see a problem of comparing nba players to your personal dogs. if you're comparing them to dogs in general then that's problematic
Jackie poorly articulated what is true...they have a system based upon a collective bargaining agreement which includes a draft. They don't get to go wherever they want and the infrastructure is built to keep every market engaged and relevant. The structure is part of why they make millions.
the dog thing is dumb but largely because simmons can only relate things to his personal life and he just got a dog the jackie thing about players being "owned" is really weird, mainly her reflex to argue YES YOU ARE PROPERTY
Morally you are correct, but as a fan of the team located in Mordor on the plains, I can't get on board. Elimination of the draft would end our viability as a franchise. Even the reactionary players would rather go sign elsewhere.
The Jackie thing is dumb on both sides of that conversation (if that's how that Kyrie conversation really went down).
think its been discussed in here but i always liked Jackie over the years with the limited content I'd read/watch. Her articles were always great. Since joining the Ringer I now kind of hate her.
Kind of funny how Jackie would repeatedly talk over and interrupt both of them the whole time. They sounded like they were getting pretty frustrated
i feel like anyone with a working brain realizes that macmullan was referring to the CONTRACT ("property" of the team, i guess) and not the actual person, who has team/employee obligations but very obviosuly is not property.
Simmons comparison to a puppy was in no way problematic and I think clearly articulated the point. Jackie just used really really really bad wording to her point across. Jackie is tough on pods though, I don’t think she is good at zoom, doesn’t get social cues etc.
Real Ones pod with Rip was pretty good. I really enjoy listening to Raja. Conversely, the more i listen to the show, the more I can do without Logan.
I only listened to the clip in this thread so perhaps the broader context makes my point moot, but she may have been raising that argument from the perspective of the billionaire owners. Players are mostly pawns would’ve been a better (demeaning) way to put it.
kyries point being related to the draft doesnt really square with this you aren't under contract then, but you must abide by teams drafting your ability to be signed into the league taking away your autonomy about where to play
Jackie talking about Eric Bledsoe was just as problematic as the property comment, the best part about Nephew Kyle being so incompetent is that he might leave the inevitable Jackie n-word in the pod long enough for us all to hear it
Jackie fucking sucks. I liked her on Around the Horn when I was 12 but listening to her for 45 minutes is torture.
I don't really understand how anyone could ever watch Jackie MacMullan and think this isn't exactly what it would be like to listen to her for 30+ minutes instead of 3 minutes.
It came on after the previous pod I was listening to ended. I had to fast forward when she made a comment about how she doesn't have one of those giant TVs. Just sounded so old and I thought why am I listening to someone who won't spend $500 to buy a flat screen TV.
Bro you can get a good sized TCL for like $200. The only excuse at this point is just being some weird ass luddite
