Went back & looked at pics from yesterday... I didn’t realize that I captured 2 separate species. I’m confident the 1st one is a yellow rumped warbler, but unsure of the 2nd

Either pine warbler or an orange crowned warbler

Thanks, definitely see so for the junco.

So this is a house sparrow?

I believe this would then be a house sparrow and a house finch?

    big ups to you Owsley

I don't know if y'all can tell from the couple of mediocre pics I took today, but we had snow in DFW today, and the feeder was the busiest it has ever been. Only in the mid 30s but the feeder was in high demand (black oil sunflower). Less so for suet and mostly none for the safflower in the ancillary feeders.

I want to say that today, within a few hours of bird watching, I saw every feeder species I've ever seen at this address. Plus a new visitor today (like I posted above) in the Wren, which is often nearby, but never on the feeder.

In addition to that, I saw the two new species ID'ed above - and I've still not spent my christmas present, $100 WBU gift card.

Not too familiar with Pine Warblers, but I'd say that doesn't look too much like an Orange-crowned Warbler. The wing bar coloring in your pic looks pretty distinct, also looks a deeper yellow color than an Orange-crowned.

Pine warbler for sure. They’re fairly frequent visitors to my suet feeders in the winter.

I can't tell if this is a Say's Phoebe, or a female Vermillion Flycatcher. I'm leaning Vermillion because that ruddy color should be higher up on the breast of the Say's I think.

edit: Actually scratch that, color placement seems to be the same.

I’m no expert on western birds, but I’m pretty confident this is a Say’s. The longer tail is the key identifier.

Kind of interesting, this house finch has a huge wound on its forehead, sadly quite out of focus.

This hawk has been posting up in different spots at my parents house over the last week. Over the last 2-3 years, chipmunks have built extensive burrow systems throughout the yard. Plenty of wooded areas around so good spot for the hawk.

Had a pine siskin at my feeder today. That’s a first for me and marked my 70th feeder/yard/neighborhood bird species observed in Atlanta. As I type this, a barred owl is going absolutely nuts in my backyard. Gotta love it.

Looks different than the others I’ve seen, as the body was longer & narrower, hence me thinking it was a goldfinch

And I took my camera outside for the waxwings visit again. similar number, mostly in bare trees - in between dives into the waxleaf ligustrum. It is funny you mention privet Owsley, because I think they are in the same shrub family or related in some way.

probably not sized correctly, but the detail is good. Note how much they have consumed of the clusters.

and also how they kinda look like they are 1980's sports cars.

Ok bird thread, I need your help.
My son is playing soccer in the spring and his team needs a name. The high school team is called the Owls and all of the junior teams are also named after birds of prey.
We can’t choose Owls, Vultures, Hawks, Falcons, Cardinals (?) Shrikes, or Kestrels (since those names are already taken).
Kites, Eagles, and Harriers are the leaders in the clubhouse.

Should be the Shrikes. The Loggerhead Shrike is a badass bird. Most people probably don't know what a Shrike is though.

Nikon D5200 with AF-P Nikkor 70-300mm lens, shot in aperture mode. Just a basic entry-level DSLR, that I've had for 4-5 years & mostly sat in a drawer. I've always wanted to learn/practice photography, but never felt compelled to take pics of random shit. Birdwatching has re-stoked my interest & the telephoto lens is very helpful when trying to identify. Ultimately, I'll probably want/need to upgrade my lens to something at least 400-500mm, but that shit is expensive.
