I spoke with our resort in Jamaica about the upcoming travel restrictions and they said they were going to have testing on site in the lobby and if you did test positive they will comp you a quarantine room for 14 days. I think that will be common place going forward for most places.
The Bahamas require intermittent testing if you are there for a period of time. Green Turtle where we stayed did all the tests themselves. Was very efficient and seemed almost semi-normal.
Get covid, free extra two weeks of vacation #lifehack That hotel starts filling up with non revenue generating quarantine rooms and I bet their stance will change.
Yeah but they are dying right now. They've lost all European and Canadian travel for the foreseeable future and now the US travel is being threatened. If they lose the US, the resorts will be down to giving rooms to locals who can't pay nearly as much.
Is there a requirement that you quarantine for 14 days when you get back into the US regardless of whether you have a negative test?
i know in the Bay Area we are supposed to quarantine if we leave over 150 miles of the Bay Area, no one is enforcing it but that the guidelines here
Just booked a flight for Memorial Day. Looking forward to it. Any restaurant recs would be greatly appreciated.
I went through and did this tonight. I was bored on a flight and started it years ago in a Note but seems I deleted it at some point so I made a Google Sheet. Foreign was easy but I went through a list of all the airports in the U.S. after doing it from memory and picked up a few more I'd forgotten about. I was also reminded of some of the odd places that have commercial air service in the U.S.
Love the nerdiness in this thread. Why do you care to record a list of airports visited? I have a google sheet shared w/ gf containing our vacation options and plans / budgets, etc. but would never have thought to keep a log of airports.
Man - I had to go over all the cities (with the wife) we hit on our loop around the U.S. and put pushpins at each stop on a wall painting. I have zero room for judgement.
These things are interchangeable as far as I'm concerned. The airport/code is just a means to track places I've gone. I'm sure there are people who get off on number of airports flown through or something though.
I was gonna do the physical map thing to track countries I’ve been to, but got lazy and use the Been app instead. It tracks all the countries and states you’ve been to.
For me I just started it when I was bored on a flight once and have just continued to update it every time I fly. The only time I really look at it is when flying. The one thing I like about it though is that it’s an easy way to keep track of work trips that you may otherwise forget about as years go by.
We do breakfast/lunch wakeup at Cafe Genevieve a lot. Snake River Grill is really solid for a dinner - outdoor rooftop on the square. Bin22 is a more tapas oriented spot that is really good. Silver Dollar bar. Westbank Grill & Handle Bar (at the four seasons so it's a little of a drive from the square, not sure which area you're staying). Amangani is an awesome property if you want to get more rustic/outdoors. There are some of the most picturesque golf courses in the world out here - if you're wanting to do that - wife had pretty minimal interest into golf initially but has come to love getting on the course. I know most people out here by now - it's very much a small town feel so I'll assist with anything you need help with.
It's so easy to get around in the summer/spring and all the drives are awesome - you honestly can’t go wrong - just depends on if you want to be able to immediately walk around the square or not. Jackson has a lot going on in the summer in the city but Village is more immediately scenic. Sans snow - it only takes us about 15 mins to get from the square to the village. Do the 42 mile loop - in a convertible if possible depending on car rental situation.
So ready for Covid to be over so we can go back to normal business travel. I start a project next week with a firm in Mauritius. Normally this project would start with me on site for a week to do design workshops with them. Instead I’ll be waking up and conducting these workshops at 5:30 am over WebEx from my home office.
Getting vaccinated next week. Starting to look into some international travel plans. Anyone ever been to Exuma? Thoughts?
Pretty cool - are you bringing family? I prefer Andros but those trips are usually centered around bone fishing
delta just changed one of my japan flights for late april/early may think i'll just end up pushing it to the fall since odds japan will let in american travelers by then seems low, luckily there's some award options so HOPEFULLY can just change the tickets over that way since virgin atlantics award chart got hugely devalued 3rd reschedule on this trip kill me
Yea Persephone is solid and literally next door to Genevieve so we pretty much just go to that area and pick which line is shorter.
Planning a trip for wifes 30th birthday on Memorial Day weekend and looking for suggestions. Thinking we will probably wait on a trip to Europe/Asia, but anywhere in North/South America and Caribbean is on the table. We like the outdoors but are novice hikers, so that would need to be an ancillary activity and not something to plan the trip around. We traditionally prefer warm/tropical destinations (did Abaco's and Harbour Island last year, etc) but open to other ideas
so no this didn't work need virgin to extend its no change fees period, or i guess i'm trying to put together an ANA redemption or just setting a bunch of virgin atlantic points on fire
also never book with TAP clown show trying to get that refund, their customer service line has seemingly been down for months at this point
Myanmar going through a little coup. Military says it will be enforced for one year. Man that country has gone through some shit.
What is everyone’s thoughts on Virginia Beach? We are looking to take a group with Friends and kids on a vacation and this has gained momentum. Looking like 22 people. thanks for any information good or bad.
Sandbridge is a good family beach . If surfing in the cards .. Croatan I would re route to outer banks .
of the 5 families going 4 have been to outer banks and were looking for a different spot. Sandbridge is where we are looking.
Grew up in Va beach , when I went to the beach with the fam was always sandbridge . Also stayed there years ago for grandmothers 80th bday was enjoyable.
I may of asked last year I don’t remember and I couldn’t find it in search. when Covid hit we didn’t go and went to Traverse city Michigan instead.
