This version of the second unit with the Schroder Trez pick and roll is so much better than w/e the fuck type of offense the likes of Caruso + Rondo + Dwight was running last year. The lack of Javale and Dwight is gonna hurt more than people are going to admit w/ rebounds and rim protection, but I'll gladly watch a bench unit that is capable of erasing deficits and extending leads than dragging out 8 minute stretches with 6 total points from both teams just so Lebron and AD can get their rest.
I'm liking the Harrell signing better, its nice knowing you can get 15-20 a night off the bench from a guy that will consistently shoot 50-60% w/o worrying about if we're getting bad Kuz that goes 1-9 from 3 and scores 11 points on 20 shots.
Stu Lantz is 74 years old. Fuck me that makes me old since I’ve listened to him call games as the analyst since I can remember.
I remember that was before Twitter and getting texts on my flip phone (I think) to turn on Lakers if I wasn’t watching. Insane. Can’t believe he’s gone.
I was following the game on the statcast since I was living in ATL and the game was only on FSWest. Side note, one of my buddy's is in the crowd near the end. What an awesome game to witness in person.
Easy win vs the Bulls. 1st half was nearly perfect, but the 3rd Q was pretty bad. 30 point lead probably helped that.
Same here, was away from LA and had to follow the game on either the ESPN.com or Yahoo play-by-play, was going bonkers on AIM with my buddies as it updated every made basket
SportsCenter that night showed every point. That type of game takes a special set of circumstances where the rest of the team isn't shooting well and just gives it to Kobe and the other team is playing at similar level to keep it close. I knew he had some games where the game was a blowout and he was pulled and probably could have gotten close or beat the 81. I looked it up and do remember watching the Dec 20, 2005 game at home from school vs the Mavs where Kobe put up 62 on only 33 mins. If he played 42 mins like the 81 point game, he would have gotten close. His points per minute in that game would have gotten him to 79 if he played 42 mins.
The amazing part of that 81 point game to me was the 55 points in the second half. Usually when guys have big games it's all in the first half. This man went into a different stratosphere after already playing half a game. Insane
Good point. Looked it up and the 55 point half is also the second highest half behind Wilt's 100 game where he scored 59 in the second half. Wilt's game is insane, but Kobe's 81 is arguably better due to the competition.
Yeah I'd say Kobe's 81 is for sure more impressive. Wilts 100, if i remember the story correctly, they literally fouled the other team so they'd get the ball back to give to wilt and he'd have more time to score. And yeah the competition of course. And the context of the game...Kobe had to erase a 20 point deficit. Looking back at those mid 2000 teams, I still can't believe Kobe took a starting lineup of smush/Luke/Lamar/kwame to the playoffs. I dunno, that might be more impressive than 81 lol
He's really expanded his game in ways I didn't think he could in his early days. Took a few pages out of Kobe's book, in terms of second half of career prep.
This is the first time the Lakers have gotten any calls in forever, nice to see the good guys get a break for awhile
hope they don't wait until he's in the HOF to retire his jersey but the bottom line is they better retire that fucking number
I am sure they will figure stuff out eventually but it is a very strange roster. If it all goes up in flames it will be entertaining at least
Watching AD go down was terrifying, thankfully he was ok. Very easy stretch of games upcoming, can't fuck that up
