We've got 2 office chairs in all of our shooting houses. We learned quickly that you need to put carpet down, or else you don't get that whole "dead silent" thing.
So my wife asks me how we’ll be getting new dog that’s arriving soon to the beach with us (we have drive on beach access). “We’ll put her in a crate under the cap, secure the crate, open the cap windows and she’ll be just fine” “Absolutely not, she’s part of the family, she’ll ride up front” “In a crate or just roaming around the cab while I drive?” “Oh I’d prefer in a crate.” “Honey, we have two adults, two kids in carseats and a chocolate lab in the cab of a tiny ass Tacoma?? Trust me she’ll be fine in the back.” “Well we’ll have to buy you new, bigger truck by the summer.” “You know honey when you’re right you’re right, she is part of the family.” This is how you lose an argument properly gentlemen.
That was yesterday afternoon. No deer. My buddy blasted a decent 8 right there at the driveway on Monday. I'm in that ground blind right now staying out of the rain. Bout to call it a day. Ain't seen shit.
Was walking out Thursday and saw three doe trotting back toward the woods, whistled and they stopped, picked out the biggest one and took a standing shot from around 100 yards and........ missed. Getting antsy with an empty freezer
Apparently I am the worst hunter of the 3 of us brothers that hunt...... Little brother got this last night Other little brother got this literally an hr ago. Same one that shot the good buck with his bow earlier this year. Both of these were with a 350 legend.
You are not wrong. Unfortunately I'm out of tags this year. Plus they live basically on the farm and I'm an hour away. Logistics are not my friend these days.
There's one or two bucks the size of those shot around here now and then, (rack) but they're not the big bodied bruisers from the midwest. Makes me want to travel.
I'm about 95 percent sure I'm pulling the trigger on getting a Ruger American 350 legend. May cause me a divorce but fuck it. You only live once
She already gets pissed at you for hunting. And you will know exactly what weekend you get the kids, so every hunting trip can be planned without recourse.
Santa bring you guys anything fun? Got some Lone Wolf climbing sticks, a rope man ascender and tons of wool under layers.
No, but my hunting buddy called to brag he got a new range finder 1000 yards, a backpack for his compound bow that apparently can buckle to the tree, and a cellular trail cam, and a new knife. Fucking punk. Him, not you. I did find this half off on the clearance aisle at walmart a week or so ago, so I got that going for me which is nice https://www.walmart.com/ip/Muddy-Ou...t-Tree-Strap-Suspension-Relief-Strap/51106030
Just got back from the wife’s family’s land for the last few days. Saw probably 10 doe and a four point. Was waiting on an 8 point+ so didn’t shoot anything. Also saw a good bit of dove, a bunch of wood ducks, and this group of gobblers, were probably 12 of them:
Also asked for a bunch of camo for Christmas. I think my favorite were insulated pants. Got two pairs of pants, a heavy jacket, another jacket, a button up shirt, and long sleeve tshirt.
It’s all the mossy oak bottom land pattern. button up shirt is pursuit gear one pair of pants is browning wasatch insulated pants-non typical by drake heavy jacket is redhead 1856 other jacket is non typical by drake
Got it. Good stuff. I mixed it up because Nomad does a lot in bottomland and those pants looked like they had their logo on my phone.
BIL and FIL been raving about Danner hunting boots . I've been using the Muckboot Field Blazers but might eventually get something else.
They're a local company here so I think it's a requirement everyone have multiple pairs. Doesn't hurt I get a discount as well.
Got some gift cards for Christmas and just stumbled across a pair of those Muck boots in my size on Walmart.com for $72.97. Also, some Walmart stores are discounting their deer season stuff. Picked up some tink bombs, #69, scent-away, camo, etc for 50% or more for next year with remaining gift cards.
First season with my muck boots. I love them for my hunting style, not sure I’d pick them if I regularly had lengthy walks. Also posting from the blind during last week of deer season. Shitty season on our farm and the surround ones too.
Thanks man! Pretty fired up about it. I passed another buck right before that would probably been a higher scoring buck, but my buddy and I think he’s a year away from being something pretty special for our area. I had a doe and a button head in the field, and the buck I passed comes out of nowhere. As I’m watching him, I catch a glance of another deer coming into the field, and it’s the buck I shot. The doe and button head had been watching the area my buck came from for 4-5 minutes, but when the other 8 stepped out, my buck couldn’t wait any longer. Rut’s just now about to kick off for us, and I think he was probably coming out to run that other buck off. The buck I passed
Shot an old big-bodied 7 today chasing a doe. I thought he was a different buck we have on camera when I shot. He was running after a doe, quartering away. A couple of cool things. I hit him on the neck side of the shoulder, it exited through the neck close to the brain stem, and also put a hole through his ear. Also, he had previously been shot through his back leg. We’d never seen him before on any of our cameras. Ear: Leg: It’s not big enough to warrant a shoulder mount, but I was tempted to get one for the novelty of that ear.
Went out for an evening sit. Dude and his girl were stuck in mud up to their axles. I have some gear for getting unstuck. So I start shoveling and try to use max trax and a tow line to get this guy out. Nada. I decide to head home to grab my hi lift jack. 30 minutes each way. Get back and the guy is out with my gear gone. Took a little while to find him in town. Not too hard being that he’s the only F150 with a mud paint job. Get my shit back (he got out 10 minutes after I left) and head home. No sit but hopefully some positive karma for tomorrow mornings sit.
He said he left his number on a tree for me, I didn’t get the thief vibe he seemed real relieved to see me. Whatever I’d do it again. I’d fucking hate to be buried in the woods, I don’t even know who you would call in NJ to tow you out.
Did you notice anything off with his gait or was the back leg a total surprise when you found it? Just insane how tough/resilient wildlife is. Awesome story btw.
Total surprise. He was running pretty well. The picture doesn’t really do it justice. The bone there had grown about the size of a tennis ball.
https://921wlhr.com/franklin-county-pair-charged-with-multiple-counts-of-poaching-deer/ These guys went to my high school. As far as “huge pieces of shit” go, they’re in the upper echelon.
